I've got the EU version of this phone. Screen is good, I was worried that full hd on this screen size would be noticeable but its not a problem. Netflix and the like can't get full HD due to the phone only being widevine L3, but it's not bothered me too much and YouTube is fullhd.

Camera is alright, I don't take a lot of photos so I'm not the expert in that department.

No NFC is a shame but fine with me for now.

It has a headphone jack which I love, they're dying out unfortunately.

The processor is good for most things. Everything is smooth with no lag, only when you try to play some high intensity games does the middle level chipset become really obvious.

Ram management can be a bit hit and miss in my experience, a few things close down earlier than I'd like.

Get much more regular updates than my last three Huawei/honor phones and if you consider the max 3 isnt one of Xiaomi's main handsets that's pretty good.

Overall, there isn't a lot available for this screen size at this price point.

Great phone, had one when they first came out and would have bought a Max 4 if it had ever arrived. Might even buy another one now at that price!

I bought another 6/128 Max 3 as Back-up - overall, with TCB, it came to approx £140. Bought the Max 2 in 2017 and upgraded to Max 3 in July of this year. Like you, was waiting to hear about the Max 4, but by all accounts, they're ending the Max Series with the Max 3. Cracking Device for the money. Have switched to Dark Mode on the Max 3 - very nice!

Yeah, I read the same thing. Damn annoying,it was a great series. They did state somewhere, can't remember where now, that they 'might' release some of the other series with a 7 inch screen, but not until sometime next year... So at least there a slight hope we'll see more big screen phones. . .

Yes, I think they may be looking at increasing the Screen Size of some of the Redmi Series. We'll just have to wait and see. When I first bought the Max 2, two-and-a-half years ago, I wasn't expecting very much. It cost around £140 and I figured that if it lasted for a year, then that was fine. Even though it doesn't have B20, it has never been an issue. But it's still going strong now! Just updated to MIUI V. 11 on Friday too.

I'd hang on as Xiaomi just said there's no Max this year so I'm hoping for one next year. Failing that they may bring a bigger screen under a new name.
I wouldn't buy 2 of such an old processor. I'm hoping for a big screen with a nice fast processor next year
Bargain price more stable than any other phone ive had price now bargain

I have had this phone for over a year now. Love the screen size and battery life. I don't use for games but still suffer from the odd lag every now and then. Running the latest official firmware, with an upgrade to miui 11 imminent any day now too.

Hi, I'm looking for my first smart phone (not a Luddite, just stuck with my old reliable phone for basic calls n texts,,,,, and had laptops for everything else.....)
Anyway, I have seen quite a few 'HOT' deals recently e.g.
hotukdeals.com/dea…178
hotukdeals.com/dea…293
but wondering
1) which you would recommend?
Yes I would like a nice big screen, and good camera and reliable etc.....I will NOT be playing any games on it.
Don't want to spend a fortune - but willing to pay say £250 - if phone is worth it compared to £125 - iyswim

2) Also, you warn about possibly having to pay Custom Charges - how much could that add to the cost.... and how likely is it I will be charged?

3) Also, any advice re which network/deal re calls and data?
Best to pay monthly?
Get a yearly package?
Giff Gaff any good?

Many thanks for any advice from anyone - I know when I am out of my depth.....but willing to learn.

Hiya, no problem.

Point 1, I'd say a nice cheap xiaomi, maybe the Mi 9t you linked to would be the best if everything for you, has a great processor in it, with a nice big beautiful Amoled screen, a good strong camera, and on most sites is under £250, if you csn get the pro variant for around that price (£266 on gearbest at last check) I'd get that.

Point 2, I've only ever had extra charges ordering from aliexpress the 4 times I've done it, the most I got was £14, which includes royal mail charge, the other sites, Wowcamera, gearbest, eglobal, Wonda Mobile etc. Usually either send from within the EU, or send to the EU in bulk to then be relabeled and sent to the UK.

Point 3, depending where you live and what kind of coverage you get, just choose the best one for you, three generally have the best sim only packages on the market, but understand they aren't the best for coverage, maybe check Uswitch to compare all the best available sim only deals, and you csn filter by network/data/calls etc.

Hope this helps

I'd rather have a big screen (eyesight) and a huge battery over a fantastic camera, so I've had the mi max 1 and now the mi max 3. But if you value a fantastic camera ahead of screen and battery I'd go for the redmi note 7 ( battery's actually pretty good). We have both and they've been very reliable.

For network, if you have a BT phone line look at BT mobile, BT customers get a £5/month discount on their mobile contact. Also worth going through Quidco as you get decent cash back as well. BT use the EE network and it's very quick. If the BT/EE signal isn't good then Gift Gaff are a good option too (O2 network).

Customs charge likely to be around £11 or £13.
Thanks to Mr Switch and Infiltrator for all the advice and tips.
Yes I also need to think about coverage/network.
I am currently with Virgin - and reception is dire. Even visitors to my house (whatever their network) have trouble getting a signal - I feel I must be living in a signal 'Blackspot' - so need to research which networks can actually penetrate the force-field in this area.
Take xiaomi note 8 for ~86 after topcashback looks best for you ,not that Motorola..aliexpress deal...check hukd

I think it's a case of changing your region to HK or something to get it working, unsure if it's standard on these now.
