Excuse the ignorance, is there downsides to having it flashed with global ROM as compared to a global edition?

Yes this phone has CDMA bands which are only used in China and USA . Depending on the hardware in the Global model hardware configuration , it's stock ROM may not match the hardware correctly in this model. But if same hardware is inside both models , ( only the difference being software) , it may work perfectly. So bit of a gamble. Same like using modded ROM , and some functions do not work in some ROMs .

Also does not support OTA updates as per OP . Most good quality phones now come with Over the air updates.

Would avoid just for this in the desc - unlocked bootloader. If I am not mistaken, when the next OTA update occur I am sure the OTA update will check and realise the phone is a Chinese model and not update itself or potentially brick itself if it attempts to lock the bootloader during the update process, as the phone is Chinese and firmware global. It's one or the other scenario. Bootloader always get locked during the update process. There's plenty on Xiaomi over at XDA's and Reddit.

I think the main difference according to some is that some payment apps like google pay won't work because they require a locked bootloader but other than that nothing unless you intend to flash a custom rom on it yourself in which case you will need to contact the seller as he explains in the above info probably because he holds the unlocking permission from Xiaomi

So basically you don't know but feel you need to comment just to confuse people?

Do you like buying confusing products ? I like buying Hereford Apple Cider not undeclared mixture from many countries. It is not a crime to give your opinion in Hereford when asked , only not allowed in China or other dictator ruled countries.

It is not a question of the bands , it is the question of Global ROM working correctly with the set .

mi.com/global/mix2s/specs

Probably Xiaomi has same same hardware in the Global model so ok to use the Global ROM .

Then why did you state in your comment it has "CDMA bands which are only used in China and USA"
I bought this phone when it came out, I have to say it is a great phone nearly all screen just a bit of a chin up due to the camera being there but atleast theirs no notch or hole punch but if you like being a narcasist you might want a different phone as you have to turn the phone upside down to use the front camera. You can also get rid of the buttons and use swipe gestures which is brilliant.

As long as you leave the bootloader unlocked and it has official global rom you will get OTA updates according to this person on XDADEVELOPERS forum thread in the last comment he says he has had 4 OTA updates and no problems.forum.xda-developers.com/xia…658

Can you tell any network in UK using CDMA ? Most UK phones don't come with CDMA while their Chinese and USA versions do . But I agree with you the hardware seems to be same as the specs of the Global Model on Mi.com seem to be same .

Thanks for clearing that up then guys, expect everyone's clear now on whether it's ok to buy or not.

CDMA and GSM are 2G technologies that I have not seen on coming up on my phone for years now. As others said, there is a difference between the phone supporting CDMA bands and using them. It's like you go to a corner shop in northern Ireland. They'll take your euros but it doesn't mean you have to pay with euros.
Replacing Chinese ROM with Global will stop OTA updates, indeed. Thing not mentioned here is lack of authorisation for NFC payments.
This can probably be patched with Magisk, but it requires extra effort, it's not a native support and sometimes it just doesn't work no matter what.
