"Chinese Version(Global ROM)". Be very careful here, I cannot emphasize that enough.

This ships bootloader unlocked with the Global ROM. That means if you lock the bootloader you'll end up with a £338 paper-weight. If for any reason you need to lock the bootloader - make sure it's on the Chinese ROM meant for this device variant. It's a well-known problem and meant to deter you from importing the Chinese variant for slightly cheaper, in this case considerably cheaper.

If you're curious as to how serious that situation is; if you're lucky you might just have 30 days of a paper-weight and get back on to the phone once your bootloader unlock authorization goes through with Xiaomi. Otherwise, you'd possibly need to remove the back shell of the phone using a heat gun and short out the test-point pins on the PCB. Then pay someone to authorize an unofficial remote bootloader unlock which is sketchy AF.

What is the finger print sensor like on your 9t, and do banking apps work with it?

I mean, you'll probably be fine . It's just I see it all the time on XDA Forums. "I locked my bootloader and now my phone is bricked". The other day I even saw one with "my wife is gonna kill me when she finds out, plz help!".

If you have any questions feel free to send them my way by either quote or PM. I'm happy to screenshot any areas of the OS or take snaps of the device if needed. Mine isn't this particular model; it's the Pro blue one in 128GB. Unlocked + rooted it on MIUI10/Pie for now - not made the jump to MIUI11/Q yet but it's available on the updater.

Csn you use the FPS with banking apps, and what is the FPS like in general? I had the s10 5g recently, and whilst quick, was very hit and miss

Not used the Fingerprint login with banking apps but on My BT and basically anything that lets you use a Fingerprint login it works as expected; thumb down on symbol that pops up, it goes through. It's not as fast as a dedicated fingerprint reader on the back but it works well enough. If the screen is off and you pick it up - the fingerprint symbol appears so you don't need to press the power-button or anything.

Will do, funny thing is, I had an mi 9t pro for about 2 days, just didn't text the FPS, which is weirdly and usually one of the first things I do. I'm weird.

@schmoog Why did you root if you don't mind me asking? I've got a Poco F1, my main reason for rooting was always Adaway then Vanced. With Android 9 supporting private dns, am in 2 minds about rooting. Haven't tried Vanced and MicroG and I keep reading issues with this method, so unsure what to do.

Mainly for ad-blocking really. I wasn't aware of DNS methods and just went for Energized (Magisk ad-blocker module that edits the hosts file to block ads - requires a terminal and BusyBox module).

I'm also used to having root access and generally end up needing it at some point. Outside those two reasons I'd say ViperFX, Battery Charge Limit and a module called "Bluetooth stack audio bitrate changer for SBC" - because the default bit-rate on my BT earphones is awful.

Unfortunately, with exception to Energized, all the modules/apps I mentioned including YouTube Vanced aren't well-maintained right now. I've yet to look and see if anyone has picked up ViperFX's sources to actively maintain them for Q. Vanced does the job but the current release is pretty old and filled with feed ads (but you don't get ads on videos, so I'm OK with it for now).

Whilst not the same thing as root access I do prefer my bootloader being unlocked due to the amount of posts I see on XDA regarding region bricks. I.e. People who have flashed firmware for a different region - but because the bootloader is locked they're stuck in a situation they can't get out of.

Is Energized better than Adaway? Am guessing Battery Charge Limit does exactly what the name says, limits the charging based on % to extend the battery life or something similar?

Do you use any alternative to Vanced? I also have Newpipe installed but it's not really my go to.

Same, also came across NewPipe. Good for saving clips offline so I can forward them to people but that's about all I use it for. I find it crashes often.

I'm gonna look on XDA and see if there's anything newer than Vanced later. Sometimes you get the odd dev "debloating" the official YouTube apk, stripping out the ads and telemetry. If I see anything I'll send it through.

I've attached a screenshot of Energized. It's pretty similar to AdAway but swaps a user-friendly GUI for a terminal interface. You choose how much ad-blocking you want 1 through 6 with each pack (or "list") being more comprehensive than the last. I tend to go for lighter lists to avoid running into blocked pages.

And battery charge limit does what it says on the tin. Stops charging at a certain percentage without you needing to unplug the charger. I went for 80% on my old Redmi 5 Plus and it works great. Unfortunately it's not working on my Mi9T Pro (it just keeps charging past 80%). Check reviews, it might give you an idea if it works on the Pocophone or not.

An alternative to this is not to root and to use Blokada, NewPipe and F-Droid. Blokada is an extensive ad blocking app and F-Droid is an alternative open source app store which has Blokada available on it and NewPipe which is YouTube without ads and plays in the background.

F-Droid - open source app store
Blokada - available on F-Droid or from its own website - extensive DNS configurations and Ad Blocking presets
NewPipe - Lightweight YouTube frontend that's supposed to be used without the proprietary YouTube-API or any of Google's (proprietary) play-services. NewPipe only parses the YouTube website in order to gain the information it needs.

No rooting is required, works on any Android phone and also means if you use NFC / Fingerprint then Android Pay and banking apps still work etc.
