After a few days I noticed my laptop was getting slower, then weird, random keystroke losses, loss of cursor, odd digits not responding. Yup, keystroke logger had been added. Has anyone else had this kind of thing? Never any bother before, so no coincidence, I reckon. Unless you can tell me otherwise?

ha-ha...but seriously, is this a joke? made me laught
Ali Express . So no direct relationship between your CC company and the seller so S75 protection not applicable .

So I guess ,use Paypal and rely on their protection - but is it worth the saving not to have a warranty , pay import duties and cross your fingers and hope your purchase arrives and works

I ordered 3 phones one after another from Aliexpress. Only the third one showed up...first 2 went missing from heathrow onwards on tracking. Got refunded for the 2 lost phones from Aliexpress, it took time but u dont need to do much to get it refunded, very smooth process.

I got a Nubia M2 for £109 but it's now up to £121 at geekbuying.

Also stuck on Android 6.0.

And made by ZTE who have ceased main operations due to a U.S. ban on them buying American components so prospect of getting an update to 7.0 or 8.0 may not be good.

Decent phone though, same specs as this one except bigger battery and OLED screen.

EDIT: looks like the 64GB version of the Mi A1 is available from £142.

Could well be. Maybe I've just been lucky up till now!
How does this compare to a moto g5? I hear there are lots of issues with audio and camera on the Android update to Oreo with the Mi A1?

Moto G5 is only 16GB I think.

And has older chipset, Snapdragon 430 (which is actually a downgrade on the G4 which has a 617 chipset), this is Snapdragon 625.

EDIT: Did you mean the G5 Plus? That has the same Snapdragon 625 chipset as the Mi A1.

No, Regular G5, available to buy new with next day delivery for the same price as the apparently buggy mi A1 . Very tempted by the Xiaomi but apparently it is facing lots of issues with Oreo update. Been on Windows phone for 4 years and keen to get back on Android as my phone is dying on me!

430 chipset on that one is ancient.

My old phone which I got 3 years ago and stopped using a couple of months back has a 615 chipset!

I would imagine the G5 is pretty slow.

EDIT: Sorry I'm wrong it isn't an old chipset just more of a budget one, may not be too bad then, certainly better than the 615 but not as quick as the 625 set in the Mi A1 though.

I actually had 3 Windows Phones, one of the few who liked it, hope live windows or similar will come back on Android or another phone OS in the future.
How does this compare to the Samsung S9? Specs seem pretty similar? I'm looking to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S3.

I got charged 25 quid for an emergency appointment and all he did was prescribe me antibiotics. 3 minutes I was in the room.
I bought the 64gb version for £135 a couple of months back.

Happy with the phone and no problems so far. The only issue I have is the way it uses SD card memory - but that's an Android issue, not Xiaomi.

If it's any help my Mi A1 has zero issues with Oreo.

Sorry to say but the specs are nowhere near the Samsung s9. This is mid range phone from Xiaomi. If your looking for higher end phones then Xiaomi Mi mix 2s is there latest flagship. I've just bought the Sharp Aquos S2 for around £140 and it has much better specs than this. Bezel-less design, NFC and a Snapdragon 630 processor.

This is a massive upgrade from the S3 but won't hit the specs of the s9. The biggest loss that you would likely see is optical image stabilisation which the A1 doesn't have. The camera is still good but the s9 is in a different league in camera quality and price point. The processor (CPU) is the next biggest difference but moving from an S3 you're unlikely to be pushing the s9 to a point that would warrant the extra expense over the Xiaomi.
What about taxes to UK??? Is there any chance for me to pay more when it arrives? If yes, how much?

Interesting just did a quick Google and came up with one international seller on eBay. An American seller saying international so no warranty . Is it a new phone cause I can't see a place to buy off a UK reputable dealer.

Unfortunately there's no reputable UK seller for this phone but it can be bought from a reputable chinese seller. Click on the link. I posted this deal a while back and lots of people including me have bought it, but you just have to do a quick firmware update once it's received.

Bought one for a relative recently i think it was about £145 or so from eglobal central. had no issues the phone arrived after about 3 weeks. impressed with it although I'm not using, just set it up for the person intended and think its really well made etc.

*I thought i bought from aliexpress.

May I ask how are you finding it? Flashing etc affected performance in my previous experiences.

And does the NFC work with Google Pay in the UK?

I too can attest that my MI A1 64gb is working very well with Oreo... The whole point of the Android One standard is that Google themselves supply a pure clean operating system and take care of the regular software updates to keep it all running smoothly & securely. Got mine from EGlobal for £150 (supposed UK warehouse, think it came from France) ... Arrived in a week with original manufacturers cellophane & a UK plug... Oddly enough the thread that alerted me to EGlobal Central was full of warnings of how dodgey they were & how everyone should buy from Ali Express.

I paid £12 import duty which I think is pretty much standard. A relative was contacted by their aliexpress seller about taking a DHL delivery service. For £6 extra they were guarenteed "no tax" and it worked and was delivered inside a week.

I completely agree and understand this, but my experience has been good. I've bought 8 Xiaomi phones from the big sellers on AliExpress. All are excellent. 2 got hit with import duty, around £20. One had a fake ROM so I had to flash the official global ROM which was easy. The oldest one is now 3 years old and still great. Overall I have no hesitation buying them, but I do consider the risk before buying. It is worth taking out mobile phone insurance, for example with the nationwide bank account, if the phone doesn't work they will pay out (my wife dropped her Xiaomi redmi 3 and cracked the screen, insurance paid £100).
