32GB, no thanks the OS is approx 11GB....20GB out of box.

Lol, hadn't stopped apple for years for only approximately triple what this cost. Add to that moto g series with 16gb regularly getting heat on here, seems pretty good deal to me
You can get the 64gb version for around a tenner more

Best getting the 64GB for £160
better value for money, with a view to keep for 12 to 24 months.
Have I understood it right that you can only use two SIM cards if you don't use a memory card?

Ideal for Work and Pleasure.

Perfect actually for say a professional, ie Consultant Anaesthetist on call.

Would this incur a customs charge?
how long do phones take to arrive from them? my dougee x3 is on its last legs
The $£ conversion on this is all wrong
Something the blurb doesnt mention, this phone runs vanilla Android, and not MIUI, so will get Google updates about as quickly as Google pushes them out for the Pixel.
It is also supposed to have the best camera set up Xiaomi have placed in a phone so far, and standby time of 99 hours.

After dropping my Xiaomi phone in the bath last week, I toyed with getting this model, but went for a Note 4 in the end; mainly because it has a microSD slot, and the A1 doesnt.
I thought the A1 does have a microSD slot?

It does. Mines currently got a 32gb card in it. It has two slots with one of them accepting either a second SIM or an SD card.

Both have SD card expansion but only if you use one of the 2 sim slots. There isn't a 'dedicated' SD slot in either phone. And plenty of youtube vids showing the upcoming RN5 PRO having a better dual camera set up than the A1 (plus a 20mp selfie with flash that can do bokeh effect). But obviously not stock Android.

33379395-3sVcO.jpgThat's what I was thinking too, $189 is £137 converted at the commercial rate, not £123.
Great phone had no issues, mine got updated to the February security patch yesterday.

GG, was the note 4 the 4gb 64gb model? am looking for one but can't see no deals at the moment.
If only this phone had NFC, I would have bought it on release.

Decent phone (I have the 64gb version). But have to say the camera is poor. In low light/indoors images aren't particular sharp and I was rather disappointed. But perhaps this was because I was coming from the Sony Xperia range.

Was just about to buy this for the wife until I saw your comment. Surely NFC should be as standard as WiFi and Bluetooth in 2017/18!?
decent looking phone and spec anyone know if this comes as 5" or 5".2, i prefer a smaller phone but with decent specs?

No, I ordered the 3/32GB; I cannot see the justification for the much higher price for the 4/64 model, my old 3GB never has less than 1.3GB of Ram free, and the microSD card slot offers such a huge amount of storage, and so many apps allow you to use it for programs, that I have never run out of storage for programs or data.

AliExpress had a few offers running for long time members last week, so it came in just under £100 from my preferred supplier.

This might be a firmware issue, Xiaomi sell two versions of this phone under totally different names; the other runs MIUI and gets rave reviews for its camera.

I had a firmware issue with the camera on my old Note 3G a few years back; under MIUI 5 the camera was good, MIUI 6 and it went fuzzy using the MIUI app, but fine using a 3rd party speed shot app; then MIUI 7 fixed the internal app issue and the camera focused properly again.

My last purchase from Aliexpress for £25 incurred a £15 charge. A £30 purchase from Gearbest was an extra £18, although that was using a faster method of shipping via DHL. Luck of the draw really, never had problems on purchases under £15 especially if its the slow China Post service.

My bad, I got it mixed up with a different model; I looked at several while deciding what to replace my drowned Note 3 with.

Although a couple of days after ordering, I found a hack* that managed to bring the Note3 back to life, so my daughter will be getting an unexpected upgrade when the new phone arrives.

*Literally a hack; you have to hack a couple of diodes off of the usb charging board and/or motherboard.

Have to agree with the previous post. The camera is good but not a patch on my Xperia Z3 compact. It lacks optical stabilisation and low light capability. That's not to say I'm not satisfied with the camera or the switch. The phone is amazing for the price. Just don't expect pictures to match flagship Samsung's, Sony's or iPhone.

DHL are con artists, they regularly billed me for non existent import duty; but would'nt give me any receipts or justifications for the charges. In the past few years, I have paid them ONE genuine customs fee, and refused to pay hundreds in bogus customs fees.

It does seem the message is getting through, I havent had a single demand from them so far this year.

It's a phone designed for 2nd world markets where even credit cards aren't always accepted, let alone convoluted proprietary electronic wallet systems.

It no more needs an NFC chip in it than a phone meant only for use in the UK needs an integrated earthquake sensor.

Drug dealers don't tend to need memory cards. They're too busy bringing in the cash to worry about storage space.

Thanks for this, I'll investigate a little. But I suspect it's the lack of OIS that's the problem. Still it does the job and for £150 I'm happy. I needed a dual sim with a large internal memory and this fit the bill.
Now 199 USD
Looks like a good phone with specs.... on the thing is Battery - 3000mAh, which may drain out very fast

That's my main sadness with it (together with reversed buttons), but unfortunately NFC is not useful in Xiaomi markets. I hope they start targeting Europe at some point...
