Great price for a cracking budget phone, may be a chance of customs, and no warranty really, pay by credit card.

Fab value device, still one of the best family of mid-rangers to be sold, a year later

If you do pay by CC, try and nudge the amount over the £100 sterling mark, by buying a usb cable or something small you might want, this way, as long as they are on the same checkout order with AE, you will be covered 100% by section 75 for your CC money all back

How intrusive are the adverts on these phones? i had heard that xiaomi push them through on all of the apps on the phone even settings in order to subsidise the price of the phones.

My wife has one and reports no ads she's seen as yet. That's the 4/64 global version.

They are zero intrusive, the OS on this has no way to display any, its purest android in lite form! The advertgate news, is old, it was a select few devices, that were HK / China based peices of hardware, flogged with the Mobads bit hard coded into their own apps, if anyone has any issues, just simply, as in yes it is simple, flash the global version of whatever version of the OS that is the latest one, in full, from the phone manufatiuer in question

Had this phone since December, paid about £115 from amazon, great bit of kit.
IMO this phone will go down in history, along with the Redmi Note 4, as a classic Xiaomi budget phone that laid down the gauntlet to all other manufacturers to seriously up their game. Great price. Heat added.

Or, as it will be when apple announce their Q2 sales losses, over Q1 this year, another nail in the coffin for them and lesson in how not to rip buyers off for the same thing!

To be fair they've got away with it for years, incredibly.

We went abroad for a long weekend with the usual crowd of 7 couples a few months ago and my wife and me were the only ones not sporting iPhones! My wife's 2 year old Redmi Note 4 (she simply refuses to replace it as it's still working perfectly!) needed charging once during the break whereas our friend's iPhones were charged daily (in some cases more than daily). They literally couldn't believe it when i told them her phone cost 133 quid 2 years ago. The tide is most definitely turning...

Fab stuff BB, its little real life stories like these, that are making more and more sense to apple owners ( I am not knocking the devices we have all the latest and some really old devices, for business use ) everyday, it is scary to think that they still think its the days of the first transucent iMac days, where the real hard core apple users, would pay 4 times more than the same thing in PC format, even the new $999.99 "stand" launched last week, is getting some much stick over its silly price.. BUT some will still buy it, instead of using a cardboard one, that can do the same thing!!

Great to hear that your wife's RN4 is still going strong and is working perfectly, really no reason why it should not! I love all the Mi A ranges of devices, that is why this deal price is hitting the sweet spot, with so many previous model owners of Mi mid rangers for 2019 onwards
All I want in a phone, fab battery, nice feel, good display...why pay more?

Non existent as mentioned earlier. Running two Mi A2 Lites in this house, not an ad to be seen on either, updated regularly, all hail the AndroidOne
I've been using my mia2 since last September. One thing that I wish they would sort out is android auto comparability.

All true, but, but, but... I love the form factor of my iPhone 5SE! I can fish it out of my pocket, unlock via fingerprint, navigate with my thumb, all with one hand. The sharp edges prevent it from slipping, the machined aluminium feels great. The screen is the right size for my purposes. If there was an Android version of the SE, I would buy it... is there one?
Maybe going against the grain here but I bought this phone a while back and now it's sluggish and slow as anything. Freezes also. Battery has turned to crap too.

I like the SE's always did love the iP5 think it was the last good one they made!

Closest would be the S10e, but that is 3 times the price!!

Yes, all the over writing and / or ota's and / or junk is slowing it down, once its clean and lean again, stick AccuBattery on it for pulse charging routines and alerts and it will be fine, incremental updates always "seem" slower for some reason, its like all the c.rappy windows 10 updates every other week or so, just stuff the latest windows 10 insider on a PC/Laptop and it runs super smooooooooth!
What's the camera like on these?

I was wondering between this and the G4 Power, out off the Moto by it being slightly longer, too long, and lack of compass. I'd thought these two might be comparable, ignoring battery life, but at this price is this just a more budget phone, or just much better value?

I wouldn't want to sacrifice too much with the camera...

dont think the camera is amazing but i believe you can sideload the app they use for the google pixels which helps. Someone will no doubt correct me if i am wrong

uh oh, I've always used a nexus/pixel pure android :O but I heard it's kind of close enough. I will be using the Redmi note 5 until the Pixel 4 comes out, hopefully it comes out sooner

You'll be fine with it, it's still android at the end of the day
Ace phone. Moved on to a Pixel 3 from this (4GB, 64GN model) and I miss this for the great battery life and LED notification.

I believe you're perhaps purely thinking about Amazon Fire HD Tablet's instead, or something?.

Whatever it is you're missing 2 separate beast's together ...

Amazon Fire Tablet's have the (arguably) intrusive adverts to subsidise their Tablet product range, but Xiaomi does not.

I'm not sure if you're directly suggesting that, in account of this Xiaomi phone having stock Android on it, that that therefore means that it's therefore adverts free or something?, lol.

All I know is, the Xiaomi phone that I'm rocking has MUI on it instead, and there's blatantly no adverts pertaining to it there in any way.

So it's more-or-less to do with the phone itself, and not necessarily purely down to it's engine alone.

Don't get me wrong, I luvvvvvvvvv my Android, hehehehe, though I'm yet to try Android One though?.

But either way, I'm currently preferring MUI still ... :-)

I think you need to check what Android One is. It is stock Android with monthly updates for a minimum of 2 years. The only adverts are those that are in apps, there are none in the phone.

Hehehehehehe, yep, I get confused.com about them 'stuffs' too like?.

Xiaomi rocking MUI one minute, then Android One the next?.

Huawei rocking Android one minute, then EMUI the next?.

And ...

What next?, Fire OS on a Google PIXEL phone instead perhaps?, looooooool. ;-)

I don't know. :-D

As I've also indirectly reiterated also.

Eg. those Xiaomi phone's don't have any adverts contained within them (irrespective of whether it's rocking MUI, or rocking Android altogether ... )

As for App with In-App purchases, well, none of us can account for such thing's though, can we?.

Afterall, Apple's App Store is riddled with such thing's too right? (and that's iOS). :-D

Has nowt all to do with the Actual OS itself etc?.

Unlike that of Amazon Fire OS ofcourse? (which as we all know, is a whole different beast entirely?). :-)

Edit:
MUI has regular updates too.
