This phone looks like a very good deal but if it's not I'm sure someone will put me right.
I am tempted to order but not quite sure if the camera would be as good as my Windows 8.1 Nokia Lumia 920?
If I am not mistaken being the Note5 this is their latest model so appreciate no one in this country will have one yet. So can only go on the spec and Xiaomi reputation as to how decent it will be.

Why cold?

I don't see 16GB storage being a problem as is expandable using SD card up to 128GB
It has the added advantage of being Dual sim + SD (at the same time).

There are supposed to be three versions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A.
Also, this is not related to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5.
Of the 5A series,
This is the cheapest one and skips on the fingerprint sensor besides other things.
I noticed it doesnt have B20 support if its important to you.

Oh, I thought "Global Edition" meant that it did have B20 support...

If it's "Global Version" Note 5A, then it has B20. So either the seller put the wrong title or the wrong band information.

See Global Version listings from other sellers which show B20:
aliexpress.com/ite…tml
aliexpress.com/ite…tml
honorbuy.com/122…tml
banggood.com/Xia…tml

Singapore is one of the market regions of the B20 Global Versions of Redmi 4A, 4X and Note 4. The official Singapore Mi site shows their Note 5A has B20 too: mi.com/sg/…cs/

The photos show the red "Global Version" sticker on the corner for the box which would be on the other B20 Redmi phones.

That's one of the reasons manufacturers started leaving out the SD slot. Unreliable. Saw it myself in the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5.

Since Marshmallow you can use expandable storage as Internal storage, therefore a 16gb internal could be expanded up to the size of supported micro SD + 16gb. Adoptable Storage is different to just having expanded storage. Many use it without issue, myself included.

I know this, but this can also bring its own problems. This is possibly why some manufacturers disable it in their roms. That said, what I stated is still true. The info can be found online. In my own experience, it was with the camera. I had problems with storing photos after taking them on both the S4 and S5. Remove the SD card, problem solved. Replace SD card, problem is back. On the galaxy S6 there's no problem. The difference between the S4/S5 and the S6?

Any good to a teen who wants a new mobile with marshmallow but would ideally want a Samsung but my budget is not that big for a newer one .. Not got a clue where to start lol

Not on my M4 aqua, that was one of the problems it's 8gb storage was very problematic and Sony promised marshmallow update but they went back on their word simply because it doesn't sell phones. Tried the M5 but mediatech processors are not for me. In the end I've abandoned my M4 aqua except for when I go walking as I can fit all everyday apps on it now. I know if your knowledgeable you can get it to do expandable storage but even then you'd need a 16gb micro SD as that's best for compatibility and put 8 into internal leaving you with 8gb not enough for all my os maps of UK comes to 20gb. Love my redmi though now.

This is a Redmi 4A (the lowest model Xiaomi make) with a bigger screen, so bear that in mind. The Note 4 Global 3GB/32GB has been under £100 recently and is significantly better in every way, we're talking well over double the performance, better battery, better camera, better screen better everything.

The M4 does have Marshmallow though. The phone is still a nightmare though due to the 8gb storage. I'm about to do the unified storage workaround for someone at the weekend, Sony left it out of their marshmallow but you can do it via adb. It's a shame as it's a good phone other than that, if it came with 16gb as stock not 8gb I'd have got one.

I might still trade my m4s into cex and get an xz but that came with marshmallow and is problematic with the walking app I use mmtracker. Now my daliy driver is the redmi note 4 I see little point in updating my walking phones. There's mileage in the old adage if it's not broke why try to fix it

Hi, if your teen has butter fingers or can answer the question how much pocket money will you give up or how much as a parent would you yell if your teen loses it immediately [some kind soul handed it in at local police station and had to deal with contrite parent, happy days]

Here are some thoughts in view of butter fingers.
1. Local UK accessible repairs. Does Home accidental insurance cover this?
2. Big fat protective wallet case.
3. Security updates & consistency in updating.
4. Latest OS commitment ie Android L when available and Android Nougat currently. They are newer than Android Marshmallow.
5. Price
6. Bog standard clean no surprises Android.

I recommend unlocked Nokia 3 at 95 to 99quid from Carphone Warehouse using their PAYG Upgrade scheme.

One friend has taken advice and is happy with purchase adding a 128gb microsd card. Reviews will put you off.

Again... Global version without B20 support.

May be they define global by excluding the whole EU and Russia...

I've been watching out for a note 4 global deal around £100, but haven't seen any , where can I find one? AliExpress is selling them for £125 it seems.
