Compared to the mi 9, these seem to have held their price quite well.

Can't argue with 150 for a very decent handset, shame it's not yellow though

I'm sure you could switchy, but you won't
What's the camera like on these? Currently running a Mi A2 Lite which is brilliant apart from the mediocre camera.

Definitely better than the A2 lite buddy.
Slightly off topic but does anyone know which Xiaomi model is closest to the iPhone 8/X but obviously at a fraction of the price?

Googling suggests it would be the Mi 8. Does that sound right ? Or does anyone have any other suggestions ?

I have the mi 8 and it's definitely an iPhone clone but only in looks. The os is totally different. Like a os for adults or techies unlike ios for children and numpties lol

Thanks David. That's what I thought. Presumably we are talking about the non-Lite version ?

Just wondering how easy it would be to convert an iPhone loving daughter ( looking to spend £400+ on a refurbished/second hand iPhone 8 ) to a brand new Mi 8.

Does the Mi 8 use Android One or the Xiaomi OS ?

anything good less than 6 inch screeen ??
Switchy would you get this or the Mi 9 Lite mate? I'm bamboozled with all the models. I've got about £200 to spend. I think the 9 Lite has a better screen. Got about £200 to spend. Cheers.

I've done some mind-reading. Switchy thinks it's best to to go for mi 9t from the likes of eglobalcentral which is just over 200. And between note 7 and mi 9 lite he thinks it's best to go with note 7 rather than lite 9 .

She'll have to say goodbye to her WhatsApp data if she switches (good luck with selling that idea )

No to the Note 8. It's running a Mediatek processor - which is a bad choice from the get go, but also means you can't install/use Google Camera.

Actually there IS a way to do it, it's just long-winded and annoying. I think the program I used had some stupid name like WazzuupMigrator

Note 8 is powered by Snapdragon 665. Note 8 pro is powered by mediatek.

Aye, as @litwoojczyznomoj rightly (and slightly worryingly) predicted, I'd go for the mi 9t out of any of those, spend the extra £20 - £30 and you won't regret it

Really ? Is WhatsApp data not platform independent ?

Technically possible, yes. But that process is massively long winded (I gave up). Also, it costs £££, right?

There is no simple way to move the WhatsApp data from an iPhone. I've no idea why WhatsApp do not offer this option

Nope. Though it is technically possible to move the data, it's not easy (and I believe, not free)

What kind of import duty could be applied to this? (Is 25% here in Sweden...)

First, make a backup on iTunes (free), import into WazzuupMigrator (Windows) or whatever it's called (also free), then put the files into WazzuupMigrator Android (costs money ) but there are other ways to find the app

In UK, if the seller declares the value correctly it would be 20% VAT (~£30) + £8 Royal Mail handling charge. Most likely, they won't declare it at full price, or somehow route it through Europe (never understand how that works but it's whatever)

Thanks- in Sweden they just hit you with the highest rate regardless.

Yes it's the full fat version and it uses xiaomi's miui which some people like and some don't. I've got used to it now but did prefer android vanilla/one before. I paid £199 for mine in June from argos but realise it's gone up in price since
5g ?
I've read so many of these comment trails and it's stressing me out trying to decide!!!

I currently have a redmi note 4. I want something that has 1) a good battery 2) a good camera (certainly wouldn't mind a fancy 3 front camera one! 3) not tiny (too used to the note, but dont mind a tiny bit smaller.

I'm thinking the note 7, but then I see the 3 camera ones and wonder if it's worth having one of them instead for the fancy pics. My budget is around £150 ish.

I feel like we need a good flowchart of excel spreadsheet to explain the difference in all these xiaomi phones! or an FAQ (i.e this or the mi a3 :D)

p.s Mr Switch you're awesome, thanks for all your posts!

Lol, thanks

I'm with @yadiyada on this, if you can, stretch it to the mi 9t. Failing that, get the note 8 from eglobal for arou d £150 currently
Jemma I'm confused too!
I'm (stupidly?) just trying to stick to a £150 budget. I see on Xiaomi UK site they will have the redmi 7 3+64 for £139 on monday- I assume this will be a good deal? Seems comparable to using eglobal etc if you don't need the storage

They a re both around the same price, so I'd go for the 8

As for differences, very little in reality, slightly faster processor, slightly better camera, but better is good, and like I said, if they csn both be had for around the same price, you'd be daft not to go for the better.
Cheers matey
dantoon11/10/2019 16:52

The Note 8 may have a faster processor, but that processor is a Mediatek. So say goodbye to Google Camera goodies and widespread ROM development support

I'd personally avoid the 8 and go for something like the Mi 9t. Or maybe hang around and see if the Mate 20 Pro (Like new) refresh deal comes back into stock
