this or the Redmi 9? The pointless 2MP lenses get to me

Taken with the 'pointless' 2MP macro camera of my Redmi Note 8 Pro. The main 64MP camera couldn't quite get the definition of the individual white petals right but the macro camera could...

Full HD screen, full range of sensors, Wifi 5.
This looks like a good option.
Only downside is a Mediatek CPU instead of snapdragon

It is a good option, at this price it's still a steal, in this price range it's a buy, if you can afford another £50 go for the 9s
Anyone know if this version has the notification light? It's not clear from what I've seen on the web. I'm thinking like the 8t before it that it isn't going to have one?
Very good spec for the dosh
Switchy, any idea how this Mediatek CPU compares to the 720G in the 9S? There was a time Mediatek used to make god-awful CPU's for the bottom end of the market, but I understand they've moved on quite a bit.

How many goes?

I’d guess not many considering it’s not really a moving object.

Also, ask any photographer that question and it’s very rarely one attempt to capture a particular shot.

have you got any macro shots with it? All the pictures I've seen have been pointless
winchman08/06/2020 13:47

How many goes?

Just the one. I was really only experimenting with my new phone to see what it was like.

Here's the main camera shot for comparison. TBH I'm not big into flowers (that's wifey's domain) but it was annoying me that the white rose looked so 'blown out' against the pink of the clematis. The macro shot is noticeably more defined...

What do you want me to photograph & I'll take a snap? (not the Golden Gate Bridge please)
Here's one I just took of our Erigeron Karvinskianus (Australian Daisy to you & me!). Focal length was about 1“ & the flower itself is about ½" across. Not bad for a first attempt...

And finally a bee on our Astrantia (this took a few goes cos it kept flying off!). Again this is with the 2MP macro camera...

Taken on realme 6[Image] [Image]

Nice! Sadly our foxgloves decided not to put in an appearance this year, otherwise I'd have taken a shot for comparison.

How are you liking the Realme 6? I probably would have gone for it but the price differential between it and the Redmi Note 8 Pro was just too high.
NFC on this makes this attractive over the 9S especially with COVID and contactless payments. Otherwise its the 9 PRO for NFC which costs quite a bit more. A good price and I have found Ali Express reliable. Saying that its £140 ( with voucher ) for the 128GB version on a site no longer allowed where I have ordered from. Heat added.

Any customs issues with this?
If you're in the market for a phone that's, above all, CHEAP, do be aware that Xiaomi are just about to launch the new Redmi 9 which sits in the category below this Redmi Note 9. The cameras are low rent but importantly you get the 6.53' FHD screen plus a CPU (the Mediatek G80) that almost as good. Here's a link with the news...

The cameras on the Redmi 8 and 9 phones are impressive, you can see detail in the darkest shadows of that image yet no part of the central white flower is overblown.Only a few years back we'd be paying £500+ for a phone with such a camera.

So the same as what I said but italicised. What if the flowers grow straight up instead of sloping? Am I right then??

Ha ha no offence meant, it's just that in binomial nomenclature, the name is written italicized, with the genus in upper case and species in lower case.
