If a medical condition requires you to test your own blood sugar levels, your Dr (or Diabetes nurse, or consultant) will provide a suitable meter free of charge, and add the test strips to your repeat prescription.

They don't usually do so if you are prediabetic or other glucose metabolism problems though.
A meter was very useful to help me get to the bottom of my problems when I was flaking out for no apparent reason (According to the Endocrinologist!)
I repeat - if a (diagnosed) medical condition requires you (asked by GP or consultant) to test your own blood sugar levels - you'll get meter and test strips on a prescription

Agreed, I am pre-diabetic (db2) and have been told a meter is no good to me, just watch your sugar intake ( or cut it right out in my case)learn about what's good and bad to eat, sort your diet out and get plenty of regular exercise, and get regular tests at doctors

Sorry to disagree but have T1 45years and only way I've got free tester is by asking diabetic nurse at hospital or on the odd occasion the chemist allows a new for old trade in. My GP has never wrote a script for one, probably like everything else on NHS what you get depends on where you live.
The option with the 50 additional testing strips is £15.95, not £9.99. They're not free. Description needs amending.

Ahh, yes! I see it now. I took it from the drop down menu that the 50 strips were an extra option. I've gotten a bit cynical with some ebay items lately. I find that some of them pull you in with the offer of a low price on their listing but when you see the drop down list the cheapest option is always something small and insignificant and the item that you actually searched for originally is also on the drop down list but is a lot more expensive and has basically been a form of click bait.

However, now I've read the full description below I can see this one is accurate. Apologies to the OP Good deal.

Which you would know about at that stage anyway, what's your point?
