Play.com's sale continues with what I think is a great bargain - the Godfather DVD trilogy boxset for £9.99 delivered. I've seen this 'reduced' in other stores at around £20-25 so great to see it at such a bargain price here!

£9.99 delivered - and of course even less with QUIDCO for those who have it!

Seen this a few days ago. Didn't post it because Find-DVD haven't got it listed.

The red collection has always been cheaper than the black one. Still, it's most certainly a bargain if the only difference is the colour of the boxset.

Can anyone confirm if this has subtitles?? I tried to watch the films on Film4 a while back, but i really couldnt make out what was being said in parts of the first film...

I have the black boxset, like many others I'm sure .. .very good price here (is the packaging the only difference please?)

Cheers.

Its cheaper because The red collection does not contain the bonus disc of extra features that the black collection comes with.

In that case, I'd recommend any true Godfather fan stick with the black boxset - The boxset looks better and has more content. Actually, most true Godfather fans would already own the black boxset by now anyway...

Thanks for the rep everyone...

...mind you, this is an excellent price for three very very good movies - together in one collection. Can't say fairer than that!

Yep, as Aion said, most fans will already have the full boxset.

I've not seen a single one of these films before and never really had the inclination even though I know they're critically acclaimed. For £9.99 though...

For £3.33 each, you can't go wrong. The first two are brilliant.

..and even the third is pretty good - although not a patch on the other two!

BELTER! "A offer you cant refuse...." oh sorry i had to!

Black one is a must for the bonus tho so....

A must if you really want the bonus features....

Just how much more is the best price for the black box? Although I always wait for the box set to come out and it's always nice to have the fanciest, most complete box set, I rarely have time to watch all the movies I buy never mind spend time watching the story of how they made the film, cast interviews and deleted scenes etc. I think I've watched 3 or 4 bonus discs in my life and that's when i was really, really bored!

It is reported that this set has the better picture quality than the original black set. These are the same prints I believe as the individual releases. So, if you want the lot, go for the black set but if you just want the movies at the best possible quality released so far, then go for the individuals or the red set.

oh great, one i missed, last sunday bought these in hmv for £15, oh well you cant win them all.but ill have a bl***y good try :-)

I hear the black box set comes with a commemorative horse's head.

great price for a fantastic box set, I'm buying far too much from this site

I loved loved loved the book but I'm afraid the film may be a disappointment(?) I've never seen it

You wont be disappointed. Part II's the best film I've ever seen, followed by Part I.

woohoohooo i'm pretty sure i'm getting this for my birthday. emailed it to my gf cos she never has a clue what to get! lol. the tv gonna be all mine that day!!

voted hot!

oh, and i must be one of very few who love episode 3. dont know why, but i enjoyed it as much as the first 2.

I've never seen any of the Godfather movies, even tho they are all rated top notch.

Just bought this just in case I ever get the urge, I cant see myself watching them tho due to the length!

.. do yourself a favour and sit through them, they are worth it!

Some of the best movies ever!!! Never mind the length, I watched the first one with one of my brothers once, who thought he wouldn't stick it out, he ended up being hooked, had to watch the other 2 on the same day, not that I minded!
Whoever hasn't got these films, get them now, cheapest you'll find is about a fiver per movie.

Thanks, brill price.

Can't believe some have never seen these films, to those who haven't - you must!!

agreed

part 2 is the best film i have ever seen

de niros finest hour

Part 1 is my fave, then 2.

As for part 3, never pull strings to get your daughter one of the main parts.

He didn't really pull strings. Sofia got put in the role at the last minute because Winona Ryder dropped out.

Wifes got the black box (cost her about £50 years ago), much as I like these films i'd rather watch Scarface:p

I was under the impression that this boxset was released more recently than the black one and as such contains a better transfer than the original 'black box' release?

I've gone for this anyway as I barely have enough time to watch all the films I have in my backlog nevermind hours of bonus features too!

What's a good price for the black one then? Anyone know?!?

The Black Box set is £17 at DVD.co.uk

Theres usually a few vouchers kicking around for that site too

Just noticed something... If this is a 4 DVD set, is one of the films split between 2? This only dawned on me when I saw some black sets had 4 and some had 5 DVDs!

Yes

Godfather Part 1 - Disk 1
Godfather Part 2 -Disk 2&3
Godfather Part 3 - disk 4

Thanks to MrHunter & PoisonJam...

As has been said the black box seems to be around £17 and I probably wouldn't watch the extras more than a couple of times so red may well be the way to go.

One film over 2 discs.... There's only 15 mins difference between this and the 1st (or was it 3rd?!?). A small niggle but no good for watching f you're tucked up in bed with the flu!!!

Really wish I'd bought this set at this price now :x

Anyone know the next cheapest? I tried Find-DVD but it only shows the black box set and lots of James Brown stuff...

EDIT: Ohm I see it is still at this price! Ordered
