I perfer the amazon echo dot
Currys would follow CPWH. Then it's the price match game with other retailers. Wouldn't be surprised if all drop price of this item next week.

Thanks OP
Tempting, I currently have two Echos but I like the idea of being able to use Google music at home as I do on my phone 🤔

They are the same company so likely doing the same deal.
Typical. I'm after 3 echo dots.
Good deal though. Heat added.

Better than the Echo Dot but still not nearly ready for market.
As a novice , can you set two separate alarms automaticallyto go off for Monday to Friday ? .

Get a chromecast audio or full home then. This isn’t good enough for music.

Can you enlighten us as to why?
Got one of these. Said it before but these aren’t very good. Get the full home or get echo dot. Home is decent speaker and dot has Bluetooth or audio out. Even with this and chromecast audio still not as tidy a solution as using Spotify you can’t control volume if you set up home mini to play music on chromecast audio. Get annoying saying volume up or down all the time! Ok for on the desk for general questions (much better the echo) or for smart home stuff.

Love these, flawless control of all my home devices, works great with Chromecast, understand 3 different voices in my house and plays their respective Spotify accounts (so no getting kicked out of Spotify randomly when you're out), integration with calendar is great, and the sound on this is just another level compared to the dot. Two home minis playing music as one is actually quite loud and sounds great!

Im waiting for my two homes for£50 each via the telegraph offer though, will have 3 homes and 2 minis.

It's a bit ridiculous to say this isn't ready for the market, the echo was in a worse place when it was released and took years to get to where the home is now. These aren't just static products, they're meant to evolve over their lifetime. If you just waited for the perfect version Google would never have released it.

One example of many is that the Echo Dot functionality with Nest is awful. So considering Google own Nest you'd think they'd take the opportunity to make the Google Home functionality much better no? It's marginally better. Unbelievable. You're just paying to be a beta tester right now with these devices.

Just be aware that you need to pay for music on Google. It is not free, I thought it would play my music that is uploaded.

It will play uploaded music, you just need to setup a playlist with your content and ask for your playlists.
An example being I uploaded Iron Maiden - Somewhere Back in Time to google and can request it through a 'Maiden somewhere back in time' playlist that I also added.

What? So I have to pay for a subscription to play music I've already uploaded?

no...you can connect to it and use as bluetooth speaker but not connect it to a speaker like the Dot. It also doesn't have an audio out. This is why the Dot is better as a standalone product. if you have chromecast devices as well less of an issue. Also why the Google home is good as it is also a decent (well compared to most bluetooth speakers around £150).

no. you just have to use the google music app to cast it. Not a major thing considering it is the only provider that lets you upload your own music for free and cast it for free.

I'm no audiophile but from my experience with these, the Chromecast audio is the best solution if decent sounding music is one of your priorities. The echo dot (output) is nowhere near as good.

Spotify volume is a pain I agree, all these apps/products atm each have their own niggling annoyances...the best features from each one would make a great one

Chromecast audio is same quality as echo dot. It does has a hifi setting but all 320 quality. I’ve tried both connected to a good amp and speakers and the same. Bluetooth not as good but more flexible. Key difference is when the dot and mini same price as recently you don’t have to pay another £30 on top. Mini would be the better product if has 3.5mm out and Bluetooth out as google is better for questions. Having said that i use 4 different calendars for work and home...1 iCloud, 2 office365 for university and google calendar as also use android and it’s the most cross compatible...ended up with echo plus as its smart hub and can tell me all my information (more vital then random questions!) google needs to start supporting other providers too!
