GoldenEye 007 - Nintendo 64 - Nintendo Switch Online

The iconic secret agent 007 will soon be entering the Nintendo 64 library on the Nintendo Switch system. Starting Jan. 27, GoldenEye 007 will be available for everyone with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership as part of the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online collection

Enter a world of espionage as Bond in GoldenEye 007. Your covert operation to stop the GoldenEye weapon satellite spans the globe – you’ll infiltrate underground bases, charge through a military train and slink around the depths of a jungle. Along the way, M will brief you on your objectives and Q Branch will support your efforts with an array of gadgets, but the ultimate success of this mission is yours alone. Save the day, then go for the gold in spy-vs-spy action locally** or online in the four-player multiplayer mode and enjoy round after round of first-person competitive action.

FINALLY! Any news of the Xbox version?
    Moonky's avatar
Probably revealed tonight during their event at 8pm GMT
  2. mcguire85's avatar
Might buy a switch only for this. No game will beat it

If you have a Xbox it'll come to Rare Replay at some point, we may find out later today when that is. That said it won't have online, but it has better features I believe.

The original experience has been updated with improved control options (including dual analogue stick support), native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD (where supported), a consistent refresh rate and a full complement of achievements to unlock

I have a switch but no online subscription or anything like that.
What would i need to purchase to be able to play Goldeneye?
    Thanks

I usually run family memberships, £7.50 a slot been selling em on fb for about 5 years now, never have a shortage of people wanting slots.

As NSO N64 games are restricted to playing with friends only, I have created a discord group to make it easy to find people to play Goldeneye with, hopefully can get a few matches going

Man, the hours we spent playing the original.
    A post-pub favourite

I absolutely LOVED Goldeneye on my N64. Single player and splitscreen multiplayer was fantastic. If you completed the game on the hardest difficulty setting then you were rewarded with 2 extra levels.
    thepostie's avatar
Some of them levels were nearly impossible to do. Luckily a mate of mine invested in an N64 Action replay to cheat our way to victory!

I have a switch but don’t have Nintendo online membership. To play this do I just buy a 12 month online Nintendo account.?

Or eBay for £12 the year I had mine all year never had a problem with it

One of the most overrated games in history, horrible FPS with laggy controls that feel like a rubber band is holding the joypad. Poor console gamers don't know any better.
    deleted248415's avatar
Did you own it on n64 when it came out? Hours of fun. One of the best multiplayer games at the time. Then the same people released time splitters.
  11. erroll's avatar
So for someone who is not interested in the online side of Goldeneye (at this minute), pay 21 quid for expansion on Switch or stick with GP on Series X?

    Whatddya reckon folks

    thepostie's avatar
Stick with the GP version on Series X. No point with the switch version if your not into the online.

I hated that mission where you had to protect Natalya from enemy soldiers while she geeked out on the computer

As part of a family group splitting the cost

It's on there Facebook page that's where I got it from

Honestly, multiplayer is where it's at with this game. If the switch does this right, it will be outstanding. As much as begrudge the cost of their so called expansion pack. This game will be enough for me to bite the bullet.
    aseddon130's avatar
It’ll only be the regular online multiplayer with switch N64 games, it won’t be baked into the game like it should be. It’ll still probably show as 4 player split screen on each switch that’s playing
  16. blueyes74's avatar
I have the family subscription but not the expansion pack. It appears that can't be added. You need to buy both in one go?
    jco83's avatar
You can upgrade to it, if you have Family Membership you get 8p/day for however long you've got left towards upgrading
  17. LeeF81's avatar
Says I need expansion pack at £25. Is this correct? I paid for online but not expansion pack.
    tommybuges's avatar
    Yes
  18. antmatz's avatar
What is best option to get expansion. Got about 3 months left of a legit sub for standard online. Single, not family. Is via Nintendo direct the only way? Sounds like sharing a family won’t work?
    erroll's avatar
If you go on the E Shop it gives you an upgrade price for both Single and Family with expansion.

As I've only recently joined a Single sub, my upgrade prices are:

    £21.23 (Single upgrade + Exp)
    £46.23 (Fam upgrade + Exp)

Your upgrade prices should be cheaper as you've only 3 months left to run.

Might just play it on Game Pass instead

Not to be a killjoy but man the controls suck on nso ..there is a lengthy workaround but much more straight forward to play on Xbox gamepass if you have it
    64bit_Dan's avatar
Follow these steps. Controls are perfect once the settings are changed:

I’m sorry to be thick but my boy wants to play Goldeneye. Which membership does he need? there is like a standard one and then something like an expansion pack version?
    erroll's avatar
    Yes you need both

Same man. Aztec 007 agent still up there as the hardest gaming thing I’ve ever done. Top 10 easily still and at the time top 1. Beating a Link to the Past start to finish with no guide and no internet whatsoever as a 10 year old kid is up there too.

    Perfect Dark (one day please!!)
    curlydan77's avatar
The original Perfect dark is available on RARE REPLAY on the Xbox one. There is also a different more recently updated Xbox 360 version on there which is similar but not the same game. I know Perfect Dark had a better variety of weapons, more multiplayer options, better graphics, ran more smoothly and was technically a superior game since it took advantage of the expansion pack but personally I still preferred the original Goldeneye. When it came out there was nothing else in the home like it. The ability to play a 4 player FPS on the same TV with four mates was unprecedented and set the standard for things to come. An absolutely brilliant game and an unbelievable great experience from my youth which I cannot wait to relive again. I will definitely be taking out a new switch online account so that I can play this.

Been 20 years since I played it on N64, weird how I don't remember it looking that unresolved, but this screenshot has made a man already happy at this being released, slightly happier

One of the most iconic games ever created. The campaign was good, as each difficultly level had an increasing number of objectives to complete. But the multiplayer was ahead of it's time, especially compared to PC games of the era. The hours we spent on that multiplayer alone. Fond memories.
  29. Ross_Parker's avatar
An absolute classic. Brilliant single player with loads of added extras to keep you going back, such as unlocking cheats by completing levels in quick times. Facility was particularly difficult if I recall.

Favourite multiplayer setup was 4 player License to Kill (one shot kills).

Can't wait to relive it all again🔫.

Sadly I'm not interested in playing this until I can buy the official Switch N64 controllers, which have been out of stock since October. I'm really surprised that Nintendo haven't sorted out their supply issues before the Goldeneye release.

I wish i had left the good times in my memory and hadn’t gotten super hyped by this site about this lmao. Just put it on. What a shower of it plays like now. Just made me realise what the hell am I paying for the expansion pass for, a bunch of really old games. Some things are best left in the past
    turtles1's avatar
It's not great at all. My son and I tried 2 player and, after 15 mins faffing with the controls, it wasn't much fun.

Timesplitters was, and still is, far better for split screen multiplayer.
  32. lloydy187's avatar
ahh the memories of playing this with three mates, trying to hunt them all down only to walk into a room full of carefully placed proximity mines....😔 Good times! (edited)

but why doo I have to buy a subscription. why can't I just buy the game
  37. ashman33's avatar
Blimey I remember speed running facility to get that cheat.

Stacking proximity mines in multiplayer was fun. They glitch out from memory
    Tuskentank's avatar
I still remember that facility speed run. Of course, there was also the dodgy Natalya AI where she would run directly across the line of your fire and cause you to fail the entire level. I remember starting a level again just to deliberately shoot her, it could be so maddening. 😬

Memorable game though and so many moments felt like real achievements, especially figuring out the best paths for the speedruns.

O the good old days this is the one game I completely clocked brings back memories

Yes!! Best bond game ever this was
    RocSpartan's avatar
It was, but I also enjoyed the Everything or Nothing game that was released on the original Xbox. Superb single player campaign.
