Handy to have in your car or house.

Even if you have never used one before - shove the terminals to each end of a battery and set to voltage to the 2 (for C, D, AA, AAA batteries) or to the 20 (for car and pp3 9V batteries) on the left of the dial - (you can see it in the picture below) it will tell you how the battery is, and at this price is cheaper than most battery testers.

Also - being digital there is no parallax error if your head is jammed under a car bonnet when you try to use it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q)what range of DC Amps can this meter read? - PSmith
A) 1uA - 10A

Q)Can this meter give a reading in the 0 to 20 ohms range? - S Hardy
A) no - it will give a reading in the 0 to 200 ohm range

COMMENT - this question is more aimed at an analogue multimeter, although a I guess a 0-200 range will lose the decimal)

Its not a Fluke - but you would not leave a Fluke in your car.

A very handy item to have & at a good price.

Good find.

Good deal. Maplin normally sell overpriced carp but I can't fault their MM's, had one for about 10 years with no problems. Would definitely recommend one of these over one of the cheapo POS's that Aldi, Lidl etc seem to have on a regular basis.

Totally agree - Maplin's Multimeters are excellent. I've had mine for over 7 years and it's still going strong.

I've got this exact model and it has always served me well.:)

Goo, Hot, Thanks

Why do these cheap ones never have an Audible Short-Finder function on them ?

Have you tried looking at people's legs on holiday in summer?

I have one of these. Bought it a while ago when I was helping an electrician rig up the wires in my house. Problem is, I'm no electrician (which is why I got one in).

So, anyway, does anyone know if there's a weblink which gives good tutorials on how to use this piece of equipment - the instructions aren't that hot.

Voted hot by the way.

I have this as a fallback, ie dont mind if I loose or break it, multimeter in the tool bag.
Does all I ask of it...but as said, no audible continunity. I miss it when needed.

Anyone know if this can be used to find out the mah a battery holds? I can get the voltage which gives me a rough idea of how charged it is.

Just 1 warning when buying cheap meters like this , it is unfused on the amps if connected wrong B-A-N-G
So please make sure you know what your doing before you touch this ..

Ah is the integral of A (or watts/voltage) against time. A multimeter only takes a reading at a finite point (or points) and so it could only be done by plotting readings over time then calculating the area beneath the line.

The type of thing you are looking for is generally called a 'professional charger' or 'charger analyser such as...

maplin.co.uk/mod…4m8

A company called La Crosse makes a few and searching on their reference numbers which I think are 700 and 900 proceeded by two letters can get you the same innards badged as other manufacturers.

I suspect that this ]Scottish RSC tutorial is one of the best but there are several others:

Thanks - You're welcome.

For those who wanted audible continuity testers and fuses, unfortunately the discount is not as good on the enhanced model...
