Hell, can this week get any worse.
Last week, I bought a Goodmans DVD Recorder from Makro for about the same money. I was looking for a new Home Cinema kit as well but I never found the one 'I' wanted.
This will do and the other one can go back.

Nice one Cat:)

I'm still waiting for a DVD Recorder / DivX player to come on themarket at a reasonable price. I guess this doesn't do it?

me too! don't think this fits the bill though

I don't think I'll have any probs. I spend thousands at Makro every month.

I bought one of these in a similar deal last year from Empire Direct.

Had a problem with the DVD player in that it kept saying there was no disc present and skipped alot. They replaced it and have had no problems since.

The surround sound is not as good as a more expensive package and sometimes you get a strange squelchy distorted noise from the 2 rear speakers when using full surround mode. Not sure if that is due to the output from the media being played (ie. the audio from a dvd disc that wasnt recorded with surround sound etc..) but you can selct either 3.1 or 5.1 modes. The sound quality (for the majority of media and sources) and volume are more than adequate and it is easy to setup and use.

I found that the preset audio modes (rock, pop etc..) are a little strange and I tend to use the rock or general ones for everything as the others either sound too tinny or too much bass. You can't change the levels of treble or bass manually either which is a downside.

Overall I'd rate this as a 7/10. And for the price (I paid £54 on empire direct so may be worth checking if they still have it) its a good piece of general purpose kit.

0.1% from Quidco. Is it really worth it for 6p?? I don't think so.

Thanks for the pointer Cat

Decent reviews.

grrrrrreat

newbie question:
Do home cinema systems automatically include amplifiers?

Thanks

Yes the amps are within the DVD player itself, or sometimes within the sub depending. Sometimes the watt output tends to be exagerated with these systems.
