Chromecast Information

What can I do with the Google Chromecast?
Stream media from your smartphone or tablet to the TV by plugging your Chromecast into the HDMI socket. Watch your favourite TV shows, films, music, sport or games which you would normally watch on your small device on the big screen. Continue to use your phone like normal while streaming and it will not disrupt what is already playing. Mirror any website from your laptop's Chrome browser to the TV, take surfing the web to another level. Turn your TV screen into a game board, racetrack, dance floor or trivia quiz. With Chromecast, everyone can play games using their phone as their personal controller, while watching the action live on the big screen.

What devices are compatible with Chromecast?
Connect to your Chromecast via either iPhone, iPad, Android phones or tablets or Mac and Windows laptops and Chromebooks.

How do I setup my Chromecast?
The Chromecast is easy to setup and connect to your chosen device. Plug the Chromecast into the back of your HDTV and power, connect it to your Wi-Fi network, then you are ready to start casting from your phone, tablet or laptop.

Could somebody give me a brief outline as to what the benefits of Chromecast are? I've got Amazon Fire TV and Now TV, and genuinely don't know if a third device would be of any use to me.

Has this been improved since launched or is it still the same?

Is the £5 voucher to use on this order, or for the next one?

I've only just recently learned that it can be used to mirror the BT Sport App from your phone. With there not being any BT sport app on consoles/android boxes this is a big plus for me.

I always think it's a frying pan when I see that image...

Amazon Fire TV - media player device.
Now TV - entertainment subscription service, much like Netflix.
Chromecast - stream to connected TV from device and app that supports Chromecasting.

If you use apps that are not supported by Amazon Fire (such as Now TV, right?) then you could use a device to Chromecast instead. Now TV has Chromecast support. If not I'd save yourself the cash OR if you want to use your phone on your TV there are HDMI cables that allow this and you wouldn't have to worry about Chromecast support

Yes, but only if you have the regular by sports subscription. If you have a free one with your mobile contract, it will not work.

In what form is the voucher given? Is it emailed directly after the order (so I can use it pretty much straight away on another order from Maplin)? Or is it sent by post? Can it be used online and instore? etc. They don't really give any information on this on the website? TIA.

It's okay I found the T's & C's. The vouchers can be collected up to about end-Nov-2017 and can be spent during Dec-2017.I guess they get emailed.

Same question i have. Was planning to buy chromecast and firestick as gifts.

The staff in-store can be charmed into selling you more than one, FYI

Just ordered one from Curry’s for same price + free delivery. Cex are buying chrome casts for £17/18 by the looks so makes this a no brainer if you just want the now tv voucher.

Oops... it’s a pound more from curry’s

Was £15 last year

The Chromecast is great for just having it
I hardly use mine but it's one of the few things I don't mind lying in a drawer not being used because when I do need it, it's perfect.
e.g. visiting relatives, great to take with you and use for photo slideshows on the TV. Any use involving travel/luggage It's ideal and I wouldn't dream of taking my nowtv box or firetv box.

But as said above it mostly just lives in a drawer at home.

Does this have kodi?

No. It just "broad- casts" whatever's on ure phone aleady. No content on it as such

Nope cast is more like "throw" than broadcast - using your phone or tablet or whatever you are just casting a link to a stream over to the chromecast and it streams the video from that website- not necessarily something that's on your phone

But most android phones support miracast and most TVs also have built in mircast support so i can connect my phone with TV in few seconds without even WiFi and can even cast anything on tv from mobile phone be it apps, audio, video, youtube, kodi etc

Its annoying google removed mircast support in pixel phones and forcing others to use chromecast because it work great on all others android phones

Don`t forget about 5% cashback from Quidco for limited time

Yup. But if you want cashback, you should choose maplin via Quidco (5%) instead CurrysPC(1%)

Is the 5% quidco valid for click and collect orders with payment in store?

Agreed. Sadly purchasing through Maplin wouldn’t have been suitable for me as my closest store is around 10 miles away and I don’t have the time to get there, so Currys was perfect with their free shipping.

Went into Maplin they said they don't do student discount on the Chromecast

That's a very good point but there's still a lot of non-smart TV's out there, I'll still have my current non-smart TV without miracast support in a couple of years time, hopefully.

I got a 5% discount with my NUS card the said it not 10% which was strange but they said that's all that came off.
