Is this one any better than the first generation, I get quite a bit of buffering when streaming.
WiFi signal and router are good so assuming it's the Chromecast itself.
Now do I need another?!?....

Yes, I find that there is a performance boost over the first generation

I have 2 of them. No problem with streaming, screen casting etc.
I think yours was faulty
I have held off buying one of these as I have multiple chromecast audios around the house for multi room streaming. I remember at one point the chromecast video could not be added to groups and stream audio at the same time as chromecast audio's.

Anyone know if this is still the case - i can't find any mention of a change anywhere

Thanks !

I have 2 audio and 1 chromecast and my home group lists all three but I haven't actually tried streaming audio to all three (I assume it works but will try it later if I remember)
Isn't there any rakuten deals on?
Nothing wrong with the 1st gen. If you having issues it's your network.
Can you do screen mirroring of BT Sport from iPhone to Samsung tv with these?

I bought the first one and experienced the same. My internet was lightning fast on phone and PC and still got buffering in the Chromecast. Sold it within a week. Would be interested If I knew it would work properly
I use Chromecast to screen mirror bt sport onto my tv.
Is there any way to download your purchased Google play shows and films to a chromecast to watch offline later, or is it streaming only

Yes. I haven't had BT Sport for about 6 months, but I do remember it being a fantastic app - especially when paired with a Chromecast.
nice
I've never had a problem with my gen 1, never had buffing issues.
I’ve had chromecast audio and the video above for 18 months and not had any issues withstreaming. We’ve even taken it to bnb’s while on holiday to keep the kids entertained. Hot deal have some heat op

Probably your WiFi or router, nothing wrong with the Chromecast.

Definitely better than first gen. I had same issues with 1st gen especially when screen mirroring. These perform alot better and also have get a stronger wifi signal.

I think so yes providing you can download the Google home app on iPhone
I tried Roku, Amazon stick and sold them, kept Chromecast.
I've had one for over a year but never really found a use for it.
I can't see the benefit of casting rather than playing from the NowTV box, FireTV or firestick

Debatable. I have a few 1st gen and a few 2nd gen ones. Yes the 2nd gen is a tiny bit faster and can utilise the 5ghz spectrum of internet. But if you are simply using 2.4ghz like most people the differences between the devices are negligible.

Hope that helps clear things up.
Noticed it was this price in the Irvine store this morning.

How many TVs do you have in your mansion?

I've got a fire TV stick for everything else but need a Chromecast to cast BT sport to my TV from my phone (the by sport app isn't available on fire TV stick and at the time couldn't find another way of doing it).

Hahaha. I wish, just have a big family and many aunties and uncles to oversee on a technical front

I just checked and with my first gen audio and video chromecasts I cannot make a homegroup contain audio and video chromecasts. I'm sure I used to have this option but now my homegroup can only contain audio casters.

Remember to turn OFF Guest Mode if you don't want the chromecast transmitting on a wifi channel - mine caused poor wifi signals as the damned things act as a wifi hotspot (of sorts) giving out more signal than my wifi modem router. The wifi channel they create is unnamed (most of the time) and so you can see very strong wifi channel(s) possibly interferring with your regular wifi. Turning off your main wifi modem router then makes these display their chromecast name. As far as I can see, the guest mode on Chromecasts is more likely to causes issues (as standard out the box) than solve problems.

If you've got a 5Ghz router, and it's not too far away from the CC, then you should notice a difference.
Seems to be in store as well now, at least in the Prestwich Tesco.
