Same price in Argos too
Are these needed to watch the oculus quest on the TV?
I had one of these, thought it was fantastic! But then I got the Amazon Fire stick for £20 in a sale and frankly the chromecast cannot compete.
Also available at google store for 20 but needs a 50 quid spend for free delivery. 19 quid at screwfix. The OP looks like best delivered price.

Could you please elaborate as I'm torn between the two. Cheers.

Sure man. So after a while the chromecast had more than a few bugs with connectivity with WiFi and phone apps. I also found using my phone was a pain, whereas the fire stick has the remote.

Fire stick has Prime video and an app store. Voice control. It's got the same video apps as the chromecast but a few more.

The quest updated and allows the older Chromecast to work now.

Can you cast from phone to firestick?

You cannot. Definitely a down side when you just want to throw something onto that TV.

So not a comparable alternative at all then?

You can, app dependant. Amazon video does, YouTube does, and Netflix does. Others probably do too. Not as easily, but it does it.

That said, I'd always go for the Chromecast as I've never had any problems with connectivity and always have my mobile on me, whereas the Amazon fire remote goes missing easily.

I didn't want to sound as harsh lol

Its a streaming device, the content is categorically the same, with more options on the fire stick. Control scheme is all personal preference. Perfectly comparable.

Oooh I didn't realise this at all! Thank you I'll give this a go for sure. It could have easily have been my phone (me and the missus both on Samsung).

What's oculus?
Wading in, the Chromecast is far less fickle on its power supply. My firestick won't run off the USB from my TV, The Chromecast will.

I prefer the Chromecast in general, but that might be because I've used it more.

I didn't like the remote for the firestick.

I also prefer my Google Home to Alexa, which is neither here nor there but means I can say 'OK Google, Play Brooklyn 99 from Netflick' and she turns my TV on and starts casting. Doesn't work with Prime but I have my phone with me more than I should admit.
Own 2 of these along with a Firestick and a Roku. The Chomecast is my favourite by far. No need for the Firestick anymore as Chromecast now supports amazon video, happily been left on a shelf for months. The Roku is the best for travelling and works perfect in hotel rooms etc.

Probably going to use this offer/Black Friday to get a chance to buy another for a friend.
Think this was £19.99 in john lewis too
I got a question. If I cast from my mac, can I just cast certain homescreens... whilst still using another and it will not show on screen? Thank you

Sure you can - using Miracast (which goes by various names on Phones - Samsung call it Smart View) you can share pretty much anything to the Fire Stick (and in my experience it usually works better than the Chromecast too - i have both devices, but the CC has been relegated to the drawer whereas the Fire Stick gets daily use).

By sideloading apps the Fire Stick can do pretty much anything you would want a streaming stick to do. The CC is more of a one-trick pony imo.

More apps? Isn't the point of Chromecast that you can cast practically anything, including just mirroring your phone screen? I don't see how it could possibly have more apps.

Yea but sure You are limited to what’s on Netflix & amazon prime with fire stick plus your charged. I’ve both & although I love my fire stick I only have Netflix I wouldn’t be without chromecast you can watch what ever you want with no limits as long as you know what websites to download ..
Heat added

Can you cast sky go from mobile to TV with this?

Unfortunately not but that's the Sky apps fault not the Chromecast.

BT sport app works as do many others. Technically you could mirror your phone's screen to the Chromecast and the view Sky Go on your phone but I can't guarantee that would work very well.

I think the fire stick will be the better option as you can side load apps on to it too from what I've learnt.
I wouldn't touch the chromecast with a bargepole. It's flakey as hell just do a search for "stuttering video chromecast"
So cheap! I wish Chromecast Audio was that cheap ;/

Same as me, owning Roku, Chromecast and Fire stick. I've taken the firestick to work for the staff room. We've got a universal IR remote at home for the TV and Roku which is a nice setup but I've usually got my phone in my pocket, or for Netflix and 4od use Google home commands.

I've read a few comments about the Chromecast having issues, seriously considering the 🔥 stick now.

Yes. The fire stick can mirror your phone screen. It's also easy to access by holding down the home key on your remote and selecting mirroring. Or anywhere you see the cast symbol e.g on a YouTube video just press it and it will automatically launch YouTube and the video on your firestick.

Activate smart view on your Samsung, should do the trick.
Think I'm still rocking a flawless v1 chromecast, have a v2 on another TV - does the v3 add any new features or improvements over the older ones?
