This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Google Chromecast Audio available and in stock at MyMemory.
This was discontinued by Google in January and they are as rare as hen's teeth.
Going for a lot more used on Ebay. The main thing here is the availability new at a realistic price,
You can only buy one at a time on MyMemory for some reason.
If you know what these are you will know how good they are so not a great deal of explanation needed.I have mine plugged into a Naim Mu-so 1st Gen and an old vintage hifi as a multi room system.
Get one while you can.

I got one, paid £15 at the time, so cold at this price, let's wait until they reduce it to £20ish or less, then will deserve hotness

Unlikely but even if Google Home doesn't work they still work with BubbleUpNp, HiFiCast and a host of other apps and workarounds.

As did I.
However, try buying one now. The DeLorean is calling.

Nope, I'm totally stumped as well.

Hehe, what I mean is, I haven't tried to go in, buy, log out and try again or whether it is just a restriction on each individual purchase.
Can't really see why MyMemory would be bothered about ebay resales if they wanted to shift them. Otherwise, why reduce the price?

Current prices are an indication of relative rarity. I'd be very surprised if new examples of these ever went back down to under £20.

Probably just to ensure that everyone who wants one, gets one. Don't blame them, if it makes their customers happy.

Thanks , I tend to use Bubble more often then Home already just interested in other thoughts so the Chromecast wont be prematurely redundent.

Will checkout HifiCast too ...thanks again. 😄
What pros and cons does the Chromecast offer compared to the Amazon echo input?
Cold as ice. Should be £10 or giving them away. Not paying more than £15 for it.
Bizarre idea of a bargain, £8-10 more than they charged for ages.

Chromecast Audio has an optical digital output in the 3.5mm jack. The Amazon Echo Input only has an analog output.
Plus that annoying eavesdropping and data mining habit and I don't like talking to machines in the house.
Basically if you want decent audio quality the CCA is better - if you're not fussed and just use Spotify low res etc the Echo would probably do.

These are actually selling for nearly £50 on eBay though - its worth what someone is willing to pay, and that might change over time.

These were selling for less than £30 throughout November/early December on ebay. The price increase on ebay must be from people buying them for Christmas gifts or something - I don't expect those prices to stay at that level at all. People are totally insane if they spend anywhere near £50 for this.

Maybe, but at this precise point in time, £27.99 is a decent price if you want one. It wasn't two months ago, it might not be in February, but right now it is.

The regular price that was about 6 months ago. I was expecting the price to drop further.
I've looked at this about 2 weeks ago and while My Memory price was the same, I found a few at about £25 but decided to wait.

Also, apparently these are being faked alot. There are loads of fakes around...

Why would the price drop?
Runs contrary to laws of supply and demand.

The suspicion is that Google dropped these because they didn't do any data mining and they wanted to push their lower res speakers and assistant systems on the public.

If the demand is there, yes. And it may be, but I suspect the majority, at least the younger generation will not use these and will prefer smart speakers. I personally do not need it, but in the same time I can make use of it. Not saying this is expensive, but I would have got it if it was a proper bargain.
I can use this with my old stereo, but I can survive without the system, as I've got smart speakers everywhere in my house. Maybe not the same quality, but I can live with it and the place is tidy.

What are you lot on, the price was slashed after Google pulled the plug, down as low as £6.99. Most of the retailers have now cleared stocks but My memory still have some so are hypng the price for those that missed out as they have no competition from anyone would want to buy from.

Standard practice with supply and demand, not a bargain by any means, just a supplier you can probably be sure of buying a genuine one from. Next phase is new ones become unavailable and used price will climb.

Good price for new buy I paid £18 for used one from CEX and that sounds much better

Thanks. Yet more technology to investigate now! I had never heard of either of these, and had no idea there were any options other than Google Home. I have a Chromecast Audio plugged into an old but very high quality (Quad Audio) hifi and the sound on BBC Radio 3 is very impressive.

Yep. I use a CCA into a USB DAC via optical cable, then into cheap Class D amp then Monitor Audio R452s, plus a 1st gen Mu-so. SQ is fantastic feeding it with decent quality FLACs.
Better quality at a 20th of the price of a Sonos.
Since this post... loads of these have magically appeared on ebay, brand new, chinese sellers, unlimited numbers for sale... dear God... Clearly flooding ebay with fakes. How do you spot a fake one of these? I'm not even convinced buying this from MyMemory will mean a genuine item - I'm dubious of how MyMemory suddenly has so much new stock of something that was discontinued ages ago.
THIS guy has sold 619 of them in the states... (???)

THIS listing appeared recently in the UK... clearly aware of this thread, as is purposely undercutting MyMemory price... SAME PIC (...) as above!! Different ebay account. Again has unlimited supply...

SAME AGAIN - Same pic...(!) This time £12 lol... SELLER IS BASED IN CHINA. Has accounts in UK, China, US...

This is total BS and these are all clearly fakes. Everyone should report them on ebay.
Edited by: "Master_Yoda" 23rd Dec 2019
I bet you the stuff MyMemory is selling is also fake - they seem to have unlimited stock too. Also, by putting a purchase limit of one, you have no way of seeing MyMemory's stock levels. They are the only retailer who magically keep getting stock of these... Has happened throughout 2019...
Edited by: "Master_Yoda" 23rd Dec 2019
Google's website HERE mentions Chromecast fakes and how to spot them. Not sure if you can use this for Chromecast Audio aswell.
I don't think they are selling fakes.

I think they are scam/hijacked accounts. They don't have any CCAs.

The only reason I was looking and found the Mymemory ones is that I indeed bought one from a hijacked account (unbeknown to me).
Transaction was cancelled by ebay and account suspended. Currently going through dispute procedure to claim money back.

Subsequently bought from Mymemory and that one has just been shipped.
I'll compare it with my genuine one and if it is indeed fake, then it will be going back.

Given that MyMemory are a reputable supplier, as well as the fact that Chromecast Audio's have been posted on here from them numerous times, I really rather doubt they are fake. If they are fake, they've done an amazing job of breaking Google's security and cloning their product exactly.

Anything can be faked. I've seen far more advanced fakes than this. I've seen entire Samsung phones faked.

Faking a product is one thing - getting past Google's online authentication processes as if they are genuine Google devices is a completely different thing.
This is quite a high price. I have two - got the last one for under £20
Two exclamations on a bad deal; cold.
