exactly what I done

does it matter that is not a UK version?

Good price but this will be the US version, shouldn't matter but the official UK version is rumored for release on the 1st March and will retail for around this price.

Also with previous hardware releases there have been free "Google play" vouchers and deals so might be worth holding off.

$30 in USA, £30 in the UK?
Keep waiting UK version?

I've noticed that Plex mobile can now cast to these.

If this streamed chrome tabs running silverlight (ie skygo) then it would perfect...

It says on my plex server that its now available to chromecast so could be a good buy, my only concerns are that 1080p over wifi is not good so a lot of my HD films would struggle.

what does this do exactly?

If this only works with Chrome Browser, be aware that Chrome for Android doesn't support Flash at all, so this device won't be any good for sending most live sports streams and such like (usually flash based) from an android device to your telly.

I was disappointed that I couldn't view content on Chrome for Android that works on all other platforms. Flash may not be good quality but it's still widely used.

Do you get chromecast knock offs? A Google search didn't turn up any.

Only £18 in the states. Rip off Britain.

Good for her

There's an Android app that mimics Chromecast

play.google.com/sto…_GB

If you have an older phone around & MHL cable or similar you can try it on that.

I have an Android TV box I tried it on, some stuff didn't work some did. Worth a try if you already have some spare hardware.

There not very good.

Similar to some others here, I need something that can support flash/silverlight etc for sky sports/bt sport/flash streaming. did look at a raspberry PI plugged into the xbox one but I don't believe it can cover all my needs. =/

Does this have wi-fi?

Has there been any suggestion or speculation how much this will be when its launched in the HK?

Shame but this would get me my ps3 back off my daughter( she uses for netflix and youtube) that i still use and constantly move about. she has a kindle now so she could get the app (i think)to control it. But can i get US netflix through this and is there a cheaper alternative to this that would be as effeciant.

I am in the air with this do I get a android tv box or chrome cast?

Bodo_Fraggins

Does this have wi-fi?

yes mate. its the only connection available.

Can this connect directly to phone's wifi or hotspot or does it need to connect to a central hub/router?

have 2 very very good. add app to phone watch YouTube Netflix etc on the TV.

WiFi only.

So this is like coverting your tv into a wi-fi enabled dlna tv?

Good price for an import, will probably be around the same when it's launched here.

If you're worried about it being US, Curry's mentioned that it was coming out March 1st here. Google said it wasn't true, but for Curry's to say that then it must be around that time.

Simply *cannot* see the point of Chromecast or anything similar when for not much more you can buy a dedicated quad core Android standalone unit. You could easily use one of these instead of a Nettop PC or even a microserver (if you have a NAS).

This is a newer one called the Halo, Chinese import only right now I think (I haven't done that much research) but you get the general picture... (The guy is a bit off-putting, but the opinion is good and the unit looks awesome: youtube.com/wat…Y3c )

This is better option, just use it with wireless or Bluetooth mouse.

amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

Bought mine for $30 in December (in the US, granted, so I'm not necessarily saying this is a bad deal) and it's had limited use since then

UK-relevant chromecast enabled apps are fairly sparse at the moment. Unless there's something specific anyone is after that's already there, I'd suggest holding off until the official launch, at which point I don't doubt you can get one of these just about anywhere for £30 or lower (the RRP in the US is $35 after all) and will have the benefit of easy returns, UK adaptors etc.

These aren't uk specific - it uses your phone or tablet to cast stuff so as long as you can get it powered up and connected to your wifi then it will work just like one that will eventually come out in the UK. Only thing that that is US specific about it is the plug, but if you power it via USB port on your tv you won't need a US-UK plug adaptor (plug adaptors are cheap anyways).

I'm speaking from experience as I got one in the US and love it for netflix. They just opened the API so it should have loads more channels like Roku does soon.

Not UK specific, but the list of Apps that are chromecast enabled are US biased. As you say, Netflix is one of them, youtube and browser mirroring - other than that there's limited UK-centric content available, No Sky, iPlayer, ITV Player 4OD etc yet.

It's not officially available in the UK yet... Should be cheaper when it's 'properly' released :P

The sdk was only released last week, so expect more apps to get casting support. Brit specific stuff though will lag till it gets released here.

Love mine though, had it a while. Heat!

I agree, I have the Rikomagic with XBMC and Plex installed and does everything perfectly.
