Description:

Turn any TV smart and start streaming

Streaming made simple straight from your smartphone

Works with Google Home for handsfree control

Love to stream box sets on Netflix, watch the latest trending videos on YouTube, or listen to the newest releases on Spotify? Do all that and more on the big screen with Google Chromecast.

Simply plug the Chromecast into your TV and connect to your home WiFi to get started. From there you can cast straight from compatible apps, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Google Play. It's a great way to make any TV smart.

Each member of the family can stream straight from their smartphone, tablet, or PC, so there's no need to re-login to your accounts or share passwords. You don't need to put anything on pause either, as you can still use your phone as you normally would.

Chromecast works with Google Home to make things even easier. Say what you want to watch and control your TV handsfree with voice commands such as “Ok Google, play Stranger Things from Netflix on my living room TV.” It's that simple.

Used to have one of these, but now have the Roku Express and Fire Stick.
Bought one about 6 months ago only used it once. Took off my Fire stick and Now TV box and replaced them with a Roku.

Can you watch live tv on a roku?

I bought this so that I can cast to a tv from a tablet whilst on holiday...would this be possible?

I'm possibly not best up to speed on stuff like this so any help will be gratefully received.

Yes you can, however, you need an app that supports casting live TV. For example BBC iPlayer caqn cast live TV but none of the other official apps can. Thats when apps like TVPlayer work well (there are plenty of others, some with plenty more channels too ). When abroad iPlayer wont work unless under a VPN but the other apps will. Hope I havent made it more confusing!
Great price sub £20! Ordered!

Yes. Chromecast will also not work if your wifi source (like hotel wifi) employs client isolation (which most guests wifi employ). It will also not work if one of your devices is connected via vpn to access geographically restricted stuff. In other words, just get a firestick.

So chromecast...virtually useless.
I've got a few firesticks, dont use them massively, so if I take one abroad & connect to wifi etc I'll be able to use amazon prime & Netflix via the fire stick??
Any potential issues I'll be likely to encounter?

Previously I've loaded a few films onto a tablet prior to going, this works fine, but I have to remember not to connect to wifi as as soon as it detects I'm abroad it wont let me watch anything. I'd just prefer to watch this on a decent sized screen..hence why I thought the chromecast might work to cast from the tablet.

Any of you with any knowledge of this feel free to chip in, thanks in advance.

Firestick will work perfectly for this purpose apart from georestricted contents but this can also be easily circumvented just by installing and running the appropriate VPN app on it (e.g. windscribe for netflix or torguard for iPlayer...etc. ) or by tunneling your connection to your home network (I do that by using wiregurad VPN tunnel using GL.iNet travel router).

Just think of the savings you have made by not getting this and making use of your firestick instead . Feel free to ask if you need any further help.
Bargain nice find buddy

Can this be used to if there is no internet connection in the place, except tab having internet through 4g sim(Cast from the tab to the TV) to watch you tube etc in a non smart TV.? Any other device can do this? thanks
Need Chromcast Ultra to view BT Ultimate 4k via casting. Any alternatives to this to view in 4K HDR 60 FPS or strictly the Ultra. Cheapest Ultra (Used/openbox) or any alternatives are welcome to be suggested.

No, the Chromecast needs a WiFi connection. Both the Chromecast and the streaming device (tablet/phone) must be connected to the same WiFi network.
I still have a first gen Chromecast that we use all the time. Is this a worthwhile upgrade?

Considering you use it all the time, then yea of course it's worth upgrading.. I was surprised how much money I got selling my first gen on eBay somebody always wants one, I already owned the third gen but it would have pratically covered the cost of buying it so it's a no brainer, before selling it I tried comparing both devices... It's very hard to notice any visual difference I even prefer the old stick shape but the new model seems to play content faster, 15x faster supposedly once again it's hard to notice but let's just say I feel less irritated when trying to get to to work therefore it must be an improvement lol

Just wondering why do you prefer Roku over nowtv , just trying to convince myself to buy one, have six nowtv sticks at the moment, I'm quite happy with them. I never used catch-up apps or Netflix until I switched from firestick.

Only prefer it because it saves having two different units taking up the hdmi slots and having one remote instead of two. The only thing I wish it had would be the Chili movies app.
