SO ITV HUB 4K ETC OR JUST PRIME AND NETFLIX IF THAT MAKES SENSE

Only 4K sources, it will upscale HD sources, but that wont make them look like 4K. I don't think ITV have any 4K content, but could be wrong. Amazon Video still doesn't support Chromecast, so that won't work either. Users of Plex will also find that HEVC playback via the Ultra isn't supported either. Netflix does work.

In my opinion these are junk, and I have 2 of them

Isn't this RRP?
Has been lower at £54 at Argos.

You need a 4K TV or monitor in order for it to output 4K Content. It can also upscale HD content to 4K.

I'm struggling to justify this just to cast stuff when my new Samsung tv has all the apps built in to stream in 4k already, including Amazon.

Also same price at Tesco if anyone has clubcard points to use.

Haven't tried it with ultra but normal HD works with bubbleupnp on network storage.

Bubbleupnp does work but which point are you replying to?

I was just mentioning specific popular services/software that isn't supported. They aren't actually limitations of the Ultra, but that these services don't currently support it, which makes it rather rubbish as a means to view content when there are similarly priced/cheaper devices that are supported by everything.

The HD Chromecast is great for the price, but this doesn't offer enough above and beyond that to justify the price (yet, and almost certainly not until it's been superseded)
bought for 40 on ebay (50 new from private seller -10 coupon earlier this year)

Good little device but VERY annoyed that you have to use their charger instead of using the USB power from your TV, otherwise it won't output 4K - even if the power from your TV is rated at 2A
The tech world has moved on this appears to be redundant technology for many people. I could be wrong and there's a universal need for this but it all seems a bit potato now.

Was good when there wasnt much smar TVs. Alot of people also have apple tv or amazon tv. I gave my fire tv away but then i got a philips screeneo projector which has a very slow decoder so i bought 2nd gen for that upon a suggestion by a forum. Haven't tried it though.

Just mentioning another popular service to help people.

Your new Samsung TV probably got cast built in anyway so no need for chromecast ultra.
A) needs separate power connection - another ugly dangling wite

B) Doesn’t work very well - choppy distorted images - which defeats the purpose when you’re striving for 4K goodness

really rubbish for the price
Can anyone tell me where I could get the standard Chromecast from at a good price please?I would like one so I can view content on my Samsung Tab A on tv

Thanks
Voted hot
Bit overpriced and I had to return it as keep disconnecting on Ethernet and WiFi. Now back to Chromecast 2
Can you watch uv films on flixster with one of these ?
Personally I'd go for a Roku streaming stick plus; 4k, more apps, nice ui, remote, allows casting. Only reason I'd take the Chromecast over the Roku is if I was looking to integrate with Google Home.

Except for projectors! None I've seen have chromecast built in
