I know it's not the cheapest the Home Mini has been (£35), but it's the closest atm.

Here are the steps:

- Add Home Mini to basket of your choice from the Currys eBay Store
- Add Washer pack from FFX Store (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232514537283), it was the cheapest item I could find.
- Use code 'PREPHOME10' (thanks F_Awan)

Result.

Thanks OP. The mini didn’t come up when I searched the curry’s eBay store so I didn’t think it was included till i saw this post. Added it onto something else I was already buying so no need for the washers, making it £35.10
So I guess, the age old question, which provides a better experience? We current have Alexa devices (Echo and an Echo Dot) What does everyone prefer and why?

Google Home fan here. Never had an Echo but the Home's speaker is supposed to be louder. Used Alexa and Google Assistant but GA is way better at understanding what you are talking about and all the 'skills' are already enabled. Alexa may have more skills in total, but many are obscure and unused - plus you have to enable them manually in the skill store.

Home works well with my phone too - if you ask for directions to somewhere, Home sends them to your phone after also telling you the basics. It also syncs reminders. It's nice to have the same assistant across all devices too (for me, that's Wear OS, Home, and Android phone).

On a side note, I own a Ninety Seven Google Home base and it's really handy - great to have a Google Home that is so portable!

The directions and reminders may be a selling point for me. The Home Mini is tempting for me as I already have a setup I'm happy with.

It's gotten better with Skills now as you can enable them via voice but it's still a pain having to still enable them.

Great review - thanks for the info

Got both in each room. Google for information and echo for smart home integration and organisation. More things work with Alexa. Big one for me being Sonos (google is coming this year) and Wemo. Also big thing I don’t like on google is you can only use google calendar. On Alexa I’ve got work (outlook) family (iCloud) google (personal for use on android) and the wife has the same. Makes a massive difference to our planning. Google music is a big plus for google though. You can upload up to 50K of your own music for free (making it the only free music streaming option). Now google have opened up Bluetooth to speakers its a closer call as that was always limiting on the home mini vs echo dot (google home and echo normal are ok for music).

Never heard of the ninety seven base before. Can you still stream music stored on your phone without an Internet connection, etc? For example on a camping trip?

It still needs internet to function, but it means you don't need to use the power supply so you can play music all around the house without messing with wires. Doesn't mess with the Home's functionality at all.

Yep I'm undecided about the Echo or Home at the moment too... Was looking at a Tado smart Thermostat for the heating. Plus my daughter streams most of her Music either via You tube or Spotify... not sure whether to go with Amazon, reviews say about if you don't have Prime then go the Google way...?
I have had both Echo Dot and google home, I settled on the google home:

The quality of the google home speakers is so much better - night and day, the echo dot feels very much like big phone speakers compared to the home having well designed speakers which actually sound okay

I never ordered anything from alexa as I like to see what I am buying - maybe that is just me?

I have a yeelight, harmony and some wifi plugs. All of them work with both identically and since using IFTT it makes no difference. I will refuse to buy a smart device that needs a hub.

Why I settled for the google home is the intergration with my phone and the better speakers but eitheir will do the job!

So would you go for the Nest Thermostat that doesn't have a hub?

You can cast music from Spotify no problem to a google home mini (it shows up as a Google Cast device), or by using voice commands. You can listen to music from YouTube by either casting the audio on Android phone, or by connecting via Bluetooth.

I did a quick test and the Home Mini lets you use it as a Bluetooth speaker for your phone without an internet connection. However, you have to pair your phone while online as this requires voice commands, which do not work at all offline. After this you can just connect like to any other speaker
Is that worth getting ? I am all new to this kind of things !
I get the message "This code can't be applied to your order." - what could I be doing wrong Have both these items in the bag?
