What is a Google Home Mini?

The Google Home Mini is a smaller version of the popular Google Home, with all the same features. A voice controlled speaker that can be used to play and control music, control smart home devices, create appointments, google search, or even play video / audio to a chromecast enabled device.

A newly introduced feature also allows you to make and take calls from the Home Mini, as well as locate your mobile should you misplace it in your home.

Bring the power of Google and the convenience of voice-interaction into the living room with the Google Home Mini hands-free smart speaker.

Use Google Mini with your Chromecast and stream shows, movies, and music with just your voice.

Google Home Mini works with Android: 4.2 or higher and iOS: 8.0 or higher. It is also compatible with Nest, Philips Hue, Hive, Samsung SmartThings, IFTTT, TP-Link, Spotify, Google Play, TuneIn, YouTube, Netflix, Google Photos, Google Chromecast, Philips, Sony and more.

What is a Google Chromecast and what can it do?

A Google Chromecast is a 'Smart Device' that connects to a TV via a HDMI port on your TV.

You can then use your Mobile/Tablet/TV control to access and stream/cast various content.

The video content you can access includes YouTube, Netflix
, Hulu, Google Play & more

Cast your favourite TV channels, subscription services, music players and more straight to the TV from your mobile or tablet, with Google Chromecast. Compact yet powerful, the Chromecast connects your TV with your smartphone or tablet and allows you to mirror screens, stream media services and much more.

Unlimited online entertainment, whenever you want it

Take your pick of over 200,000 TV shows and films as well as millions of songs, sports, games and radio programmes. Thousands of apps can be selected via the Chromecast Google Play Store and scrolling through the apps via your phone or tablet could not be more straightforward.

Whether you fancy the latest box set, BBC Sport or entertaining games, you can find them with Chromecast and cast them to your TV in seconds. Search, play and pause at your leisure and access on-demand services, subscription content and play back the latest TV using your smartphone or tablet as your remote control.

Three steps to casting

Plug in, connect and go are the only three steps it takes to start casting from your Google Chromecast Dongle 2nd Generation. It plugs straight in to the HDMI slot in the back of your HD TV and the mains via USB and then you just need to connect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network. Once connected, you can begin casting from your smart device and if it’s available online, you can cast it.

Mirror anything on your Android phone or via Chrome browser on any smartphone device. View websites, videos and more beyond the range of apps on your device. You may want to stream an online video from within a browser, view a website, explore your photos or anything that you can’t do with a dedicated app.

Highly compatible

Compatible with more than just Google devices, your Google Chromecast HDMI streaming media player can be teamed with any Android phone, iPhone or iPad, as well as a range of laptops including Chromebooks, Windows laptops and Macs. Devices which feature Android 4.1 and higher, iOS 8.0 and higher, Mac OS X 10.9 and higher and Windows 7 and higher are all ready to work with the Google Chromecast Dongle.

cracking deal. I love using the command "hey google, TV off" when I'm passing the living room and the kids are ignoring the TV and playing on tablets.

Custom commands are great, especially with a tech-illiterate wife.
I got sick of her shouting 'shut-up' at our mini - the look on her face when it replied 'ok, there's no need to be rude you daft cow' was priceless.

Great deal - heat!
A good deal again after the recent spate of 'non deals' on this.

Thanks
Its only another £10 to add another chromecast, so 2x Google Home Mini and 2x Google Chromecast for £88.
Well spotted
It's weird. My phone has the potential to listen in 24/7 and it doesn't bother me.

This has the potential too but it does bother me
They really need to add an aux out to this for it to compete with Echo Dot

Not the same thing as an aux out but you can set the mini to stream music to a better (nearby) Bluetooth speaker.
Can we connect these to say soundbars via Bluetooth without a Chromecast attached??

They will now send sound to external Bluetooth speakers so should do, yes! We have ours sending to a Bluetooth to phono adapter and then in to our living room amp for better sounding music.
If it was Chromecast Ultra 4k , I would have voted hot. This model of Chromecast is 3-4 years old. Just Checked . No discount on Chromecast Ultra.

Always seems to happen, after I've purchased! I bought a Google Home & Chromecast last month. I had a look beforehand and no deals! Lucky people, getting a great deal

There is a switch on the bottom of the mini to turn off the microphone and you can just use your everlistening phone to control speaker output if you want

They already have that, its called chromecast audio.

Not an ideal solution though.

To enable this new feature, open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet, look for your device settings and then the “default music speaker” menu. There, you’ll now see an option to pair a Bluetooth speaker.

Since that Bluetooth speaker doesn’t have to be in the same room as your Google Home, you’ll now be able to extend Home’s multi-room capabilities to rooms that don’t have a Home in them, too, and play music or podcasts on all of your speakers and Google Home devices simultaneously.

Since that speaker doesn’t talk back to your Home, though, you obviously won’t be able to use it to give voice commands to the Google Assistant. But it’s probably good sound you’re after — not more Google Assistant mics in your home.

You're not gonna find these for sale on Amazon
Good deal, shame I have the Chromecast (superb) already and made the mistake of buying an Amazon Echo which quite frankly is appalling. Poor sound, gets pretty much everything I ask it wrong and sits in my kitchen as a timing device for cooking.

Anyone know if the deal would apply in-store too?

I just paid for 2 of each so not really expired.
I only got £20, so £59 for a Chromecast and Google Home Mini
the minis have just gone up by £10
Edited by: "sham0909" 15th May
yep deal expired, the google home mini is now £49.99 before any offers. So doing the offers now 2x mini and 2x chromecast comes out at £108 - still a good deal saving £50 overall but £20 more than it was earlier today
Looks like this is back on!

Save £20 when you buy a home mini and a chromecast. Looks like you can stack with £10 off if you buy two home minis too!!!
Right. That had never gone. The original deal was the same discounts with the minis @ £40 each. This is now £20 higher.
FYI the deal is actually back on now (minis back @ £40 each).
