Was looking for something to stop me using my phone in the bedroom and was surprised at finding this cheap price.

I'm going to link this to my Google Home.

And I really wouldn't mind if people could join me in doing this every other day if they buy one:

1) "Okay Google."
2) "Send feedback."
3) "LET US CHANGE THE HOTWORD! LET US CHANGE THE HOTWORD! LET US CHANGE THE HOTWORD!"

I think Google have suggested there will be the ability to change the hotword in the future.

For now you can use "Hey Doodle" or "OK Noodle" to mix it up a bit

Why would it stop you using your phone in the bedroom? Can it make calls and receive texts?

possibly means streaming as you cant make calls here yet
Nice! Was waiting for the 3 for £99 deal to come back again.. but this is probably better for what I need in the long run as I only need two and can't be a*sed to sell the third. Cheers OP, you're a star!
At last. £34 again :-)
Thanks OP, was after one of these after being disappointed by how frequently Alexa "couldn't find the query I wanted but the item was available on Amazon."
Was looking for a 3rd, good deal!

Fair point. It was the screen particularly that I was aiming to avoid - I tend to start reading stuff and it keeps me up! No self discipline

Shame it's only chalk at this price, but I'll take it! Heat.

+1 for custom hotwords too
Through vouchercodes, if you spend extra pound will you get the 5 voucher?
Thanks was waiting for these to drop again. Currently using Echo Dots from Boxing Day sales but fancy giving these a try for better information

Reminds me of when I used "sexbox on" to power on my Xbox One, simple minds
Pretty poor that it doesnt connect to bluetooth speakers like the dot does, as apart from that for my use cases its miles better than Alexa.

Yes, I can relate. So you are using this for streaming music, right?

They've hinted, but not confirmed. Until they say it's actually coming, I don't trust that this wasn't just for PR purposes.

You can sometimes say Hey Google or even Okay Dougall but it doesn't always respond to that. Vocalising (no pun intended!) the desire for them to do something about it via feedback is the only way to help make sure this happens.

I've got the same issue I use mine as an alarm as well, another reason that I would have previously needed the phone in the bedroom.

I was fine originally saying "hey google" so that it didn't wake my phone and tablet up at the same time. And then they let you say hey google to activate the phone too!
Still waiting for home calling that was supposed to come to the UK by the end of last year.

I’ve got both this and echo dot. Whole range of both actually bar home max not available in UK. This is nice if you have a Chromecast or Chromecast audio as you can set music to play by default through them but use voice on this to control it.
Also miles better then then amazon for asking questions but much worst for home automation from experience of both
I just picked up my two Minis and discovered that they don't have a 3.5mm out jack. I was going to connect this to my surround sound, damn it!
Just setone of these up in the bedroom, quite surprised at the sound quality ideal for listening to the radio while getting ready etc, the missus actually is getting hooked into it too, and she generally hates my gadgets

Now I have to set up Google home big brother in the lounge or kitchen

Yeah that's a pain you would have to connect a chromecast audio and stream that way
Typical! I spent my Argos voucher on a (admittedly cool) backpack yesterday!
Got one of these and it’s great.

The only reason Alexa is so popular is down to the fact that it’s a human name, and seems more natural to interact with.

For actual functionality it sucks unless you’re in bed with amazons ecosystem. Just as bad as Bixby imo.

The the only thing worse is Siri but that’s down to Apple not harvesting your data.
Just picked mine up, went to pay in store and the price was £50 so I had to go to the desk to explain. They honored it tho so just a heads up for anyone else.
Does the broadcasting function work in the UK? I’m tempted to add to my existing Google Home

Have both. Alexa is awful at recognising stuff that you say, we are constantly repeating commands. My wife hates Alexa as a result. It doesn't even take notice of my son. Google home is much better at basic voice recognition, so much better. It actually does what my son asks it to do. The mini has a better speaker compared to the Dot as well. Looks nicer than the Dot and has no branding on it, as opposed to the Amazon logo on the Dot. Irritatingly the white amazon dot has a black power cable. Why Amazon, why?

Wanted to add a Sensodyne toothbrush to my basket via Alexa yesterday. Took 12 attempts before it actually recognised what I wanted.

Disadvantages of home mini: No 3.5 audio output socket. Cannot stream to a bluetooth speaker yet. Cannot shop for you.

Yep, great for scaring the missus!

It's actually more of a microphone with AI and a poor speaker, hence pairing it with something better. If you dont believe me then check out the forums and you'll find a lot of people after the same thing. I have a soundbar that costs x10 as much but is currently dumb, with Echo dot I could make it smart. Also if it worked I could have multiroom which I cant do with bluetooth from my phone.

When the specs said it had bluetooth many like me assumed it would be bi-directional, hopefully its coming but Google should have indicated this on the spec and also give a bit better feedback as to when they will release these features.

Yep and I works from your phone using Google's assistant app too. Fun way to let your wife know you're on your way home.. Or scare burglars you see on your ip webcams

No two way communication, though
