Looks like minis are gonna be a thirty-fourer everywhere again. This is the only way to get the coral one I think, if that floats your boat.

Also normal home down to an eighty-niner

Edit... here's a few things I'm using mine for which may help some of you decide if it's for you:

Control colour of led light strip behind my tv with the Xiaomi Yeelight led strip. Around £25 quid from the usual Chinese websites...
m.gearbest.com/sma…BwE

Control the colour/brightness of bulbs
Several choices. Phillips hue are expensive and need a hub.
Xiaomi Yeelight are cheap buy take ages from China and only come in screw fixing.
These ones seem like a good bet posted the other day... hotukdeals.com/dea…136

Control any plug with smart plugs. tp link and wemo ones are about 20 quid each, but you can get cheaper ones like these. I got them for about 11 quid each on Amazon lightning deals if you don't want to wait for delivery from China
hotukdeals.com/dea…519

Tip: some things have good instructions for Alexander but not so good for Google home. When you got to search for the program to link your home to in the home app, try smart life for the above.

Say "okay Google, play songs by bewitched in the bathroom"
Using a chromecast, mini amp, cheap speakers, and streaming service like Google play (the best in my opinion) or Spotify you can basically replicate sonos but control it with your voice. I did a video here before I had my Google home, so it's just missing the "okay Google" part. Just search youtube for budget Sonos alternative

Other than that, you can control smart thermostats, set timers, ask about the weather, ask how long your drive to work will take, and pretty much anything you would Google.

Also quite funny if you ask it to tell you a joke. Or try "do you have a boyfriend" for some heartbreaking responses!

I agree with this. But same goes for Any Apple and Android device with Siri and Ok google which random starts listening. LG and Samsung’s smart TVs are same too.

You can use Chromecast to cast to your TV using these Google Home devices if that's what you mean.
My Alexa is pretty inaccurate. How does this compare?

If someone wants to listen to me playing Skyrim, asking what the time it is or the kids asking to listen to "The Poop Song" for the N'th time, feel free :p.

And it wasn't me making those strange noises. It was the "Spooky Ghost"

I have both the Amazon Echo Dot and the Google Mini. I've had the Echo Dot for about a year now the Mini for about 2 weeks. I had high hopes for the Google Mini but it's been a massive disappointment. I really thought it would have the edge for Google searches and on occasions it will beat the Echo Dot but on average it's as bad as the Echo Dot for saying I haven't got a clue but I'm learning. The Echo Dot as an overall package offers more, it has access to Amazon's shopping service and the huge amount of Alexa Skills. If I already had an Echo Dot I personally don't see much point in getting the Google Mini.

You can control the xiaomi smart bulbs just by using Google assistant on your phone. You just need to add it in home control settings in your Google account. You can then control the bulbs even when you are away from home

I've just discovered that you can reset the Alexa voice recognition, so any saved assumptions vanish. I'll give that a go!

Cheers for the feedback on the Google Mini.
For those who own both, how does this compare to Amazon Echo in terms of freely available music like radio, spotify, pandora (using VPN)... etc?

I don't have both, but I have tried Google play and Spotify. For me Google play is miles ahead and this only works on Google home. For example, if you ask it to play a song, it straight away play similar songs afterwards, whereas Spotify plays different versions of the same song. Also, Google know what you mean better. E. G. If you say "play so Sally can wait" it knows you mean don't look back in anger

The other big advantage for me is the Dot's ability to connect to any Bluetooth speaker. What a rip having to buy an additional Chromecast audio dongle to link the Google mini.

I haven't actually tried that, and in fact I hate to admit it but I didn't even know it had that feature

Anyway for others like me that didn't know, here's a guide how to do it >

Did you even read the OPs post?
This was one of the reasons we bought the Dot over the G- mini. It was also cheaper than a DAB radio and has excellent sound when connect to a decent bluetooth speaker.

You definitely can't connect straight to a Bluetooth speaker with the Google Home. You must have a Chromecast audio connected to the speaker.

Sound quality will be better over Chromecast/Wi-Fi than Bluetooth though, if you are connecting it to anything half decent.

It doesn’t really. The onboard computer is incapable of doing any more than understanding ‘Hey Google’ or ‘OK Google’, after which it sends a sample of the next thing you say to a far away supercomputer which handles the commands. Also, in the Home app, you can look through a whole history of activity and listen/read all requests made to your home. It’s all pretty transparent.

As a radio, the full size Google home has a really lovely speaker that blows away any DAB radio. We had a load of Pure radios of various models that have steadily been replaced by homes. We mainly listen to Radio 4 and 4 extra but music is great too.

The integration with Deezer is supposed to be pretty good if they ever get round to switching it on in the UK.
Thanks op. Already got two but useful to see what you're doing with yours. I'm only connected to google play and 4 chromecast audios (which all works really well I think) and my Tado thermostat. But interested in the Yeelights. Didn't really think about the strip lighting behind a TV but now you've pointed it out I'm interested!

Yeah I've had that. I phoned Google up this morning and they're escalating the issue and looking into it as they're not sure why I've had that email.

I think the guy said they had a few complaints regarding it.
