Google Home Mini Smart Speaker - Chalk - Refurbished FFP - £13.983543348.jpg

The Google Home Mini Smart Speaker is sourced from the Official Google refurbished program.
Start living in the future with the voice-controlled Google Home Mini smart speaker. The virtual assistant is capable of all sorts, so you can set reminders so you don’t forget your anniversary, and then ask for recipe suggestions when you’re struggling for ideas for a romantic meal.
It’ll stream music from your favourite services too - just ask for a bit of northern soul and it’ll start playing. Plus, if you connect to your smart home devices, you can turn down the lights with a simple voice command.
It will recognise up to 6 users, so just be careful no-one interrupts with some heavy metal.

Google
Google are bringing their extensive technological expertise to the smart speaker scene, implementing their search technology in the virtual assistant to provide an even more reliable - and natural - experience.

Command all your smart devices
Thanks to being compatible with a whole host of smart home devices, you can take command of everything from your lights to your television. Once you’ve connected the speaker and your compatible devices to your WiFi, you can synchronise them, allowing you to activate them all with a simple voice command. So just ask it to turn down the lights, turn up the heating and settle down for a movie marathon without having to leave your seat.

Keep track of your calendar
Let the virtual assistant keep track of your diary so you’ll never miss an appointment or a birthday again. Set reminders for anything you can’t afford to forget about, whether that be your anniversary or a hot date with the dentist. Or if you know you’ve got something important on at the weekend but can’t remember what on earth it was, as long as you added it to your calendar you can ask the assistant and it can tell you precisely where you need to be.

Music for any occasion
Thanks to the music features, fiddling with CDs or stereos are a thing of the past. Pair the speaker with your music streaming service and you can listen to whatever tickles your fancy. Tell it to play some blues for a chilled out evening in the week, or a party playlist at the weekend. If you find something new, you can ask what’s playing and then request that artist by name. You can adjust the volume, skip tracks, and pause playback with voice commands too, giving you complete control over your tunes.

Please note that this speaker is supplied in Frustration Free Packaging that includes a UK Mains Power Plug and Wall adapter

V1 has a usb power socket whereas the V2 has a proprietary power socket. Might matter if you're planning on powering from a port.

I have both and apart from the slightly better speaker on the 2nd version (Nest) I’ve encountered no difference performance-wise. You can also hang the Nest to the wall via a suitable hook which you can’t do with version 1.

I switch mine off via a smart plug when I’m making that noise.
Bought this a few weeks ago. Always says "There has been a glitch". Save your money and get a new one

Has anyone bought these before? Wondering if they're really "refurbished" or just opened returns/old stock etc

When you start to think "Oh, I could get one for the hall and the landing', then it's probably time to stop buying these.

You’ve answered your own question but just to add... I’ve found there’s even less sound quality difference between gen1 & 2 if they’re in pairs (as in 2 x gen1’s vs 2 x gen2’s).

Interesting! I'm actually really struggling to justify it - if I want 'stereo', I have a hifi (with Chromecast ), the minis are more for 'background' - kitchen, garage, summerhouse (posh shed ) - so really not sure that it's worth stereo, but that price is hard to ignore!
Received mine last week , works fine , came without box or instructions which isn't a problem now days.
Works absolutely as it should. It will play non subscription music such as the free version of YouTube Music, if you want better get a subscription.

I know what you mean about hifi, obviously no comparison.

For convenience and 'flow', I have pairs of these all over the house (only one in bathrooms just now). Listening to background music or radio is pretty cool.
You don't need pairs for that though so starting to think I might have a problem!!

Getting the kids up in the morning has never been easier.
Disable the mics in kids' bedrooms, get Google to play music in their rooms while getting breakfast ready.
Wish I'd done this rather than sign up to Spotify and get told my e-mail is on the way but it can take a few days... even though that was almost two weeks ago haha!!
You can get cheaper on ebay atm from people selling the free one they got from spotify

Yeah they're trying to keep me signed for a month no doubt.. I'm not silly. I got the Echo for 99p and a months music from Amazon and tbh I'll likely just keep paying for their services.. it's not as easy since all my playlists were in Spotify but hey, out of principal and for cheaper a month whatever hehe. Spotty did promise I've went through it correctly and on time however and I will get an email, but I'm doubting it..

I just had a quick look and the current listings are not cheaper than this. Also, the amount of listings saying gen2 but showing a gen1 is astounding!
Happily using gen 1 and 2 for past 6 months or so. No problems, no emails, ads or spam email. I don't really notice any audio difference, but they are in different rooms so maybe I would if they were side by side. I have grey and coral. I'd prefer charcoal but the light grey is okay.

Also have the Lenovo Google clock, which is probably my favourite smart device.

If they made a waterproof USB powered version for the bathroom, I'd be all over that! Right now I use a JBL Go 2, splashproof Bluetooth speaker, which is fine and cost £12 from Sainsburys when it was last on offer.

I'm not sure what the refurbishment process is, but mine came already tied to someone else's Google account so the process clearly doesn't involve resetting it. I factory reset it and set it up again and though the Google Home app displayed a warning that it wasn't a device sold in my home market (as it was reporting that it was a Canadian Google Home Mini) it behaves just like my other Home Minis.

it’s actually just an android based web browser that uses audio for the ‘get requests’ instead of plain text. Your web browser and smart phone both do a lot more spying than this ever could. If you think otherwise the you don’t understand the technology.
Rude not to at this price.
