Google Nest Hub £59 (£60 off)

7" touchscreen

Sometimes it's easier to see your schedule than it is to hear it. The Google Nest Hub has a 7" touchscreen so you'll be able to see everything in a single view, whether it's an upcoming appointment or your shopping list. Just like the other Google Home products, you'll still be able to use your voice to get things done too - your personal assistant is ready and waiting to help.

Voice match

Want to know what's going on with your day? All you need to do is say "Hey Google, show me my calendar". The Google Nest Hub has Voice Match technology, which means it can recognise your voice and display your calendar, reminders, commute and more on the homescreen.

You can do more than just see your information, though. Make shopping lists, see the latest headlines and even place calls to family and friends.

The Nest Hub is perfect for searching too, so you can ask questions and get visual answers from Google - perfect for finding recipes, looking up local businesses and learning how to do things.

Control devices

The Google Nest Hub is compatible with over 200 smart devices from over 50 brands, which means it fits perfectly into your smart home. Turn the lights on with a single command, or change the TV channel using your voice. You can even control your heating - it's compatible with Nest.

All you need are compatible smart home products and you're ready to start controlling everything without even touching a dial.

Play music

You're only a few words away from getting the party started. Use your voice to search YouTube Music for your favourite songs and bands, or even search for music videos. Log in to your Spotify account or listen to your favourite radio stations - there's something for everyone.

Relive your memories

See the photos you've got saved with access to Google Photos. Finding your favourite moments is as simple as saying "Google, show me my holiday photos" - they'll be displayed on the 7" screen.

First off, this has no camera (by clear privacy intent) so while you can see the other end, they can’t see you (a perfect arrangement for some) Lenovo’s wedgey thing has Google Assistant, a camera, a very slightly higher price, but reports of software problems.
Such video calls only use Google’s Duo app - available for iOS and Android, and on all Google’s Assistant devices. Naturally Duo can do voice-only calls too.

Alexa can call other Alexa devices or Alexa Apps. Or Skype.
Facebook’s Portal does WhatsApp and Alexa.

My elderly (and not very good at learning tech) parent finds a Google Hub to be straightforward to use for hands free calling - both Duo and phone (uk landline or mobile for free), though there is a reluctance to take advantage of auto directory enquires “Call Specsavers in Canterbury”...
Incoming calls (duo only) can also be answered hands free - convenient when mobility is reduced!
Duo call quality is impressively good.
It also makes a great photo frame and voice-controlled (even from bed) radio.

Main difficultly has been to get other family members to install Duo... Some people expect the elderly technophobe to be forced to learn how to fit in with their preferences...

Added- A Google account on a reasonably up to date device (Android or iOS) is needed to setup the users voice ID and contacts...

Would have gotten one of these for my mum, only she has an echo and would get confused working between the two

Good price, though ended up getting the show 8 for the same price

We've got two of the hubs and 2 of the Max, i'd only buy max going forward as the camera is handy to set to record when away from home. Will also come in handy later on in the year when the all you can eat Nest Aware sub goes live

They should price match Google, give them a call before and try it on.
Congrats on your first deal :-)
This deal has been live on the Google Store since before Christmas.

Anyway, it's worth pointing out that the Google Nest Hub(s) support a wider range of Google Assistant services than the other speakers in the Home/Nest range.

This isn't just about the screen availability but is also the case, for example, for language translation - the Hub supports a *much* wider range of languages.

It supports the same much bigger feature set as is found on Android/iOS Google Assistant.

It's probably for this reason alone a better learning resource for children than the Google Home/Nest speakers without a screen.
Congrats on your first deal, as well as an illustrious career for Club & Country @joao_moutinho7

Currys was £58.99 but now gone upto £69- as with most others. Only place I could find the hub for £59- was at Mr Central Heating.

Excuse my ignorance, but I presume you're not referring to the Nest Hub Max being able to record whilst away from home? Or do you mean it picks up when you're not home and auto-records using other Nest connected cameras? Intrigued by this as have the Max Hub, but didn't know this was a feature!

The nest home hub max has an inter grated nest indoor camera and with a subscription to nest aware it records and stores however many days you choose depending on subscription. As the new price plan covers as many cameras as you have for one price. So it’s a security camera as well

I've just been messing around with this, can't believe I didn't know about it! I've had it since release but didn't have a clue about the camera side of things, just thought it was for face detection for profiles and video calling. Might have to invest in a couple more now!

The nest cameras, while I agree are not cheap, are great and the new price structure imo make them better value. I have the doorbell, protects and thermostats and live then. They Integrate with google home really well (apart from the protects). Enjoy your new found addiction

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. Missed the fact this doesn’t have a camera - while I’m sure she’d prefer to just see me, it would be handy to be able to check in if we’re worried... I’m torn. This hub does sound good, but I’m leaning towards the Echo for its ‘drop-in’ facility which allows authorised people to connect via video without any input from the recipient’s end. I wonder if the Alexa calling on the Portal supports this, as I’ve been offered two bought from the deal on here at cost price. Never used any smart assistants before, so the advice is much appreciated

It also has an inbuilt camera that works as a Nest camera. There is a setting within the app home/away that you can toggle so that it only records when nobody is in the home.

The only snag is Nest has not installed a night vision mode so if the hub max is recording in the dark it will capture nothing.

My suggestion would be to get a Google Mini (perhaps under £20) and start there. Argos still have their 3x TP-link smart plugs for £30. Controlling those by voice, and the radio, and the voice-operated free calling should be enough to get the subject’s interest. Added - Mini can make and receive audio Duo calls as well.
Then you might consider putting a baby monitor camera on the WiFi network that you can access from out and about. The cost of about £25 will be less of a problem than the feeling of being spied on!

Because of the hands free calling, and the far-field microphones, these Assistants could be used to summon help in the event of a fall... these things are brilliant for the elderly.

Alexa got the boot from here a year or so ago because Google (at least then) was much much better at working out what was being asked - important when the user is reluctant to learn a single specific form of words!

Unless you have the device aiming somewhere useful the drop in thing might not be useful.
You might be better off getting a web cam you can sign in to over wi-fi. We have one mounted high up in our kitchen which shows some of the living room and only cost fifteen pound
