This has f all bass though, they only reason to go for a google one is if you’re anti amazon I suppose but the sound is superior on the dot

Do you mean Google Assistant vs Alexa, or are you talking about sound?

Sound
The Nest Mini sounds better than the original Home Mini (the first gen). I have both. If you have two, you can pair them up to give even better, stereo sound.

This one or the old one.

The 1st gen (google mini) didn't have much bass about it but the bass in the 2nd gen (Nest mini) is decent. I wouldn't say the "only" reason to go with Google is because you're anti Amazon, I went with them as they have a good product line that all integrate nicely with each other

2x 1st gen in a stereo pair sound great, I have them setup in my office at either side of my monitor, the sound is much better than 1 on its own. The 2nd gen is great on its own tho

I suspect the 1st gen as the 2nd gen is decent
Headphone jack? I want to smarten up a speaker..
I'm after one of these for a wall mount in my den... for mainly music/radio playback, we're in agreement that the Nest is better for sound quality than the Echo?

Thanks.

They don't have headphone jacks, you'll need a chromecast audio for that, then you'll be able to cast to it... It won't be "smart" tho as it doesn't run the Google Assistant, you'll need a smart speaker or phone to tell it what to do/play etc

Incorrect. If you have a chromecast audio, you can then ask your google assistant (on your phone, nest mini, etc) to play music on that speaker with the chromecast audio
I switched from Amazon to Google about 6 months ago. Very happy with it and these new minis are big improvements on the old one.

My switch was because of the assistant. The AI is not as good in my opinion. You have to very specific in the commands. With Google you don't at all. You can talk to it like a person and it gets it.

For me the AI is the important part. Google in my opinion is far better. I also think they look much nicer.

What I said was accurate, you've misunderstood it.
Right, so just to confirm, the Nest Mini isn't all that for SOUND, compared to the Echo Dot? I'm most interested in sound quality... I have a Google first gen next to my bed for alarms/as an assistant, which is fine. Sound (music) on that isn't great to be fair... But now I want something to while away (music) the Lockdown hours in the garage/den whilst I throw a bit of tungsten

You can tweak the sound profile within the Google Home App by adjusting bass & treble levels.

Don't expect miracles, as the speaker is an omnidirectional design and as it's pointing upwards, it can sound a little muffled when listening to talk radio stations.

Whilst you're at it, have a look at the KiWi rechargeable base that will allow you to use the Google Home or Nest mini without being tethered to the wall.

Thanks! No, that's fine. My Mum has the Echo Dot (2nd) and the Echo and the audio/music playback on those is excellent, out of the box. My bedside Mini is okay for alarm, reminders and weather etc. but audio playback definitely isn't as good as the Amazon offerings...

I think I'll take a punt, it'll be wall mounted

Yep.
I have had no issues ordering from them a couple of times.

Plenty of others on this site have also claimed similar experiences.
