may be you can buy 12 Nests
Not sure if I should buy now or wait until I need 1. The bulb could be handy.
Is £15.99 a good price for the bulb on its own? ( I can't be bothered to look. The Google nests are £19)

No, this is a Nest Mini 2019 (not a Home Mini) and the cheapest deal yet has been £29 for one. An e27 / B22 Hue Bluetooth white ambience bulb is around £24 for one. The real deal here is the combination of 2019 Nest Mini (£29) with colour hue bulb (£45!) For 54.99 as a bundle

What’s the difference between a neat mini and a home mini?

It seems better base and one more microphone than home mini

Doesn't it also have aux out? Nope, no 3.5mm out which I remember being talked about a lot when these were first announced. Google missed a trick there especially after discontinuing the CCAudio.

Not much at all. Little bit more functionality and a cut out on the back so you can mount it on the wall. It's really just a newer model, replacing the old one at the same price point- the older ones are just cheaper because they've been superseded.

- Sightly better sound / bass
- One more mic
- Two more LED indicators that light up when you touch it so you can better see the volume controls.
- Wall mountable with a single screw

I will be honest though, the sound on something this small ain't ever going to be nothing majorly exciting. The mic on the original Mini was actually really good anyway even with lots of noise or music playing in the back ground. The additional LEDs on the nest version over the original mini is kinda Meh!

Nothing exciting!

You can get an Amazon echo dot and two white hue bulbs here for £31.99 or £61.99 with RGBW's

I don't think you will need 12 e27 lamps, unless your kitchen is gigantic
You can easily buy a hue compatible controller or switch.
How long has everyone had 1 in use for and have you had to replace it ?

I'd guess it's gu10s. 12 seems reasonable

That’s obviously what you do! Replace the thing (the switch) that controls all 12 existing bulbs not all 12 bulbs (unless you want discrete control).

Does the Hue bulb here need a controller hub still or is that an old way of doing it?

Hue hub is good idea anyway. It is not expensive and Zigbee is just much more efficient for this application than Bluetooth.

Yes, so are you saying you need a separate hub? Did you mean Wi-Fi? I haven’t seen any Bluetooth bulbs that’s why. We have some Kasa and EufyHome Wi-Fi bulbs as well as a Sengled set with a hub (which I assume is ZigBee as they normally are).

Philips now do Bluetooth bulbs and the ones come with this are Bluetooth. So you don't really need the hub.

Sorry, maybe I’m behind then, so what provides the Bluetooth link - is it the Nest Mini? And I guess that’s shorter range too?

Had a quick check About the new bulbs. It seems they have both Bluetooth and connect to hue facility. So you can control from your phone through Bluetooth and also hue bridge.

I meant Phillips Hue hub for Phillips hue bulbs. New ones have Bluetooth and can work without a hub, but for anything more than a couple of bulbs - not great idea.
Can I use the nest mini as a chime instead of a hard wired one for my nest hello & does it “ding dong” or just give a notification?
Does anyone know if this is an all in one package or two separate boxes? Thanks

You can use it instead of a hard wired chime, I have my chime turned off and just use the Minis to notify me, it announces that someone is at the door, don't think it makes a noise but I can't quite remember.
