Google Nexus 5 - 32GB - £240 via o2 Refresh [UPGRADE DEAL]

Found 1st Nov 2013
Just went for the o2 refresh for the new Google Nexus 5.

As part of o2 upgrades, they now price match other major retailers such as the Carphone Warehouse.

I pointed out that the Carphone Warehouse were offering this phone for free on a 1GB 4G Account for £32 a month.

carphonewarehouse.com/mob…6GB

The minimum 4G contact that o2 has is £22 a month, therefore to match it they gave me the £10 a month phone charge, and waived the £220 handset charge.

This means that if I now cancel my refresh contract I will have to pay the outstanding amount on the phone of £240 (24 x £10).

Bargain by my books for the next great handset.

note: the CPW phone is the 16GB version, however o2 never questioned this

Edit: Some clarifications below:
1. Phone o2 (free if your already on o2 "202)
2. Ask for them to price match the CPW deal at £32 for a free phone and 1GB 4G
3. o2 will match this deal by offering a "refresh deal" of £22 p/m for the tariff, and £10 for the handset with no charge for the phone
4. Get the phone, and cancel your contract within 7 days, opting to pay off the remained for the handset = 10 x 24.

Simples.

I hope this helps clarify.

Taken from o2 refresh FAQ:

What if I want to leave O2 and end my O2 Refresh plan?
You just need to pay off whatever's left on your Phone Plan. Then you can either sign up to a new plan, or leave O2. If you'd like to leave O2, after you pay off your Phone Plan, ask us for your PAC code or give us notice to cancel your account.

Can I settle my credit agreement early?
Yes. You can settle your credit agreement partially or in full at any time by giving us notice and making a payment on your Phone Plan. If you wish to settle early you should contact us on 202 free from your mobile for a final settlement figure and we can take your payment over the phone.

Pay & Go
Available for £549.99
In stock!!!!!!!!! Talk about artificial pricing!

So if im currently on refresh, can i get this at this price?

Original Poster

not entirely sure mate, you would need to payoff whats owed on your current phone.

Worth phoning and asking, its a free number to o2 upgrades.. 202

Yeah i understand that part.

Just wonder if i coudl pay off what i owe, then try and bag this at that price!

Original Poster

dont see why not.

I was considering the Galaxy S4 & LG G2 a while back, and from speaking to several o2 people, its clear they will completly match CPW and Phones 4 U on any published price.

The only why they can match the 4G CPW deal is by dropping the montly phone charge.

To be honest, I will probably keep the contract, but switch to a 3G tarrif within the next 30 days, meaning my monthly bill would be £22-£27 with a free phone

They wont do it, if youre already on a Refresh plan!

Damn!

Original Poster

Sorry to hear that mate.

sorry, can you expand. are you saying you've got the nexus 5 for free on a £10 a month contract? what allowance is this and what is o2 refresh?

sorry for being simple

Carl99 & Jimmy;

Just to clarify, an o2 refresh deal is a contract that you can cancel at any time, however will need to pay off the remainder of what is owed on the phone.

In this case, o2 have matched the CPW deal of £32 a month for a free Nexus 5 on a 4G deal (as the CPW was a 4G one).
The way that o2 have matched this is by dropping the handset repayment to £10 a month, as the cheapest 4G tarriff they have is £22 a month. Therefore I now have 3 options:
1. Keep the 4G contract at £32 a month for 2 years
2. Cancel the contract, and pay what is owed on the phone = 24 x £10 = £240 (and keep the handset)
3. Change my contract to a 3G one with 750MB of data for £12 a month + £10 per month for phone = £22 a month total charge

I hope this helps clarify.

total rip off and a con... you can cacel ANY contract when you like and pay it off, this is a rubbish offer!

I am as confused as you! Seems complicated but as I see it this isn't a deal, what OP has done is get O2 to match CPW offer (might be handy I suppose if you are already on O2)

It will be £10/month for the phone contract but will be £22/month on top of this for airtime plan (line, call, texts, data etc) as O2 split the phone and airtime plans out separately.

Unsure if he will be able to cancel the airtime to get the phone for £240, more likely stuck with a contract that will cost you £768 (£32 x 24months) in total.

It seems this is a real cold deal. He forgot to add the 219 upfront to the cost that end up the phone cost 459. It won't be 240 anyway, he chose to a cheaper 3G plan at 12/mth, that makes the cost 528 at least. Very Cold ~~~~~~~!

Very true, well said.

Wrong.

You don't have to pay all the contract off.

On O2 Refresh, you only pay the remainder of the phone off.

The monthly fee is split into two amounts.

Example: £12 for the tariff, £20 for the phone. You have 14 months left, you pay 14x20. Not 14x32

For classification of taking advantage of O2 Refresh please read tomwatts previous deal on the iPhone 5.

It works and only takes a couple of calls.

Original Poster

guys calm down.

Honestly this the last time I will post a deal...

1. There no upfront cost when they match the CPW deal
2. If you cancel a normal contract you need to pay the full £32 a month for 24 months. On an o2 refresh you only need to pay what is owed on the phone element, i.e £10 x 24.

Just called O2 refresh, they said they don't price match at all?

I have spoken with 5 + different people from o2 over the past 2 months, all of which have price matched different CPW deals (though chose to leave it for the Nexus 5).

my tactic is to say:

Me: I want to stay with o2, however The CPW is offering this phone at £x.
o2: Let me see if we can match that sir
A = Yes = Good
A = No = Can I please cancel my contract and speak to your retention team

If it goes to retention (which I have not had to do), they will always match these deals.

As this deal is being poorly received, I will expire it, as there is too many apple fan boys / people who cant be bothered to read.

It genuinely works, as I just got it exactly described as above, and hope that some others get the same great deal I got.

Its a shame that HUKD has turned into such a hostile environment fueled by fan boys / people to stupid to read a few words. Good luck.....

I'd give up djglenn1337, some people just can't be helped. At least a few smart folk will see this deal for what it is and benefit.

Can you do this in store? Bit worried calling and then being told they don't price match as I'm not with O2. Good deal but nervous to call aha

Stores can sometimes price match deals, however not sure if they would price match a CPW internet deal.

I wouldnt ask them to "price match" it in so many words, but would lead them by saying "I would like to join o2, but CPW are offering this deal, do you have anything similar in o2?"

Just my 2c, a I was already with them and out of contract, so not sure the rules of engagement if coming from another provider

Maybe you should put 'Retention Deal' in the title.

I was with them since the Cellnet days 15 years ago until they offered me rubbish retention last time round.

Best deals were the old 12 months upfront for £60-£100 a year. No data or cross network minutes back then though.

updated the title, however the thread seems to have gone past the point of repair.

Shame really, though on a positive note I got a great deal from o2 (for once).

May give this a go, got around 10 weeks left on my o2 contract...happy to pay it off as I've still got over half of the £200 o2 BB gave me...

No one seems to want £100 off the latest phone on the market.

10p off a dozen eggs and the site would've melted.

Tried upgrading (I have an early upgrade fee) but they said they only price match if you're due for an upgrade.

Should have asked for retentions then mate, as the person you were speaking to was an idiot.

I got offered a price match offer when I was still 10 days in contract 2 months ago for the Xperia Z1.

I find with o2, it all depends on the person your dealing with....its like a lottery

Good luck ollie, just say you want a Nexus and will go with CPW unless they can offer something similar

Astec

How long did you have left?

14 months

Just sat on hold for 10 mins at O2 sales to be told its 37 a month 3g contract and 42 a month 4g, 1 gig contracts.

Non retentions/new customer though.

Your choice if you want to bother waiting that long if your not aleady due an upgrade from them. Looks like I'll be saving 200 quid and getting the CPW deal.

Slim

Second time trying-- guy couldn't even come close.

It's an upgrade deal for retaining customers. Not new ones.

I spoke to them online.

I cant get them to match the deal because i was upgrading early/paying to upgrade. (Fast Track)

He did say he could have matched the offer if it was time for me to upgrade without (Fast Tracking)

I voted cold, and here is the reason:

I am on O2 and able to upgrade, and I spend more than 30 minutes talk to different O2 people, will not get this offer. They did offer a £32 offer which is:
we have a very good O2 refresh deal for £32 per month on 24 months contract where the phone plan of LG Nexus 5, is for £20 per month and Airtime plan is for £12 per month in which you will get 600 minutes + Unlimited texts + 750 MB 3G data + Unlimited O2 wifi.

No good

And insist on the £219.99 payment for upgrade to Nexus 5 (on the deal you have)

So it is only available to certain O2 customer's upgrade, I have give notice, and leaving O2, which does not trigger the deal at all I guess you paid a lot to o2 at the moment to qualify.
