Google Nexus 5 32GB £280 @ Clove

Found 8th Aug 2014
As of the 11th August we will have the SIM free 32GB Google Nexus 5 in both Black and White for just £280.

This is £59 cheaper than the official Google Play Store price!

£59 is a lot of money and could buy you a Qi wireless car cradle or a Qi wireless charging pad amongst other things.

So what do you get for £280?

Android 4.4 KitKat
Quad Core 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
2 GB RAM
8 MP camera with Optical Image Stabilisation
4.95″ Full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS LCD display
Corning Gorilla Glass 3
802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (dual channel 2.4 / 5 GHz)
Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC & Wi-Fi direct Miracast
4G LTE compatible
Qi wireless charging built in
Not a bad feature set and being a Nexus device you will also get all the latest updates as soon as they are available.

Not bad price, don't know what it means about the new price being £290 and there is £5 postage too

The only problem is it's pre-order so no guarantee they will get them (well, maybe a few) and you pay upfront. But if they are in stock after that date at that price then hot.

Old Phone - Nexus 6 imminent prob around but don't quote me £350 ish?

If this phone was around £200 then Yes but for me its price just doesn't cut it as a "deal'....

I can also buy the LG G2 for Less than this....+ the Extra £5 Delivery + the How Long do you wait for Clove s scenarios to consider....Too High Price. PS I love Nexus phones so not knocking the phone

hopefully this is a sign that prices on the nexus 5 will start to drop, not too fussed in getting the 16gb, but would want it for less than £250.

Mighty fine phone

Royal Mail Special Delivery £8.40
Interlink Express £6.00

I like everything about this device except its dull display, Google should push for AMOLED screens,

Display has very natural looking warm colours, I personally can't stand the saturation of AMOLED displays. But then again, it's a nexus device. You can change the display properties and give off an AMOLED effect

I won't quote you because you don't have any concrete evidence that it's just around the corner. If you do post the details because it's all just rumour.

I work for Google and have a nexus 6
let me tell you it has 16 quin core processors
it makes WOPR look like an zx spectrum
only downside is its cleverer than me and bullies me regularly

Recently sold mine. Bought it as an upgrade to my Galaxy S3, although it turned out to be a poor decision.

The battery is just awful and the display is (as others have said) quite dull. I also disliked the shiny black plastic bezel.

Other than that, it's a good phone, although I did prefer my S3.

I have Nexus 5 16GB. Brilliant phone, only thing wrong with it is no external memory capability. 16GB is easily used up but this 32GB would solve the problem especially at this price. OK Google!

Wait for the Nexus if you can. its due in a 2-3 months. Even if you want Nexus 5, still wait for the next one as Nexus 5 would get cheaper when the new one is out. Nexus are great, you get clean Android, no extra software. I have Nexus 4 and I love it.

It's sharp but lacking in brightness, the whites are warm and yellowish. Worse yet the screen auto dims very slightly even with auto brightness switched off. It's subtle but it does it.

Good deal for price.

Trouble is Google could do anything, they may not even bother with another Nexus. There hasn't been a Nexus 7 or 10 replacement when everyone thought there would be. Buy what you need today or just keep waiting for price to drop.

There was a new version of Nexus 7 in 2013 (though was still called Nexus 7). Google has always brought new products to market every year, and has definitely done that with phones releasing each before Christmas. So I am betting on a new phone in 2 - 3 months, which might still be called Nexus 5 but would be an upgrade to the current Nexus 5.

I would only buy a Nexus now if you definitely need one, otherwise wait for few months and you can save some money.

Stop chatting breeze.

Not sure the screen comments are fair. Any screen could be better and it's all entirely subjective.

I agree the whites are slightly yellow; but you only notice if you put it against another phone that has a whiter white. Otherwise you've no frame of reference and you just don't notice nor care. It has one of the highest PPI counts for the money and far far exceeds anything Apple have brought to market yet. If you want jet blacks go for a Samsung.

Having had the Nexus 5 for 9 months now, there's nothing truly disappointing about it. I've not filled up the 16Gb that's built in. The screen is as sharp as you could conceivably ever need. I can't say the battery life is awful, it's just standard. Lasts from unplugging at 7am until bedtime. Depends what you do with it. There's countless articles on the web about how to improve battery life; just a case of following a few guides. It runs like the wind. I'm actually unsure if I want to get a Nexus 6 if / as / when it arrives as this thing really does do everything well and will continue to for a year or two yet.

Perhaps the only annoyance I've had is actually with the soft touch back. I bought a Spigen case when the phone was new and it's sat in there ever since. Unfortunately, some bits of grit got in at some point, no idea how - clearly the case isn't very product-hugging, and the back is all scratched. Kind of defeated the object of a case I felt. Perhaps if the backing hadn't been soft touch, and instead hard metal or hard plastic, it might not have been so obvious.

Anyway bottom line; I recommend the phone. Not sure I recommend it at this price as it's due a replacement (probably) any time now, and so the 2nd hand market will be flooded, and new units will drop like a stone in price.

I kinda have to agree. No idea why everyone is moaning about the screen.
I've got a Nexus 5 and an Xperia sat next to me. On a white screen, the Nexus 5 is white and the Xperia is slightly yellow..

That says to me the Nexus 5 at £280 has a better screen than a £400 Xperia that's only recently come out into the high-end phone market.

Plus VAT taking it to £280...

Thanks OP. I've been on the fence for a while, but my Samsung G3 has really had it, so the time is now!

I've had both the Nexus 4 and now have the Nexus 5. Tbh the only 2 things I'd change is a longer lasting battery and a SD card slot, but overall I have no problems owning this phone. I find a USB OTG cable being very useful as it expands the storage.

There's a new version of Android in the works, whenever they've released a new Android in the past haven't they also brought along a new flagship phone to market?

They have and they will, but there's no confirmation of when, so it depends on your definition of imminent.
