And apparently the S10 will be out shortly after that. But then the Pixel 4 will be out so might be worth waiting for that. Or the S11.

Thanks for your facts-based, valuable input.

Typing this from my S8. It comes down to whether you want stock android or with Samsung s minimal bloatware and as well the android updates.
I'm happy with S8 and can't fault any..

Same. After recent deals for Pixel and Pixel XL thought XL2 would drop too. Still waiting...
yeah i was going to get one for my son and last month the best deal was £25 upfront then £32.99 for 9gb and unlmt mins etc. I was holding out for my contract to expire too so I could negotiate a better deal for 2 new contracts. Then 1st Feb hit and they sky rocketed. Hoping this is because they can then have them on "sale" again soon.
Does anyone know if that handset the comes with the '1 month only' contract is identical to the 'sim-free' product? I'm very keen on having an unlocked handset without any carrier-specific gumf.

From what I have read, its only EE that SIM lock the handset, if you get the 1 month O2 deal from CPW (Works out £604 if you cancel in month 1) then the phone is unlocked. There may be an O2 app on it, but you can flash the factory images straight from google, thats one of the major benefits of the pixels and nexus before that.

I am very tempted, I have a Nexus 6P at the minute, which I could probably sell for about £130 - £150, but the real question, the classic HUKD question is, do I actually need it?...
Does anybody know if I order it from Ireland how I can get it delivered?

Do you mean £534 (not £604)?
Pixel 2 can potentially be £484.

Get 1 month contract for £15 + £519 phone cost via Top Cashback £50.
(15+519) - 50 = 484

Near the end of the first month call O2 to get PAC code and move the number to any network. You can buy £1 sim in most supermarkets.

This is what I did last month. Cashback tracked at £40, later increased to £50 and now is payable

Does your S8 slow down every few months and you have to do a backup and reset to regain performance?

Nothing at all.. it's got a 64GB sd card in and works buttery smooth. Bixby and the button is disabled too. Can't complain any other than those two mentioned.

I noticed that too. I was watching the price at mobiles.co.uk, which went up £200 or something and also the in-store availability at CPW or Currys (I forget which one) fell away. Could be a pricing strategy, or maybe we're getting a surprise Pixel 2.5, like Oneplus did with the 5t, or maybe just supply issues, I suppose.
Any discount codes floating about?

I could understand the query if you didn't already have a S8 and couldn't decide which of the 2 to go for but if you have a S8 already, I can't see why you would consider spending £600 for another phone which is more or less on par with the S8. Unless of course you have money to waste.
^^
yeah so much. My missus has a new S8 and my son is getting the XL once it goes cheaper. I have an S7 edge and thinking "why am I not getting a new phone if my contract is up too". then my head rules and reminds me there is nothing wrong with my phone and there is no discernible benefit from getting a new one yet

Switched to regular Pixel 2 a couple of days ago from my S8+. Night and day. Much prefer it already. The experience just destroys Samsung's.

All CPW phones are unlocked
thats alot compared to the one plus 5t plus no headphone jack
Voted hot. Personally I've never paid more than £250 for a sim free phone, as I find at £250 price point the phone gives me everything I need from a phone. Each to their own though.
Thanks for the heads up, I ended up ordering the panda Pixel 2 XL.
I'll return the Huawei Mate 10 Pro I bought a few days ago, I can still return it for a full refund so the timing is perfect.

The Mate 10 Pro a gorgeous phone and the battery life is impressive, but I really want that stock Android experience, I'm not a big fan of EMUI.
I bought note 8 for £600 recently. Otherwise I would have been all over this deal.

I have a Pixel 2, this price is quite expensive, I would shop around if possible. You will lose money on this price in the future. Depreciation is bad on Google phones. The XL version has an inferior LG panel. The non XL has a Samsung AMOLED Panel. This is by far and I really mean very very far ahead of any other Android smartphone I've owned. Incredibly quite boot time, 10 seconds maybe, I haven't timed it. It feels around that sort of time. My previous two phones are Xperia XZ and Samsung S6. It wipes the floor with those phones.

Pros:
Extremely Fast
Best version of Android and integration of services
Squeeze to bring up Google Assistant - Can also use voice same as any other Android phone that supports Google Assistant
Updates - Guaranteed latest Android version wtih latest security updates

Cons:
No 3.5mm headphone jack
Screen is AMOLED
No SD Card Slot
Price has gone up!
Can buy used for around £379 if you look around.

Despite this - having owned all the 2017 Galaxy devices and currently owning a Pixel 2016....I’d still rather have a Pixel 2 any day of the week. I must be mad

I sold my nearly new Duos model for £560 recently so they can be picked up second hand for around this pretty easily. Unless this is a new price from somewhere, though that would surprise me.

Interesting post, did you not try changing the launcher on the mate 10? I couldn't decide between the mate 10 and pixel 2 xl.

After buying the mate10 in the resent price drop, I wouldn't swap it for anything.

Are you suggesting the Pixel is a slow device? It's known for being the smoothest experiance you'll have on Android.
