The Google Pixel 3a XL is discounted by google - currently £50 off bringing price down to £419 from the regular price of £469.

However Amex have an offer in app where you get £75 back when you spend >£375 on a Pixel 3a. Bringing the price down to £344 for the XL model. That’s an amazing price for that phone.

This'll edge it for the camera and software I think. The Honor for gaming and storage.

Wouldn't help me, I usually carry around 50gb of music on my phone. My ideal phone would have this camera, that storage.

8/256 sounds like specs required in your case

128gb would be enough, especially if it has an sd slot. I'm at about 70-80gb total across my phone and card at the moment iirc
Currently use a iPhone SE, I have a £250 off £725 spend with my Amex so would need to buy a case & 2 x 3a one for me & my son.
Is is this a good phone to get at this price?

If you love taking pics, definitely
mad56979723/08/2019 10:58

What about normal day to day use?

I don't own it, from what I've read it's very smooth and optimized, unless you're a gamer I don't think you'll notice much of lag

Maybe owners can provide some feedback

The cheaper phones don't include that offer of Original quality, only on the expensive Pixel 3 range. However you can still upload High Quality for free with Google Photos, videos are capped at 1080P and Photos at 16MP I believe.

Bought this phone as a gift for family and it's very good for the price. Outstanding camera (especially given the price), great battery life, very smooth UI, and no crapware as it's Google's Android. For ~£350, if you need a new phone and you're balking at the price of flagships, this is a solid choice.
Brilliant camera... I've owned this and photo quality is outstanding considering price point..go for it
That's annoying, mines spend,£750 get £250 back, could get an XL and a regular for £520, cba to sell one though.

Makes the phone you keep a heck of a lot cheaper though
If you dont have the AMEX offer there should be a few cheap ones going spare on Ebay!!.
I bought the XL and the 3a with this, and resold them, easiest £150 profit I've ever made. Pop them on gumtree and facebook marketplace to avoid fees.

Not for you!

The SE has a faster processor than the pixel 3a, by quite a margin (see notebook check for a comparison).
The only upgrade is the camera and battery life, but you'd be better off getting a small portable battery and sticking with the SE imo. If you really want a better camera, spend that £300+ on a camera, it'll blow away the pixel 3a and you'll still have a great phone

Which point and shoot camera (as simple as the Pixel) would you recommend for someone who has no idea what all the modes are and wants to shoot images spontaneously without having to choose a mode etc, for around £300?

Panasonic Lumix or Sony Cybershot, Gx800 will blow away the Pixel night and day and can be had for £250. They're remarkably easy to use, a child could work a Lumix.

I'm not a huge photographer myself, but have two close friends who are super into it (one makes money off his photos), the thing I noticed is that their shots on nights out, travelling, etc, were just incredibly high quality. So far beyond the best smartphones, and they're using cameras that can be copped for £400 for outings.

The thing is with a camera the lens and sensor size are king, not necessarily megapixels. A smartphone cannot compete with it's tiny lens and sensor, so produces inferior images.

Just do a little research into the Lumix range, find something within you're budget - you won't be dissapointed! I don't own one, but have seen what they can do on the cheap.

I can't see this in my amex app, where do you see it please?
I just checked. It was only open to the first 20000 cardmembers.
Expired deal.
