Can you still do this, I thought they put plans in place to stop this sorta thing, hence why these deals don't get posted anymore..

Have you tried this recently op?
Edited by: "MrSwitch" 22nd Oct 2019
Op have you tried this yet??? I'm tempted to try but after what @MrSwitch just said I'm second guessing
I did this last year with the 3XL and it worked
Doesn't say free Chromebook offer for this plan though? Have you tried this.

Unless something has changed this definitely works as it's still legal! I did with my pixel 2 at CPW last year.

Last year yes, when everyone was posting them as deals, I then saw a psot with countless people saying they'd stopped it this year.

Fair enough I still wonder what if the phone buyer from CPW who decided to genuinely cancel the contract for whatsoever reason, they should be well within their rights?

Surely the point is that CPW reserve the right to ask for the phone back when you cancel.

Nothing to lose by trying (maybe a month's contract payment) but you just run the risk of CPW asking you to return the phone when you cancel

Possibly, its not something I've ever tried, I did the 1 month a year or two back and that worked, but always saw the 12 month as a different ball game.
Assuming this is what they describe as a subscription service, the terms state:
4.3.2. If Subscription Services come with a minimum term contract, without prejudice to our rights in Clauses 1 and 4.1 above, we will not terminate the Subscription Services during such a minimum term.

The whole lot here:

OP, it does not state you can claim a free chromebook with this plan. Might need to amend your post.

This post reminds me of my Pixel 3 deal and boy did i have to field alot of comments then.

Google only require a purchase from an approved retailer AFAIK.

Haven't tried it as its a pre order, I will be though.

I only saw the deal and remembered last years deal with the pixel 3. I assume it works the sawm way, though you could be correct I simply don't know. Though there's no real risk as you still have 14 days to return everything if you really wish.

How did they change it so people couldn't do this anymore I have to ask?

Did not in your case. Can you guarantee that they won't to anyone thinking of buying this?

I honestly can't remember the thread mate, that's why I asked you
I'm not saying this won't work - I don't know. I also know that 12 months ago (which is a long time people) a similar offer did work. However I really go question the logic of why people think it will work - unless they are basing this entirely on what happened a year or so ago. As for this "legal" argument, no, stop - you're signing up for a contract.
There is an offer of a subsidised handset on the condition that you also take out a minimum-length contract. If you decide that contract isn't for you, an exercise the right to cancel within 14 days, then the entire contract is void - so the company have every legal right to ask for the return of the handset.
There is a definite "No, they won't ask for it back" based on what happened 12+ months ago.

I just don't understand the logic - it's like any other contract. I cannot buy something at a subsidised price based on a contract, cancel the contract and then just keep the item at that lower cost.

As I said, I don't know what will happen if people try this - but please don't go into it expecting it to definitely happen (based on year old experience) and certainly don't go into it expecting the "law" to be on your side.

Well if you read through my post, there is a shed load of T&C's which have not changed since... There are no guarantees in life apart from death and taxes so i cannot guarantee CPW will or will not ask for phone back. But you can give it a try rather than making an assumption.

They haven't changed a thing. People just do not understand or like scare-mongering.
How do these up front costs work? Technically can't you just buy the lowest up front cost option and cancel the sim?

It's okay switchy, I was just under the same assumption as last year, and if so, it's a good price and as far as I know you can claim the chromebook as cpw are a qualifying retailer for the Google promotion.

I could be wrong.

Exactly what I said - there's nothing to lose by trying but what I'm saying to people is don't come back complainin if CPW kick up a fuss

I am tempted...but the P30 Pro 100gb Three deal is also stalking me around the internet

CPW do not ask for the device back because you ring up O2 to cancel the SIMO tariff.

Fact.

Hope that makes sense.

Be interesting for someone to try it. Obviously requires some sort of credit check as well, so maybe make people ware of that as well.
tempted given the price but would rather wait for someone to confirm this works for this year's models.

It seems that before cotracts were SIMO (Sim Only) when buying the phone like this. Now CPW website doesn't say this.
38726778-EMTaY.jpgjust ordered however my confirmation email mentions this. Would that imply that it would be CPW handling the phone contract and not O2?

The 12 month contracts are sepreate sim only and sim free devices. You can cancel the sim and keep the phone as it's seperate, the 24 month deals are one package, if you cancel the sim you're required to return the device.
Ah thanks, how do I know whether they are separate?

I'd just stick to the 12 month o2 deals.

Anything else is doubtful.

In this particular deal, if you want to cancel the 12 Months O2 plan, would you call O2 or CPW?

you would call O2 with the serial number of the SIM I believe. No need to call CPW.

I'm not going to open my phone until I know for sure the SIM has been cancelled.
