Take a photo without the flash
Capture rich detail and colour, even in the dark, with the next generation of Night Sight.

Capture the cosmos
The camera that can take photos of the Milky Way.

Challenging shots made easy
Adjust exposure in separate parts of the photo and capture vivid colours, even with photos that you take in your favourite apps.

Focus on what matters
With a second camera lens, Portrait Mode is now even better. Backgrounds fade into an artful blur, giving photos a DSLR-like quality.

Don’t lose out as you zoom in
A second camera lens and Super Res Zoom make it easy to take high-quality photos from far away.

Better shots with friends and family
Frequent Faces learns the people that you photograph the most and captures Top Shot photos where they are smiling and not blinking.

Multitask like a pro
Simpler integration with your favourite apps means that you can control your phone with just your voice, so you can do more of what you want.

Get things done. No touch required
Quick Gestures uses radar to sense motion, helping you control your Pixel 4 XL when you’re running on the treadmill or enjoying your favourite meal without touching your phone.

Navigate your music
With Quick Gestures, a wave of the hand above the screen allows you to skip songs and navigate your music.

Snooze and silence
Quick Gestures also lets you snooze alarms and silence phone calls, just by waving your hand above the screen.

Face unlock for easy access
The Google Pixel 4 XL encrypts face data end-to-end via the Titan M6 security chip, which is secure enough for payments and app unlocks.

Yeah, it can also be boxed with some light cosmetic defect. Tbh it's a great price if you're lucky, returns are free if you buy online so no risk. If a store near you has it, maybe worth a look in the flesh.

It's a great phone, fresh in market, don't pay much attention to negative comments you see sometimes, I know I'd be blown away by this, even by a 3xl - love 2xl I'm typing on atm

One of the things I love about the Pixel 4 XL is you can use nightsight on the front camera as well as the back. Great for taking photos without a flash of me and the 6 month old having a cuddle. As far as I know most other phones can't do that. The fact crash detection has just been enabled in the UK is great too. Bit slow to enable the auto dark mode but it's here now and the ambient mode combination makes it really enjoyable to read on like my iPhone. Best implementation for me over the Samsung and Huawei I own. More time I spend with the Pixel reminds me why (along with OnePlus) they are best alternative to iOS when not buggy!

Lack of fingerprint reader makes this a no deal for me personally. I have apps which the Face unlock doesn't support and having to input a code each time and commit it to memory etc when I can just use biometrics instead makes it a bad experience. The camera setup on this phone is poor as well and no improvements in the camera hardware at all. I seriously wouldn't pay more than £299 for this phone. I'm keeping my Pixel 2 tragic battery situation phone running until the Pixel 5 appears. Google dropped the ball with this phone. The Pixel 4 is not about great hardware it's average hardware, you're paying for the Google software feature roll out exclusives. By the time this phone is £299 new I will have found another non Pixel phone to move to.

Pros:

Google exclusives:

Computational Photography upgrades
Call Screening - Call Screening - How it works
Crash detection - had a car accident? The phone can detect this and call emergency services
90Hz screen - well sometimes
Soli Radar - Cool idea, software updates are starting to make it maybe even useful

Cons:

Loads; average hardware, lack of modern camera setup, same old camera sensor, 90Hz is only 90Hz sometimes or when it feels like it. No fingerprint scanner and proprietary Face unlock which Google haven't even bothered to try and make everyone adopt. Soli Radar. Massively overpriced when new, incredibly overpriced even. At half the price it's still can't compete on hardware terms with many devices. This phone has an unbalanced software / hardware ratio. The software is the best on Android but the hardware is just average. No phone exists on Android with the best of both worlds and perhaps won't exist until Google change their thinking, which considering their track record as a software company is a big fat NOPE NO WAY.

I need to lie down now (actually it's a bad idea as I have vertigo) because I hate this phone and it's bad to hate inanimate objects. Does anybody have any squirrels to feed? I have nuts! (you can use this last sentence to your advantage if you want to discredit anything I've said )

I'm waiting for the Sony phone pricing to emerge and they are doing something different this year, they also have fingerprint scanners and hopefully they work this year which will be a bonus. Lock and load Switchy bring us the Sony deals when they release

I mean bar NatWest and PayPal everyone of my apps automatically logs in or autofills from chrome so can't say I've had much of an issue. The few times I've had to do that in a day far outweighed by automatically getting to home screen thanks to Soli Vs iPhone having to swipe up and fingerprint sensors. Plus I'd literally only trust soli, face ID and physical finger scanners security wise.

Natwest, Paypal, Authy, Hargreaves Lansdown, there's some that don't work with Face Unlock on Pixel 4. It's a drag having to type in a password or code or login credentials versus the ease of using a Fingerprint login.

Only use two of those and never even heard of the others. Seem pretty niche!

Nah they're not and they matter to me, so that's just one of many reasons why this phone is a dud.
Does anyone know if I buy a used pixel one do I get free original quality photos for all my devices or just the pixel? Surely it's the former given a pixel only has a certain life.

No but you don’t get that with the Pixel 4 anyway and it’s only from the device. TBH unless you film a lot of 4K video I never really saw the point.
