Instructions
Click on see our built in plans, see our plans, then choose this plan (1GB At £10p/m) Then head to checkout and apply the code 50GOOGLE

Reduced, now £285 with code

So being an o2 refresh deal, you'll have to go through a credit check, and as I always say, if you don't have a great history, or have a big purchase coming up (car mortgage) whereby you want the best chance of getting them, then don't go for this, if not, then this is £115 odd off MSRP.

So, instructions I hear you ask:

➡ Click get deal
➡ Scroll down and click on "see all of our pre-built plans"
➡ Scroll down an click "see our plans"
➡ Scroll down to the 1GB Data option for £10p/m, click on choose this plan
➡ Then proceed through checkout

Once at the final stage of checkout, you will see the enter promo code, enter the code 50GOOGLE, it'll take £50 off, then pay

Once you receive the phone and sim either PAC or STAC your number out straight way, you may be charged that 10 quid, if you are, ring or live chat to ask for it back as you haven't used it.

Get deal links just coming back to this page for me ? Can I clarify so I take this and then the PAC/STAC bit I don't get who I'm asking for that / what they are exactly in this scenario. I've had a pac code before ending a monthly virgin to switch my folks to smarty . So would I be asking for a pac from my current network to port onto this or other way around and does that mean I'd need a number change.. its early in the morning for me and I'm not quite with it yet so may be sounding like a bit of an idiot right now

Once you receive the sim, Get a PAC Code from your new sim, then use that code to transfer to a free PAYG sim etc.
You can get free sims from tesco mobile for example (edited)

Felt the need to comment for the first time in a long time
    DON'T GET A GOOGLE PHONE.

I've owned all the early Google Pixel and Nexus phones and was amazed by how good they always were. They maxed out around Google Pixel 3/ 3a. Since then the quality and performance has gone backwards versus the market.

The camera used to be better than iPhone, the speed was quicker than iPhone, and any other Android didn't come close without paying x2 the price. There was no comparison. Convinced a lot of friends to switch to Pixel range.

Now, I've been tricked with Pixel 4, Pixel 4a and Pixel 6. Especially the 4a model - the worst phone I've ever had. Constant software conflicts with Google's own apps and forever crashing Whatsapp or any software which needed the camera. The software was slow and just sluggish overall and felt cheap to handle and the camera was just ok. Was so concerned I got a bad phone, I spoke to Google and their customer service blamed me for how I use my phone. I asked (while phone was still like new) for a replacement even to test. They refused and said they would take the phone in to look at but if they didn't see anything physically (hardware) wrong with it, they would just return. My guess is they know the operation of the 4a is so bad for everyone, they can't handle the amount of return requests they have as they are duds as a phone range. This is in comparison when I had an issue with the first Pixel phone and their customer service was great to deal with.

Next Pixel I got after that was the 6. Should have learned my lesson but was still a fan of Google. Returned it within the time limit. Big, heavy, awkward, badly designed, again slow and sluggish. Not nice to use at all.

The 6a can't be anything but worse than the 6. And if it is as bad as the 4a - I say now, save yourself the hassle.
And yes, all friends have now switched away from Pixels back to iPhones or Samsung.

And what is better? I'm not an expert but the Samsung range has impressed after moving from Google. The S21 is much superior in every way. Also tested the A22 and S20. The S20 has some manufacturing faults in the range and would avoid.

Xiaomi are very bad for software - for a cheap phone they are ok but would rate it as worse than any of the Pixels. But I'd still rather test a more expensive Xiaomi to compare it to the 6a for example.

Google have reaped what they sowed. They stopped pioneering fed us bad phones while increasing the price.

Seriously, don't get the 6 range (edited)

The sale may be off but long live the sale as the code still works GOOGLEPARTY24 for 20% off.

To be clear, the Google Store sale price is £319.20 and is only better than this if you have for example a Pixel 3a (£150) or 4a (£200) to trade-in and if the trade-in works out. (edited)

Pixel store has a sale on starting tomorrow. I wonder if they'll drop the price down this much?
    MrSwitch's avatar
    MrSwitch Author
Highly doubt it, but never say never
  9. p3108's avatar
    p3108
Let's say for argument's sake that Google Store has 20% off tomorrow on RRP of £399 = £319.20. If you have a 2TB Google One Plan you then earn 10% back in Store Credit to be used on other purchases. If you factor in that 10% Store Credit that comes to £287.18.

£285 upfront and cancel the SIM under 14-day cooling off period = no brainer for this phone.

Only argument for Google Store is the £150 trade-in on 3a or £200 on 4a IF they do value it at that as some have experienced issues and rejections.

PS Google have mucked up my 2TB One Plan and my benefit ability to earn 10% Google Store Credit disappeared a month ago and they still can't sort it out. They're useless. (edited)

Could be worth checking TCB too for a little extra if you are planning on keeping the SIM a few months (though I think 6 months is minimum).

The total price is good but need to decide if you want to potentially battle with O2. Last time I tried this they worked out what I was trying to do and prevented me from cancelling, I did get it done after calling back but it needed 3 more follow-ups as the cancellation didn't go through properly with my account still left active. The time before that (think it was a Mi Mix 5G), they sent me a clearly used phone with accessories in the box missing and it took a lot of effort to get a refund for it, they insisted they never had it back even though tracking shows it did.

I'd probably do it again if I had a few months window to bridge, but not if I had an immediate cancellation as they really don't seem to like this.

In case you are on Three PAYG like me, and want to use STAC to cancel the o2 line. Three's website is horrible, and their CS is useless, but I eventually got it figured out. The link to submit STAC is below

Wow - they'll be giving these things away soon!

I did look into the 6a previously (have 4a) but losing the free photo storage was the killer for me and the reviews were off-putting too. You'll also lose the headphone socket if that matters to you. (edited)

    Last pixel I had was a 3a
And beyond the Tensor stuff. I don't see how much more I'd benefit from this... But I still want it.
Maybe I can buy it and use it for a week or so and return it. Maybe that'll satisfy me

For 200 more or less you can get a poco f3, which I consider better than this in most except the camera. If you really want a good camera around this price and don't mind average/above average everything else get this

Think you've created your own plan and there may be an additional £1.25 per month fee for the phone - and the airtime plan is linked to the phone plan for 2 years. So not sure if that works well or not. The original deal involves selecting one of the pre-packaged options for £10 per month 1 gb tariff.
