Just seen this deal on Laptops Direct and thought it seemed a pretty decent deal, especially considering it is guaranteed updates for a minimum of 2 years after release and will get the new Android 9 when released and security patch updates for a further year.

Purchased a few refurbished phones from Laptops Direct marked as "A1 Pristine". and they are usually brand new phones with all the accessories in the branded box (despite them saying none will be included and will come in a generic box), but from experience, they appear to just be returned phones by the previous buyer person as they've changed their mind, and this company checks everything is working and sells it on.

The Pixel Phone is supposed to have a very good camera too.
(Probably won't match the very latest phones.)

It was considered a flagship phone in November 2016, when released and was selling for around £600(ish).

Be aware this is the smaller 5 inch Google Pixel phone for £249, but has very much the same internals as the Pixel XL, which has the larger 5.5 inch screen!
If you want the larger 5.5 inch screen this is available on the Laptops Direct website for £299.

Is there any possibility that any of these could have had screen replacements?

If can never be ruled out on a refurbished phone, but these are stated to be in pristine condition.

So would expect these just to be returned phones, where the customer has changed their mind after buying it. So very likely it will probably not have been used.
It states it comes with Coning Gorilla Glass 4, so if it has been replaced, it would have to have been replaced like for like, or they would be mis-selling the item.
Yes, true. Good point.
Not sure if this is a better deal than this what I picked up last week
eglobalcentraluk.com/
I also paid £5 for shipping but still think it's worth it as I got a 128gb version for £321 not the first phone I've brought from eglobal either as I brought xiomai phones from them in the past without any problems

I had a grade C Pixel 2 for this price, double the storage as a result. Only faint scratch on the glass, nothing else and had original box and accessories. I obviously struck lucky with that.

I find the screen to be pleasant enough to view content on, speakers aren’t amazing but they do the job and can get reasonably loud. Though they obviously don’t portray bass like the boom sound speakers. Battery life sucks though. Honestly it’s not even worth the software support. My battery life isn’t even as good as on 7.1.2 nougat. How in the blazes could they achieve this with Oreo I haven’t the foggiest but just a warning that software support isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Google assistant is pretty good and far better than Siri for getting stuff done. For instance if I want to play a playlist through Spotify, I’ve got a much greater chance of Google assistant doing that then Siri.

I do have to warn you that the top glass panel on the back is brittle. I didn’t even drop mine and there’s a crack straight done the middle. Buttons are nice and tactile as well. Camera is sensational. I challenge anyone to find a better camera for this price. It’s not humiliated by the latest and great phones nearly 3 times the price.
I dont know who google gets to make the pixels but if its LG i would avoid them like the plague i had a nexus 4 and it was nothing but problems the nexus 5 was too

The pixel is a great phone with a phenomenal camera. Check all the reviews. They can't all be wrong.

I'd recommend reading up on the common microphone issues before getting one of these.

Had one which failed and in all fairness Google replaced it rapidly, but the replacement fell foul of the same issue within a month (no exaggeration!) so had to go through the rigmarole all over again!

Had one of these before replacing it with the Pixel 2 a couple of months ago. Never had any issues - screen is nice and can be switched to SRGB if you want to lower the saturation. Camera still one of the best out there, speaker is mono but sounds every bit as good as any other mono speaker phone out there - nicer than the Galaxy range from last year, certainly.

Feels solid and well made, and I believe it is - although every phone has its share of horror stories so you can't always believe the negatives you read - eg people don't tend to post that their phone *hasn't* had an issue on forums.

Wow - cheap phone - these have tumbled in price last few months - is it the battery life or software ? Who knows - super cheap for what was a flagship handset
Hold out for a Pixel 2 if you can. I recently got a Pixel 2 at the same price as this. Better battery life and camera, waterproof, longer software updates (still another 2.5 years of support), bigger storage (64GB as standard), better speakers.
I got pixel 2 for £249 from same retailer and it was grade A condition. I did not like it and sold it to Cex for £343 voucher. HTC U11 is better phone overall than pixel 2. If you install google camera in U11 then no difference in camera . I made thread on XDA about photo comparison of these two . Camera and IP rating is same and rest everything else is better in U11 i.e design, screen, sound, storage, battery etc.
That’sthere is low level optimisation on the Pixel cameras beyond the app itself. The Pixel APK makes a massive difference to cameras that support it but it doesn’t make any Android phone as good as the Pixel 2. The U11 has a really good camera anyway but the Pixel 2 is still better.

I have had my Pixel since launch. Used to get 1-1.5 days of med-high usage. Now lasts up to 1 day (Expected from battery degradation) You probably have some rogue apps on your phone.

I’ve looked in battery usage and everything looks as one would expect in there. I don’t have any of the social media apps like Facebook on there either.
Whenever someone posts a phone up people post up how awful it is. How are we non techies supposed to pick a phone.

I bought a Samsung A3 2017 and reading these reviews it makes this seem better but pixel looks a nice phone and not large

Pixel 2 is made by HTC with a Samsung screen and Pixel 2 XL is made by LG with an LG screen.
Got my grade c pixel 2 XL from them last week for £340. Came boxed with all accessories and only had light scratches which could only be seen under a light. If that was grade c then there grade b or above is probably mint

Pick one you like the look and price of. Seriously.

If you don't have specific requirements, basically any modern phone is going to do you fine. what a lot of tech nerds (and I include myself!) often forget, is that 90% of people just use their phone to mess around on Whatsapp, Facebook, and take the odd sna, with no concern about benchmarks, timeliness of updates, or being 'stock android'..

Are you going to blow up your photos on to a massive canvas? If not, a mediocre camera is probably fine. Do you play the latest and greatest games and insist on close to instant loading times? No? you probably won't notice not having the very fastest SOC then.

Basically any phone that isn't some no-name Chinese POS is fine for the majorty of people. If you don't care about the specs, you could do worse than picking out one you think looks nice.

This is true. Only you can decide which camp you really fit into in terms of needing to have the latest and greatest or specific requirements because otherwise most phones will do the job and do it well. My father's Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 cost me £130 and its incredibly good value for the money. Big battery which with the mid range specialist processor for sipping battery gives simply unrivalled battery life, decent enough screen to view content on, can't see any pixels at 1080p, google services as well and a metal chassis to boot. Its impressed me to no end even as a techie and made me re-evaluate just what makes my iPhone X worth nearly 6/7 times more than that aside from a fancy camera and integration with my mac.

You're mistaken (in my opinion and from my experience). I've tested the app on multiple devices - including a U11+ and whilst the app makes a significant improvement it does not make it a better camera than the Pixel 2 - which still exhibits better dynamic range due to its low level optimization and the fact that the app was built for the hardware. The page you linked to demonstrates that, to my eyes at least. Those photos also don't factor in focus speed, shot to shot time or the overall consistency of photos in a variety of scenes - such as backlit subjects.

Portrait mode is also significantly better on the Pixel 2 as all the G Cam ports are just using the mode from the Pixel 2s selfie camera, so depth analysis and edge detection is inferior and it only works when a human subject is detected.

Your opinion is your opinion though, so I respect your choice. Personally I think the Pixel 2 is a lovely device. I haven't tried a Pixel 2 XL. I'd still use a 1st gen Pixel quite happily as there is very little to complain about.

So right. I got this Samsung a5 2017 suite me fine. I just use it for Facebook and pictures of kids but I did like look of pixel and thought it was good price here and then people saying how bad it is. I never know what they mean by stock android. Lol
Never handle it, follow the charging instructions to the letter. It will still die one day out of warranty.

Everyone has their own requirements, the fact is the Pixel is a great phone. There are enough reviews on the web to back this up. If in doubt go in to a Currys and try some devices out, then go and buy it from a proper retailer who adheres to customer laws...

When seeking opinions on forums though, exclude the chaff by applying a troll filter. If someone is talking generic, unsubstantiated trash, they are trolling - and so should be ignored.

Todays trolling has been brought to you by yoyo59.

I currently have a pixel 2 and was gonna get the wife one also but their prices seem a bit much at the minute (even the cheapest contract), so was looking at getting myself one of these and give her the pixel 2. Is there much of a difference between the two ?
I ordered one on Friday, it arrived on Monday - which was a great start as I'd opted for the no rush free delivery. It was in pristine condition, no marks or scratches, however when I set it up last night I found a clear hardware issue with the sound. No sound at all (unless you have headphones in), including ringtone, alarm, media and no use of the microphone.

I'm going to give them one more chance and get a replacement, but thought I should comment in case anyone couldn't be bothered with taking the risk!
