what would you recommend in the £150-200 range?

If you want a really budget phone the Xiaomi Redmi range is probably still the best cheap phone, you can one for under 100-120 quid and they're decent, they won't wow and they aren't that great for 3D gaming, but for decent performance, thin metal design and general good quality, can't go wrong for 100 notes.

If you move up you have the Mi5 at under 200, that was my old phone, highly recommended. Gave mine to my gf as it's miles better than her old HTC.

Or you have other brands like the Lenovo Zuk Z2, a good phone, with few complaints, good RAM, fast processor and high storage. Looks quite nice too, not as premium as Mi I would say tho.

For a phablet you of course have the Mi Max, or a variety of of other Chinese brands offering 6+ inch screen phones, for under 200.

If you want to get something in this country then I would say perhaps a high powered affordable Moto, an old iPhone on O2 Refresh, or perhaps a Warehouse deal on a last gen Samsung, Huawei or HTC.

My best advice however would be to future proof yourself, find an extra 100-150 and get a Xiaomi Mi 6, as that'll cover you for a good few years. It bears the S8 in tests, Oneplus 5 were proven to be cheating on theirs, and it's still 100-200 quid cheaper.

If anyone else wants to ask questions feel free to PM or ask, hope this helps.

I have the Xiaomi Mi 6.

Snapdragon 835
6GB RAM
Android 7
Dual cameras
Amazing portrait mode (it is amazing)
Really nice curved design
£100 cheaper than this

Buy using PayPal and you're guaranteed if anything goes wrong

Buy using eglobalcentral (bought 3 phones from them now no issues) and you'll have your phone within a week

No brainer. I am so tired of the overpriced crappy UK phone market. They're all made in China anyways...

I don't understand why the have 32gb as an option. I would even argue why have 64gb. With higher pixel photos and 4K video recording, hd games, it's clearly not enough storage.

Good phone for around 250+, obviously out of the other person's 200 budget, but an 821 with 4GB Ram, good amounts of storage and a curved screen. Essentially it's an S7 for 100 quid less than a Samsung.

Good option if you want a curved phone and a good price for an 821 phone considering the price of other options like the G6.

You're not covered if there is an issue with the phone via your credit card company if you purchase via paypal

If you are going to buy from Eglobal - i'm about to too for my next mobile phone purchase if i can't get the cheap note 8 via Very - use WorldPay or similar. DO NOT pay for items via paypal as you lose most of your credit card rights.

A used Xperia XZ it has Snapdragon 820 chipset, so very close to the Snapdragon 821 in this deal, a decent 23Mp camera and Android 7.1.1 due to get Android 8 (Oreo) as well. I got mine for £169 (Grade C) from Smartfonestore in excellent condition despite the grading.

It is a very good spec for the money however dpreview aren't as made up as you are over the portrait mode, they say it's quite inferior to the iPhone 7 portrait mode >

Good question. My main issue with this cloud, the pictures and videos that are uploaded are not on your phone. So if when you have no connection, you have no access to them. I travel abroad a lot. Access to the internet is hard to get sometimes. Won't risk it. Has to be 128gb

whatever you have uploaded to google photo via pixel will remain there
and you couldn't upload any more at Original resolution using your new phone.

hands down the best phone I've eve used.
wish the battery could be better.
way more friendly to use comparing with Samsung S7 edge

I never thought I would consider buying a 32g phone without sd card slot. Coming from the Samsung note 4 with 128g micro sd, I bought the 32g pixel xl just because Google store all pics and videos for free on the cloud. So far I haven't had any memory issue. I have to say that I'm not a gamer. If you are, 32g may not be viable if you need to have 5+ heavy games installed...

I'm thinking of buying as a gift, not sure if it to wait for something else or go with this. Any advice?

I do download quite a few games, but I can live without them. But my issue is when I travel. I want to be able to access my pictures and videos at anytime. Some countries have expensive 4g tariffs and very poor connection. I don't want to waste my data browsing through my pictures or videos. For some, this isn't an issue. For me, it's a major issue.

You get free unlimited Google Photos storage when you buy a pixel. All those problems you're referring to are non existent.

32GB is still plenty for most people, provided you rely on your Google account to back up your photos and videos.

I buy 100GB of storage for photos off google at £15.99 a year and upload raw images from my standalone camera, whilst not a prolific picture taker, I have 79GB left after 6 months, how many pictures are you taking that require instance access in your travels ? Any pictures or video taken with the pixel get uploaded automatically but do not leave your device until you delete them so if your travelling you will still have the phone storage capacity to use. When you have internet access you can upload and delete.

just to be clearer, only the pixel will allow uploading of Original quality pictures and video. When your using another device any pictures / videos will be uploaded in high quality using googles algorithms which some reviewers say has no noticeable difference in quality. When you stop using the pixel and still use the photos app, your new pictures will continue to be uploaded. As a standalone app, google photos, whether a pixel user or not is a must have IMO

To my knowledge they don't do an XL no, however you can get the Mi5s Plus which is a competitor for this phone for half the price.

From someone who thought they loved 5.5+ phones (LG G3, OP2 etc...) I love the slightly smaller build of the Mi 6.

It makes it a one hand phone and it feels premium (quite heavy actually) but compact unlike most phablets nowadays.

As for ROMs, I'm sure there are plenty of customs, but one thing I love about MIUI is the Theme store. There are millions, they're all free, and they completely change the look of your phone, apps, menus, lock screens...there's more choice than any other phone store I would say.

Hope this helps,
Alfie.

Thanks Alfie.

Something Pixel buyers/owners should be aware of - Google pushed out an update in April that seems to be causing a fairly serious fingerprint sensor failure in these phones, there has been no fix issued and they haven't pulled the broken release despite the bug being high priority. Google support thread for broken sensor

musssy26th Aug

How much storage can you save on google cloud? Can you save 4K videos?

Unlimited and yes. Max resolution pics and videos with no loss in quality.

That's only for Pixel though. Other Android phones have to use their storage quota or store in poor resolution for free.

havoc66626th Aug

I'm waiting for £350.

That's not going to happen ! These things have been in short supply for ever so no one is going to have warehouses full of them.

Can I ask, if I buy a used Google pixel will the second owner also get the benefit of unlimited storage of full quality image uploads? Thanks....
