Currys are doing £200 off the pixelbook range. The lowest model is now £799. You can decide if that is a good price for a chromebook, but it’s cheaper than elsewhere.

UPDATE - stock is almost out on the lowest model from currys, however, others are still available. Google store still have the low end model in stock.

£800 for a Chromebook
Yeah, stick an apple logo on it and this would be hot! Now that's mental.
This notebook has just had the ability to run Linux application in integrated containers in the Chrome OS Dev channel. It's still a bit rough around the edges but is an indication of what is to come. The hardware is fantastic, and in due course when this has the fantastic stable and secure base of ChromeOS and the ability to run Linux applications as well, well it becomes pretty much the perfect laptop. I'm really tempted by this, it wouldn't need to get an awful lot cheaper for me to bite.
I think people on here forget that the "hot /cold" vote is for the deal, not whether or not you like the item or would buy the item.

It is a great price for that item.

It is hot.

£800 for a Chromebook

I second that, thats mental.
Yeah lovely device, about 100% too expensive for what it is.

Think long and hard before spending this much on ChromeOS. Unless you're absolutely sure it can do everything you need/want it to do then this will be a waste of money.
I love Chrome OS for what it does - but it does nothing that requires this spec. Madness to buy this.

Hardware is overkill for the software requirement but on the flip side, ChromeOS will run smoothly on it for years to come.
Still £100 to go. Will buy it at £699. Such nice reviews are good to see.
The inner grade 34 bureaucrat in me knows this is technically correct as a deal and to vote hot.....But it's still silly money for a chromebook.
I do love Chromebooks, but £800 is just absurd despite the hardware/design. Chromebook strengths are cheap and simple.
Brilliant price. Got mine at £910 and have loved every second of owning it.
Buy Asus C302ca instead. Cheaper and faster.

An M3 with 4GB RAM is quicker than an i5 with 8GB RAM?

Incidentally I'm sending one of those back due to noise issues, dropped WiFi and freezes.

Yes I agree, I wouldn't personally spend £800 on a Chromebook but it's a great deal if you are after one of these.
Voted hot.

Where does it say that? Vote hot or cold for whatever reason you want. It’s pretend numbers on the internet.

Depends on the software you need to be 'productive'. You get a proper keyboard, a full desktop browser and, depending on Chromebook model, Android app compatibility.

I'm really tempted by this. Will also get a further 10% off, so seems like a good deal. I'm a casual user, don't game, and don't do any video/photo editing etc, so I think this will work for me.

Can you install a "normal" linux distro on it?
I'm not one to part with my money easily, however was sucked in with £100 off and a free google home and free £60 in netflix vouchers at Christmas. I do not regret my decision one bit. My productivity compared to windows has been great. The hardware is a solid bit of kit, all apple fans can only compliment on how google have got every bit of the hardware spot on. The touchscreen is faultless. Google assistant, google play store apps, I am very happy and never thought I would say that after spending around £800 on the device.
This is hot. All the haters on here haven't got the first clue of the capabiliies of the device.

This has 95% of capabilities of surfacebook or MacBook at almost 50% the price. Yet cold.

Mental

My £300 Chromebook already runs Ubuntu, ChromeOS, and Android apps. Depending on your usage, that's vastly more capable than either of those for about 20% of the price.

I would say that's too cheap for running it non-amatuerishly though. It's not quite there.
Murtin5th May

Yes

You can also use GalliumOS, which runs Ubuntu natively instead of inside a container. It supports most Chromebooks, optimally. It's still my choice, for now.
Does this run the play store? Can I play my normal games like on my tablet? Thx for any help given.
Yes but will it run Football Manager?

In all seriousness, I do like what Google are doing and I think Chromebook like devices will be the future but until I can run full desktop packages, I'm looking at you Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop etc, then I'm afraid it's a swing and a miss for me personally so I'll have to stick with the Macbook.

Yeah, get an MBP with butterfly keyboard ... very cheap to replace broken keys.

why do you say that? I'd say this is a cold deal personally. doesn't matter if its the cheapest for this product if it is still overpriced.
anyone recommend a chromebook around 300 mark?

I've had my pixelbook since Tuesday. It's a phenomenal piece of kit.

If you want laptop-style rather than tablet-style, Acer Chromebook 14 is the "default recommendation" and at £250 it's a pretty decent price too. It's the one I have, build quality is fantastic, couldn't be happier for the money.
