3563898.jpgGoogle Play Points now live - introductory offer, earn 3 points for every £1 spent for your first 7 days

3563898.jpgGoogle Play Points is now live in the UK. As an introductory offer, you can earn 3 points per £1 (usually 1 point per £1) on your Google Play purchases

For example, a £5 purchase would usually get you 5 points, this will now be 15 points

This offer is valid for your first 7 days from joining Google Play Points.

Most Google Play purchases earn you Play Points, including in-app purchases, paid for apps, movies and TV purchases, books, even Stadia purchases.

You can use your Play Points to exchange for credit to spend in selected apps and games or Google Play credit

Aim for the next level from Bronze to Platinum to gain even more benefits. Your starting point is Bronze.

What are Google Play Points?
To show our appreciation, we created a new rewards program called Google Play Points that lets you earn points and rewards for the ways you already use Google Play. Over the past year, millions of people in Japan and South Korea have joined the program, and starting today, Google Play Points is launching elsewhere.

It’s free to join, and you can earn Play Points to use for special items and discounts in top games like Candy Crush Saga and Pokémon GO, or for Google Play Credit to use on movies, books, games, and apps.

With Google Play Points, you’ll earn points on everything you buy with Google Play, including in-app items, movies, books, subscriptions and more. You can also earn Play Points by downloading featured free apps and games. Weekly points events can boost your earning rate on movies, books, and select games.

Google Play Points has four levels, from Bronze to Platinum. Your level depends on how many points you’ve collected, and higher levels have perks like weekly prizes.

1 point = £1????

100 points = £1 play store credit. 100 points gets around £2 of in-game purchases depending in the app. Spending £1 on in-game purchases gets you around 1-3 points. Unless I've misunderstood, I can't see much to get excited about for your 'average spender'

600 points for free if you've bought a Pixel 5. Open Play store menu and go to play points and swipe to perks.

Just noticed it now thank you! Just to confirm there is only 3 games for me to download and earn points, 15 points total, but better than nothing.

Edit - I already have Disney+ so that will be why that isn't showing and other apps I probably already have as well, or selected accounts get selected apps or something. Still free points though thanks again

Is there any length of time you need to have them installed for? Do you need to actually access the apps or is it just a case of download and delete?

Download and delete. However as @Rob_1304 said in a previous comment, you can just tap install and then cancel, you still get the points

I never buy anything on Google. I just use Google rewards. Does this accumulate points if you only ever use Google credit?

I did a test purchase, as in I got to the checkout without actually tapping buy, selected my payment method as Google Play credit (all of which I have earned from Google Opinion Rewards) and it still showed that I would earn the points so I would assume so, yes.

When it comes to redemption, no, it's 1p per point so you need 100 pts for £1 credit.

You probably already either have the app or downloaded in the past
It's a shame you can't earn points on subscriptions

You can, it depends what subscription it is

Which subs earn? Google One renewed yesterday but I didn't get anything.

Also got YT Premium Family and Stadia but they're not due yet.

Not sure about those but Play Pass earns points (already existing subscriptions may not work so cancelling them and starting them again when they expire might work)

Also, Roblox works. Might be primarily third party apps that you can earn points with for subscriptions. I hope that helps

Now my maths isn't great but I worked out you need to spend at least £30 to get £1 off. No way would I spend that much on mobile games!
Man, unless you're an avid spender on in-app purchases, you'll have to go through alot just to get 150/200 points.

I mean I've joined it and done the free stuff for now...

Heat.
Do you still get play points if using a gift card?
Yeah great value spend £100 to get £1 coupon back, what amazing value.
ylssignal17/10/2020 14:24

Do you still get play points if using a gift card?

I would assume so, you still get Play for using Google Play credit to pay and a gift card gives you Google Play credit
I got to gold right away because I have a pixel 5. I claimed the free points. I don't see this being used by me any further than that.
Can anyone find any Google documentation saying that 100 points are worth £1 in Google play credit? Or that this will remain the same way?
Why do companies feel the need to gamify everything?
It won't be long before Google Opnions starts giving out "points" instead of store credit.

The reasons for them using points is simple;

1) It also allows Google fiscal control of the supply of money (e.g decrease availability or worth of points when times are bad)

2) Values of hundreds have a psychological effect of making people think they're worth a lot, when in fact, they're usually worth less than a minimum monetary value. What sounds better.- £10 spend gives you £0.10, or £10 gives you 30 points?

3) Legally they can offer competitions for points, which is skirting gambling laws because points have no actual monetary value (they can also withdraw the conversion to store credit if they feel like it, or close the scheme with no legal recourse)

None of the above is realistically of any benefit to customers, in fact it's anti-feature to giving real store credit, disguised as Google doing you a favour or "rewarding" you. It's a shame people can't see they're actually been done a disservice (Vs store credit).

I signed up because ultimately everybody else will but I'm under no illusion it's not a good deal so won't be going out of my way to make additional purchases.

No idea, sorry
Not a bad deal. But unless your a idiot your not going to be spending your wages on diamonds for poo games.
It's a 1% cashback scheme basically (temporarily 3%). Not worth collecting points by spending money on purpose, that's for sure.
