Wait, they haven't canned this service yet
Worst service of the lot by far, can't see this surviving another year if they don't radically change it

Unlike most commenters I actually have this. I needed a Chromecast ultra so i thought was worth a punt.

As a very casual gamer I think it's a great bit of kit. Games load quickly, no downloading updates (which is great when you don't play often), runs at 4k with zero noticeable lag for me. I've got a 57mb connection so it's not that fast.

I imagine the real benefit is playing it mobile but my work WiFi is terrible so I haven't really tried that yet

I think the people talking about lag haven't actually played it.

Nice! I paid full price (£120) and I've had my money's worth out of it, I like it a lot.

Wow. Good deal.
Various titles reduced today too, I've posted it but waiting for mods approval I think

Lag is its acillies heal, but I am sure Elon Musks satellites will solve that issue. Definitely a market in the future.

Won't be long before it joins Google glasses. Pay for a subscription and then pay for a game, great business model lol.
Dammit just bought this on ebay a couple days ago for the same price

Stop spouting rubbish.
Firstly, Google Glass is doing really well.
Secondly, you don't have to pay a subscription to purchase games. Stadia is free.

Google glass isn't doing well at all...

That's coming from a Google fanboy. I tried stadia... And it was OK.. but lord Jesus the pricing model they have is so bad!

Yes it is, it's used in industry.

What's wrong with the pricing model?

Free tier: buy games, play games
Pro tier: 4K streams, 2+ Pro games per month (6 games in June), better sales
The thing is, this is actually a superb idea, being able to run games in 4k dolby etc etc from just a small dongle is incredible, but the catalog of games, the structure and the timing is just poor. We are not quite ready just yet for the full streaming gaming service.

But it will certainly be there soon, consoles will be a thing of the past and I for one would be a supporter of that.

If stadia had the gamespass catalog and sub service that Xbox offers, could reach 120fps in 1440p on games with dolby Atmos and a party chat setup then I'd be all.in..

Unfortunately it's very underwhelming.

Pointless feeding the trolls and/or utter planks around here, they obviously don't have anything better to do, spouting the same crap in every thread...

Is it me or does those game prices look expensive..
But to be fair, you don't need invest into a console or gaming PC just need the Chromecast and a pad, so if only play a handful of games it's not too bad, just not for everyone.
Out of interest whats is the max refresh rate Stadia streaming can do on 4k?
if anyone doesn't want the controller DM me please.

And me

I just bought an ultra !
After you sign up for the one month free do you automatically get charged after or can you cancel the subscription? It’s not letting me read the T&C’s on my phone.
Chrome cast Ultra is useful for me, but I have no confidence in the service. Are the controllers useable outside of Stadia on Windows?
Got it, hated it, without uninterruptible light speed always perfect net connection, you will be frustrated to the point of banging your head against the wall. Avoid
Hahahahahaha

Thank you. Been watching this for a while to go down in price. £2 is an absolute steal.

Even better just realized the £2 came from my Google rewards so technically free

Chrome casts supports ethernet, lag free gaming via this method.

Also as long as you have strong WiFi signal, lag free mobile gaming.

People banging on about lag should invest in a decent mesh network. Routers from ISP are rubbish. Since I got an orbi my WiFi has been rock solid and playing Stadia also has a solid connection.
Ordered, thanks very much 😁😁

They're very transparent with the subscription, they email you to tell you when it's about to end and you can cancel within the app. It's kind of refreshing to be able to be able to cancel something so easily!

Thanks for the reply.
I'm a 'founder' (pre ordered) for this console and I was mighty disappointed.

Destiny 2.. looked blurry and I could feel the input lag.

I'm on a 500Mb line.

Looks and runs muuuuch better on the Xbox One X.

I know of no industry that still uses it. Happy to be proven wrong though.

In terms of the pricing model.. it's not free really.. it's £50-£60 per game! Some of the games are old and still demanding crazy prices! So the pricing model is mental! Just not justifiable!

I have tried decent routers to put in modem mode and all have been miserable but I'm talking about at least 2 years since I last used them. Things have changed since then but I have an orbi 3 satellite set up and has worked flawlessly. I used to use a powerline but the PC was really slow being that all the speed was dedicated to WiFi. Before my mesh I used to get about 95mb out of 200mb, now I get about 215mb from all devices. Even the PC is on WiFi now and gets full speed. I have thought about upgrading my orbi to an orbi 6 but I think a grand is too much atm
I’m seeing a lot of comment saying stadia is rubbish, but from my experience it has been perfect.
Google should have made stadia like Spotify - basically make every game available unrestricted to play at a low monthly price

Exactly - google should have made the pricing model like Spotify - so you can play any game whenever you want for a low monthly fee
This is Google so absolutely not worth investing in, they haven't found a good product yet they haven't tried to kill off at some point. I would go with Nvidia over google as at least Nvidia shows longevity they had geforce now in beta for years before launching it and will likely keep plugging away at it, it also has the benefit that you either play games on your own machine or games you already have licenses for on PC.

Of all the streaming options it is the biggest i.e. most users. The market for streaming games itself is absolutely tiny, at least for external streaming. Geforce though has the fact that a lot of people absolutely do already use the service for local game streaming, so the service is just an extension. And it does work as well as the rest and the hardware for it is a lot more compelling as an offer as the shield has a way better value add for everything not streaming games, which is why it is successful despite not all users using it for games.

My point though was that if you want to stream games, the lowest risk option is geforce now as games you buy on geforce now dedicated tend to be local ports not streaming, and not the rest are all using your licenses from other services i.e. your steam key so if you buy a game for use on geforce now even if you eventually stop you still have a PC copy to go off and use.
