Overview:
HTC is excited to have worked with Google in the development of the Nexus One. Through our collaborative efforts we have delivered the ground breaking Nexus One to market quickly, and accelerated the rate of design innovation across our full portfolio of Android phones.

Our industrial designers and engineers reached deep to come up with a design that would fully take advantage of all the latest advances that the Android platform has to offer. The Nexus One is sleek, light, and extremely thin without sacrificing on power or the vivid visual experience brought forth by the phones display.

The Nexus One features active noise suppression by Audience, a large high resolution 3.7-inch AMOLED display for a truly vivid visual experience, as well as a 1GHz Snapdragon processor for super fast response. It runs Android 2.1 with key enhancements such as the car dock mode to optimize the Google Maps Navigation experience while driving and the clock mode to offer a practical desk clock with quick access to the alarm clock, music player and multimedia gallery.

The Nexus One is available for purchase through a web store hosted by Google. The web store can be found at google.com/phone. Currently consumers in the US, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong can buy the Nexus One without service (meaning any GSM network SIM card can be inserted into the device), or purchase the phone with service from one of Google's operator partners.

24 month contract though

not many if any advantages over the htc desire, and that can be had for much cheaper plans

£35x24 = £840, so £840 is the true cost not £35.00

Great phone, prefer it to the Desire and I know because I have both, but agree that the plan cost doesnt justify the nicer extras over the Desire. If both were on the same tariffs though the Nexus would be the one IMO.

i have a nexus one... have since launch. best phone I've ever owned

I can echo this, I have had one since launch and using it on Vodafone UK, it is the best phone I've had by a mile.

Can't compete with N900 mate
Use N900 and you'll see it's the best phone you have over Neux One by miles.

The only thing can beat it atm is either the HTC HD2 or the upcoming iPhone HD

Thanks! Needed a laugh

There are no advantages over the Desire.....Desire wins hands-down!

While the Desire is better, it isn't really hands-down better as the only difference is that it has 64mb more ram - otherwise they're exactly the same.

I see the regular Barney is in full swing.
My mobile's better than yours etc.

No it isn't! :whistling:

I thought Vodafone had sold out of Nexus Ones?

Very little differences between the two, Nexus does have the benefit of a 2nd microphone which is used for noise cancelling. However, given that HTC have dragged their feet over 1.6 and now 2.x of Android on the Hero, I'm not convinced that HTC will be able to keep the Desire up to date in the same way. At least with the Nexus, you get the "pure" Android experience and updates will be made available much quicker.

Have you actually hold one in your hand? It feels slick.
No other phone can beat features on N900. Proper Flash? Proper multi-tasking? Hack the entire phone OS to your liking? Proper IM & SIP integrated into phonebook?

The needless noise cancellation on Nexus One doesn't count, it's useless.

Nexus has a quite a few positives over the Desire.

Needless noise cancellation works, call quality is better on the Nexus.
Updates will arrive faster.
Overall bulid quality & finish of the Nexus is MUCH better.
Nexus is easier to access bootloader, root etc with loads of Roms already available.
Battery life is better.

Wish people who dont know the facts would shutup.

And the N900 feels plasticky and cheap.

Have to agree about customisation capability of the Nexus. I modded my G1 a few months ago to Cyanogenmod and it's given it a new lease of life. They have just released a beta of Eclair for the G1 which looks very promising, but I will wait a few more days till they iron out a few more bugs.

I haven't seen a Nexus One in the flesh yet, but build quality is excellent according to the many people who bought one a few months ago.

one major advantage. its not locked down like desire. google allow it to be rooted.

desire has just been rooted, but difficult process and still has some read only blocks. HTC might further tighten up in future firmware release.

would you guys stop it already! just upgraded to desire..now i want nexus

Naa, it's more or less the same thing.

Personally, I think Desire is better for me but some will say Nexus one (for different good reasons too.)

But, again they're almost the same and therefore it really would be a waste of your money.

I think if you really want it, then go to one of the phone shops that have it and compare it to your Desire.

You can always then sell your Desire and get the Nexus one if you like it more.

I'm going to wait and see what Apple have to offer in the summer and compare it my Desire.

Personally if I was in the market for a phone, one with ]V2T would be on my list. As far as I can see only the Nexus can do it at the moment.

I want either a Nexus One or HTC Desire. I have an iPhone on o2 but it's rubbish I can't get on the net half the time.
My only reservation though - I don't mind the 500Mb usage limit as I think it's the unlimited thing which messes up the o2 network, but if you go over 500Mb is is really expensive and is there a way of monitoring how much you've used? And is 500Mb enough?

Voted hot!

Actually, HTC Desire can do it too! Some HTC Desires come with it already installed now, but as I had got my Desire close to the launch date I had to download it. But I have it now on my HTC Desire and it works beautifully!

Also I thought I'd just add that if anyone has seen the AMOLED screen on the HTC Desire will know how beautiful it is! Absolutely gorgeous! Waaayyy better than even the Iphone... and yes I have compared them.

You have got to be kidding, Symbian is a dying OS. Doesn't matter how good the phone is technically (which isn't great in this case) it just can't compete with Android or iPhone for that matter. In fact Blackberrys are better too.

I'm sure I read an article recently where Nokia are admitting they are far behind in the mobile market.

Very old thread, lol.
