Not really worth it for the cloud storage (takes too long to upload to their slow servers) but free camera replacement (2 per year) and 50% off accessories at GoPro.com. It’s worth doing the trial for the saving but not great otherwise imo.

I am thinking buy it, 14 day cooling off and free ao returns as well as price match promise means you can hopefully refund the difference or return should you find a better price.

In my opinion (everyone is different) I try to use official products where I can. I’ve used amazon copies but the plastic tends to be more brittle and the collection of broken bits I’ve got is exclusively unofficial bits. None of the official bits have broken.

There are some very very solid 3rd party accessories and mounts, but the usual ‘50 pieces for £20’ on amazon are pretty poor quality. You get what you pay for really. The 50% off official products does make them cheaper than anywhere else on the net.

I use gopros every day at work, but I’m in no way affiliated with them.

I’d get official but they’re sometimes 5/6 times more expensive than 3rd party

Yeah I agree, I have a mix of both official and unofficial. There is a difference but you should work to your budget. Sometimes it’s worth spending the extra, sometimes it’s not.

If you’re sticking your GoPro to something and think, if it falls off I’ll lose it forever, then I’d stick with official. If there’s not much chance of that then go with lower quality.

If I were to have a camera fall off something at work, and it was because I’d cheaped out on mounts, I’d be heavily criticised.

Yeah I think I’ll buy the official suction mount holder but stuff like handles and tripods I’ll get third party

Decent enough to get you started. Most of the official product are far superior in terms of quality but I got this to figure out what I’ll use most. The case is handy and the yellow floating handle was great on holiday using it in pools and water parks. I wouldn’t trust the selfie stick that comes with the kit. Mine wasn’t very stable and it uses a tripod mount which isn’t as secure as the GoPro style mounts.

Me too, halfords dropped to £252 over the weekend and I get double 10% discount, making it £204 but held off for below the £250 like this deal.
Of course, it went back up to £307 on Sunday!

Check out the free ones. iMovie is good if you are on Mac, very simple to use. As you get more into it, you can upgrade. TONS of YouTube tutorials and tips surrounding the GoPro. It’s a very popular format.

I just got a Hero 8 with the £100 off old camera trade-in...
Quality wise - of which I hear these are quite similar; it's good, but not on par with top end smart phones or the DJI Osmo Pocket - I find the compression artifacts that continually pop up all over the place a little distracting but for what it is, a sports cam - you can expect really good 4k results.

4k walk along clip... when you look around 3-5m ahead on the path... this was taken from HVEC source too (the best it will produce)

Timewarp does it more so, here's a test through all kinds of light conditions:
Not sure why anyone would go for this when you can trade up to a Hero 8 for £279 providing you have any old camera lying around that was more than £100 when new (or buy one of eBay for a tenner).

Worth the extra £30 for the better image stabilisation alone.

No interchangeable lens on the 8

There are filters available for it already. The fixed lens does worry me from a damage perspective but will accept the risk for the better stabilisation (which is awesome).

3rd Party accessories are great. I bought a £21 pound case of accessories (amazon) which contains every attachment accessory you would need. Small gorilla pod, Chest harness, flotation attachment, telescopic selfie stick, dashboard attachment, backpack clip (which is what I wanted) clips, screws, grips and other gizmos I have no idea how are used.
Not bad as first deal.
Can you plug this into a PC and use it for live video via USB 3.0?

Glad to help. I did the same. Have gone from a Hero 3 to a Hero 8 and am really pleased with it.

Didn’t take long to receive either, even with the trade-in.
