Hi there. Nice deal. I assume there is a newer version than this? Is this the 4 or 5?

Hero Session was the name for the one that came out with the Hero 5. Session 5 is the newer one.

This was actually called the Hero Session 4 at launch but was renamed Hero Session later on. There is also a Hero Session 5 which is £169.99 from Amazon.
Price gone up now.
For a moment I hoped this to be the session 5. Which would be amazing at this price.

It was the other way round. It launched as the Hero Session (friend got his at launch and that’s what the box says) and has been renamed to the Hero4 Session now.
I ordered the session 5 for £149.88 from the BT Shop as posted in a previous deal. Worth the extra with 4K recording, image stabilisation, voice control, etc.

Maybe you’re right. Probably beyond reasonable doubt and I don’t have enough interest to research what did happen - I’ve honestly Bever had a GoPro as I think they’re overpriced when better cameras are out there, but lots of my friends use them because they’re ‘GoPro’. We are in this funny age of tech where everything is ‘good enough’ and there’s little to differentiate between generations of a product (look at the iPhone, Galaxy S or Intel I CPUs). I also hate how manufacturers rename stuff just to add to the confusion - as you’ve pointed out.

To be fair to GoPro my session 5 is significantly better then my session 4 and puts my dusty sjcam to shame in ways that shouldn't be possible.
As far as I remember it was the session when it came out as it was the only one, then changed to session 4 when the session 5 came out. But I doubt anyone really cares
