They do price matching though!
Edit: As Oliver pointed out, JL only matched from "other high street competitors".

They had this at 219 albeit without the SD card a month or so ago and bought an 8 which I sent back. They don't seem to be listing it at the moment anyway.

Do you mind me asking why you sent it back? I can’t decided between the 7 and 8!
Probably because the price by what I have read isn't worth it. I did actually have an 8 and didn't use it. Sold it, bought another one on promo with JL and then realised I should probably wait until prices come down given I'm not out and about at the moment. I used the 7 last summer and it was great but I like my gadgets. I have an osmo action which is also great but given I have some JL credit I was hoping I could get it for even less.

But I would go with the 7 if you're a lightish user.
Even adding Unidays takes the price to £255. I have a 7 and, whilst tempted for the 8, concerned about how stable/reliable the attached mount adapter is... any 8 users able to comment?
this has poor audio, which isn't good for your videos

Owned two Hero 7 Black. Issues with both of them. One was repaired, the other I sent back. I now have the repaired one and two Osmo Action's. Whatever advantages there may be with the GoPro, no good if it's unreliable.

That is a good deal but the Charging kit is never worth £79.99. 2 batteries and a hub? For £80? That is a joke.

But the deal is a great one.

It worth noting a few things since GoPro offers are confusing as hell at the minute

- All GoPro models come with a free memory card as standard
- They are always running the £100 off a Hero 8 or Max in return for any digital camera in any condition so you can get a Max for £379 with a memory card or a Hero 8 for £279 with a memory card
- The Hero 8 is being offered with a 'value' bundle for £329. HERO8 Black, Shorty grip, Head Strap, a 32GB SD card and spare battery but you get a free memory card anyway so..it is really £50 for a shorty, strap and battery.

Their deals and offers are all over the place at the minute.

If you do get a Hero 7 then consider getting one of these

amazon.co.uk/gp/…c=1

It lets you add in hot shoe attachments such as mic, lights and it has a free ND filter. As a case it is solid. Or an alternative, doesn't have to be that one. Aluminium cases go for £10-£20 and let you mod it out.

Would you say this is a good time to get an upgrade from say a Hero3 + Black? Mainly used with a handle and Go mic for holidays etc?
That pic or is of the 8. However, it’s a great deal and as a new owner of the 8 I would recommend the 7 any day of the week over the 8. The 8 does a terrible job with filtering out the wind noise, it’s not compatible with GoPros Quik app (so you can’t use the overlays). It’s not well supported by GoPro, almost like they can’t be bothered with it.

It's never going to be amazing in this form factor anytime soon. I have been using these for 8 years for recording motorbike rides and track days and I found this to be the first GoPro where I can actually get decent audio for once, without using an external mic and keeping my setup simple.

I keep it in stereo mode (not auto/wind only) and use a "windslayer" (it's just foam, you can get about 10 chinese knockoffs for the price of an official one which is just the same). Makes a massive difference.

GoPro 5 black, now that had terrible audio! (worse than the 4 Silver)

Absolutely - the stabilisation is a game changer but get the 8. Check out the Abe Kislevetz YouTube channel for some great footage of the horizon levelling.

I was looking at the Hero 8. But went for the DJI Action instead. Got it new with the charging kit worth £79 for those extra batteries! £229 all in. Reviews seem pretty close tbh. I use the Mavic Air so thought I'd stick with DJI.
Not great in my opinion, and that's from someone who owns and uses one.

This will end up costing you more. Just to add your own mic will cost you £50 or more (the mic on this is really bad). Everything needs some attachment that costs way more.

The newer 8 actually amazingly doesn't require most of the things this does if you want to expand. A much better investment if you find it on offer. Even max priced its still better.

John Lewis had it at this price a couple of weeks ago, without the memory card but with a 2 year warranty, there was a similar thread about the GoPro offer then which I commented on.

What's the app and software like with the DJI? I've got an old Sony action cam and whilst it's ok, the app is woeful and a PITA. It's what tempts me with the GoPro as seems pretty slick.

I read up on freezing issues on the Hero 7 Black. Wow, it sounds like a pretty widescale issue. Even after firware v1.80 (and v1.90), the comments are just flooding in about having to pull batteries and random freezes all the time., while costumer support pushes the "buy an approved card / update firmware manually" mantra. I know, it's hard to tell about reliability of a product based on forums and such, but the volume of mentions definitely raise a red flag. Shame, I was ready to bite the bullet, but this sounds like lottery to me.
Can anyone recommend an external lapel fitting mic for this and any adaptors needed

I bought an 8 from JL last month, my first GoPro. I use it in my Genesis CDF a cyclo-cross type bike over the type of terrain no one would ride a such a bike over and it is rock solid. It's attached to an aluminium stem mount. Not a single bit of play in the built in mount. I seriously couldn't imagine a rougher environment for it other than being attached to a jack hammer.

The footage is gobsmackingly smooth and that's with out the boost mode. It's only a month and about 8 rides but impressed so far.
Torn between this and the dji osmo action anyone had experience of both? Thanks

Out of the 3 which is the best in terms of value for money, features and variety (and cost) of accessories? The stability of the 8 is awesome but they had to ruin it by removing the ability to swap out your lens if it gets scratched or cracked. As for the Osmo I’m not sure about whether it has a wider range of accessories like the 7 has.

Thanks for the info. What’s the limit for the giving a digital camera? As in how far back a model will they accept? And can it be from any manufacturer or does it have to be a GoPro?
