GoPro White only does 1080p video where as the Blacks do 4K.
I'd say find a second hand 5 black or the hero 2018 which is basically a 5 black. Both are better than the white if you look around.
Good cameras but its only 1080p 60fps with image stabilisation. It's their budget offering. You can get true 4k 60fps cameras with EIS for less than this nowadays. Also I've seen video compared and the 1080p 60fps image quality was beaten by cheaper cameras so not sure what image sensor and chipset but the spec states the sensor resolution is 10MP which I guess is mid-level although you can get sub £30 action cameras with 12MP or more sensors.

In my opinion if you want a gopro camera you go for the high end as their budget offerings are often very low spec and easily beaten by much cheaper products but I realise if you are used to how gopro's work and like their options then its still a good choice. The yi action camera for example that you sometimes see as cheap as £20 has an ambarella chipset and decent 16MP sony sensor or 14MP Panasonic sensor. That will deliver far superior stills and more vibrant detailed video at 1080p 60fps but has no image stabilization.

You can get true 4k 30fps cameras quite cheaply now. Here is one with an ambarella chipset and 8MP sony sensor for less than £20 and there is cashback too through quidco or topcashback. Again though no image stabilization so you'd have to use one of the higher resolution modes and use software on your pc to stabilize the video but I think the AEE has a 1440p mode ideal for stabilizing to 1080p. There is a custom firmware for the model which increases bitrates as long as you have a reasonable fast micro sd card.

I believe this also has a non removable battery.. which lasts for about an hour at max resolution, so best be near a power socket when you plan to use it! As said above... the black 8 is the only one really worth bothering about.
wtf why so cheap

Yes I've seen that review, his example seems to have a short battery life but that doesn't seem typical and he complains that there is no image stabilization which is fair enough but that is common to many action cameras and isn't a deal breaker depending on how you use it. He also states its 12MP but I believe the sensor is actually 8MP and in fact 8MP is one of the image resolutions which normally indicates the true resolution if its 8,12 and 16MP then 8 would likely be the true native resolution as most chinese action cameras provide a few higher interpolated resolutions.

It's worth bearing in mind that Amazon reviews prevent pricing information so that review may have been written when the camera was far more expensive. You can see here it has been sold for far more with positive reviews. That Amazon review may have been handy at suppressing the price by putting people off.

With the onbuy cashback the camera is less than £18 delivered and offers a true 4k 30fps resolution and lots of other resolutions too, it has wifi, bluetooth, touch screen, lots of options and a reasonable amount of accessories. It features a high quality Ambarella chipset and decent Sony sensor. No one is saying its the best ever but in many key areas it surpasses this Gopro Hero 7 white in performance. You can probably achieve a higher quality stabilized video by using software on a PC anyway along with other enhancements. It has a handy display off button to conserve battery life. I believe typically you will get about 1hr recording in 4k 30fps with the display, wifi and bluetooth off.
Took my Hero 5 snorkelling at the start of a 2 week holiday in Costa Rica in January. I used the official camera housing and official 3-way mount.

Water got into the battery compartment despite it being shut and it now doesn't work at all. I lost use of my GoPro at the start of my holiday!

Reason I mention this is that my camera is still in warranty and I thought it would be covered by warranty, after all they sell it as waterproof and "up for anything". How wrong I was! GoPro have completely swerved it and explained their warranty doesn't cover water damage which I was amazed at. They offered me 25% off a new GoPro.

So in short - don't expect these to be waterproof, and be aware that GoPro warranty doesn't cover water damage!

Take it up with your credit card company, clearly its sold as water proof and they are jointly liable for the sale. Remember though your warranty is always with the retailer for the first 1 or 2 years under UK law I think so any warranty offered by the manufacturer is secondary to the retailer in legal terms. You may need to show evidence that the waterproof case has failed. Perhaps put the empty case in closed position in your bath and see if it leaks water into the compartment. I realise this won't have much pressure but if it leaks in a bath then its definitely not fit for purpose.
Just being devil's advocate but how does a company like gopro know that the camera is at fault not the user? I'm not saying they're right but I can see why they didn't honour it.

I think that's probably why they don't cover water damage because they couldn't accurately make that determination. From that perspective I can understand why they don't cover it, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating for me when I know I used it properly

Clearly if someone has used the camera underwater when the battery compartment is wide open then that would be stupid and shouldn't be covered. In my example, it was closed and used properly but water still got in!

Now I know this, I'm thinking of getting a cheaper action cam because clearly the premium price on GoPro isn't worth much and it would be less costly if it gets water damaged!

Hopefully by raising this I can enlighten others who might have thought GoPro would cover water damage on their 'waterproof' camera. Or maybe I was just naive expecting that
