Had 4 sets of Govee LED strips and they've all had dead or faulty LEDs within a couple of months. They're cheap for a reason.

Strange. We've had several sets around the house for over a year and still as good now as when they were first used.

    "Millions of colours"??
    gavin1's avatar
    Sort of..

Each square is really three LED’s, one red, one green, one blue. The LED’s can be set to a brightness value usually 0 to 255, 0 being off, 255 full on. In theory that’s about 16 million colours, in practice our eyes may not be able to tell such small changes.

Mine lasted less than a year before the LEDs started failing.

Shame these are only Bluetooth controlled and not Wi-Fi enabled via Alexa etc.

but still a good price, heat added

Agreed but I'm planning to use a spare smart plug to get these into. That should sort out the Alexa control

hopefully not a stupid question, but assume I could just use the light strips themselves with other controllers

You need the polarity to be the same and I seem to remember govee strips not necessarily following the norm.

Can I cut these to match the size of my desk?
    gavin1's avatar
Yes There are specific points that let you do that.   You can also use connectors (not included) to rejoin these say to go behind a solid object.

Just be aware that according to the specs these have only 18 leds per metre so the individual led chips are spaced quite far apart. Other strips are available with around 30 leds per metre which will look much better, especially if you're mounting the strips where they will be seen. (And if you're doing that you will want to consider diffuser ducting which will look a million times better than just the bare strips on their own.)

I've yet to find strip lights that work with the Smart Life app, I dont want to install another app for 1 set of lights. If anyone knows lights that can connect to smart life let me know, thank you
    Robdataff's avatar
You could buy "dumb" lights and a standard intelligent plug that's compatible with smart life. You'll only get off/on, so depends on Your needs

I have this. It works well but the colour quality isn’t the best as it tends to make things look luminous. Might not be a problem to most but thought I’d mention it as I wanted it to act as a normal light which it doesn’t work well for.

Received these and can't save settings over power cycles from the mains which sucks

Got these back in November for £5.99. Well worth £10

These look really good, I'm just double-checking it does come with the controller as in the "what's in the box "section on Amazon it just says 10m strip. Confusingly enough people have posted that it is two x 10 m strips.

So does it come with everything that I need to have it working once I have plugged it in?
    gavin1's avatar
Yes.  Although the controller on the cable is pretty basic and most people use an app do you need a smartphone.

These are limited as they only work within Bluetooth e range
    gavin1's avatar
You need Bluetooth to set/change them, so to pick a colour or pattern, but once set you don’t need Bluetooth again until you want to change the settings.

They can be set to power on/off at preset times, and to a preset colour or mode even if the Bluetooth devices isn’t present.

There is also a few (very limited) controls on the lead, usually just on or off and brightness. (edited)

    Just bought it thanks

Wouldn't bother with these, bought the 5M version a few months back for a couple of quid. The bluetooth connection is terrible, the app is terrible and the LEDs are terrible.

    Everything about this is terrible.

I bought a similar strip from them on Black Friday deals - RGBIC version. That version comes with a basic controller, bt and Wi-Fi control - so far so good. I did not have them long enough to comment on longevity yet. They are Alexa and google assistant compatible, but not compatible with Apple home kit.

What is the length of the power cable cord please? I can't seem to find it anywhere
    Squiddley's avatar
In the Q&A on the Amazon listing it's said to be 1.5 metres
