I bought one of these when advertised at £29.99 a few months ago when seen on Hotukdeals.com. I've had a few people think that it was a great little gadget so went back to Maplins today and bought another as a Christmas present. I find it is really accurate and easy to use. Got to be good value at this price. Only while stocks last.

Your link appears to take me to AA rechargeable batteries!

]This one from Halfords for £39.99 has free updates for life so might be better in the long run. It seems to just get charged up via a USB port though so you would have to remember to keep charging it or get a 12v plug with a USB output to charge it in.

A speed camera thread without the 'i never drive above 28mph and anyone who does deserves to be tortured to death very slowly' brigade sticking their oars in???

Somethings wrong here.

Lol, very true! I don't speed like a nutter but I object to being done by a camera for doing 45 in a 40 dual carriage way with no pedestrians. There is no flexibility taking in to account the road conditions or the drivers ability.

I got done doing 36 in a 30 and had to attend a speed awareness course. One woman who was there claimed she got done doing 32mph! It really is getting silly. I don't condone speeding but feel the authorites are happy to nab people doing x% over the limit. When did you last see the cops out with a hand gun catching people speeding too fast down side streets. They don't bother as it is not an efficient way to catch speeders. Easier to just say we caught 100 doing 68mph on a 60mph road than catching one or 2 driving dangerously fast on a residential side street.

Rant off!

arent speed cameras on GPS satnavs anyway. I know they appear on my navigo. £20 more but you get a satnav instead of something that beeps at you.

This is NOT a speed camera detector. It is a GPS receiver with a database of known speed camera locations. It will also NOT inform you of mobile speed vans locations.

Pretty sure GPS maps can display mobile sites, but some of these devices receive updates from the users pressing a button to 'submit' a site for others to benefit from. Certainly useful for those folk who have satnav built in to their car or only want to know about mobile sites. I find that few built-in satnav devices from the manufacturers have camera databases - mine doesn't and I think some BMW systems are able to support them if you know what you are doing.

Here's the thing. Why not just drive within the speed limit? Then this device is redundant.

45 in a 40 is indefensible. As is 36 in a 30. The speed limit isn't a maximum target. It's just a maximum. I wish the police would catch more people that exceed it. I drive within the speed limit to and from work. I get passed by loads of people happily doing 55 or 60 in a 50.

You raise a brilliant point. People speed down my street in excess of 30 mph. It's a quiet residential street and it makes me cringe. Once upon a time I got speeding offences then I learned my lesson. No more. Speeding is a bad habit like smoking or excessive drinking.

Even if you do, that doesn't prepare you for the people in front of you slamming their brakes on when they see a 'safety' camera, does it?

None at all - but it prepares you for the erratic behaviour that you might encounter around a bend, doesn't it? It allows you to slow down carefully, so that drivers don't go into the back of you either. It might not be your fault, but nobody likes being driven into, do they?

There's not a single person on this forum who can say "I have never driven over the speed limit", because I guarantee you all have. Not necessarily deliberately, mind you, but over the speed limit nonetheless.

It's hilarious watching people preach about these things, yet nobody ever thinks to besmirch the violent computer games deals that make our kids murder each other.

matedodgy;6071834

Speeding is a bad habit like smoking or excessive drinking.

Categorically incorrect. The first point is illegal. The latter two are perfectly legal.

What's the problem. Speeding's great. I think nothing of doing 50 in a 30 limit and do it all the time. Never been stopped either. But then I'm a policeman!!

Now down to £14.99.... was gonna post it as a deal before i saw this thread.
