not really, kryptonite will refund the value of your bike if it gets stole whilst locked up using their D-locks. Only way to get though a decent D lock is by cutting it

Nothing snobbish about not wanting to give the thieves a freebie, and one that's gonna be at least 20 times the RRP value of this freebie.
The whole point of using 2 locks or a better lock is that the thieves think stuff it I'll just nick this other bike next to it locked up with gift box string rather than cut through this decent lock.

    Agree.
Got one today (was the last one) at my local Halfords.:)

Don't understand why everyones complaining. The cable is twice the thickness of the one I got from TKMaxx so I'm happy.:)

Yes there are more secure locks and yes there are D-locks (which I have also).
But these all are more heavy and D-locks are large, whereas with this lock I can just roll it up and put in my pocket.
Is handy if you're just going down to the local shops (on an old non-suspension mtb) and don't want to bring a big heavy lock with you.

"It's free, it must be a good deal" lol

Yes I am going to complain about a free lock! Not having a **** lock is better than having a **** lock - at least someone won't be lulled into a false sense of security. And rather than people think they are getting something that designed to stop a thief making away with their beloved bike, I'd rather they knew how useless this is. Seriously, pliers would get through this lock. DON'T BOTHER WITH IT - DESPITE IT BEING FREE!!!

I can't believe this has been promoted in the weekly email!! Please be careful when considering this lock peeps. I would especially hate the thought of some little kid getting his bike for Christmas and Mum and Dad using this lock as a means of keeping costs down.... Bike swiped...

If you have an old unattractive banger of a bike, then this might be an option. If you have a bike of any worth, or, you are in a high risk area then please be aware of how easy it is for thieves to get through this. Pliers will cut it open.

No one expects a bike lock to be theft proof. I just expect a lock to take longer than 5 seconds to cut off with a pair of Poundland pliers

Probably not the highest security, but good for a kids bike - cheers OP!

Of course this isn't the greatest lock but use it with the one you are using now and you have added an extra deterrant and more security to your bike for free.
  24. mutley1's avatar
picked up mine. it's just a simple lock but will be fine for short visits to the shops. cool.

I saw a program a while back about how secure bike locks were and NONE were. A pro bike thief actually carried a set of bolt cutters in his long jacket and removed all but the really expensive ones in seconds. The bigger locks were harder and took around 5 min and he said were the best option. Like the large shackle type locks

great lock to secure your quick realese seat to the bike whilst using a very good d lock for the bike whilst in a shop for a few minutes.

Don't use this on your bike, it will get stolen!
  29. deleted640357's avatar
not everyone needs a good lock, where i work, i'm in constant view of my bike and the only people who pass by are business men and women, who are extremely unlikely to think about stealing my bike, i'd even leave it out there with no lock since i can always see it. Would be perfect for me, but alas i already have a lock.

heat from me if the lock stops a wannabe thief walking off with your bike then what's bad about it? (_;)
  32. MattsBits's avatar
Voted cold. Cable locks are useless. They can be broken with your bare hands or simply cut off using a small hand tool. Light weight = Light security. Check out the videos on YouTube.

Shops should be ashamed of selling these. Halfords know they are rubbish which is why they can afford to give them away.

Unfortunately cable locks don't stop thieves. All the bikes getting stolen in my area are nearly always "secured" with cable locks. Once you strip off the plastic you are left with a much thinner stranded metal cable. You can use normal pliers to just snip through the strands. Cheap cable locks will often only take a few snips. If the thief has a cable cutting tool from B&Q it will be off faster than a piece of string.

They coat cable locks in chunky plastic to make them look much tougher than they actually are.

point taken about the reliability of this lock.

O' course although are called bike locks, these can be used for securing other stuff that might not be as expensive. Scumboes round my way will have off with your wheelie bin if not nailed down, one o' these does the job.

That being so a good deal, even for bike snobs who wear all the logoed gear but havenae "forked" out on a copy of the highway code.
